This makes me sad. I used to love my road trips down to the Hive usually on Sunday nights. Great rink. Atmosphere was electric when it was full in the ISL days

I only went there once, back in the old days, Doc Durdle was playing for them. Wasn't the ice blue ?

Alot of their team got picked up by Belfast and went on to win the league there. Ward, Matsos, Schulte, to name a few. Mark Cadotte also came to the UK and started in bracknell..they used to have a decent budget when John Nike bankrolled them

Makes you wonder if the Sheffield Arena will ever open again.

We've all been re-adapting to live, work and play in new ways.
As the course of the pandemic continues, some of the adaptations will survive the return to normal. We're being forced to re-assess why we do things that way, and whether any alternatives are available. In doing that we realise that it doesn't, necessarily, have to be that way.
Much of what I read about next season assumes that we're talking about returning to the previous set up - particularly regarding import quotas.
Obviously, I won't be holding my breath, but I can hope nevertheless, that they take this opportunity to consider having a go with a much lower (say halved) number of imports. Reduced recruitment and accommodation costs. Potentially higher quality individuals. More ice time for Brits. What's not to like? 'The standard' I hear you say. Well, either keep your money in your pocket (we can't fit you in to the arena anyway and don't need your money) or come down and give it a go for 1 season - after which we'll think again.

Two teams in particular have been following exactly the same recruitment policies as in the recent past.

It was called the EPL and that used to draw phone box sized crowds until it went bust. Crap rec quality and no one was interested. It would kill the league in weeks.

The problem with that is, where do the 70-80 Brits to fill that gap come from? Particularly for Belfast, Cardiff & the Scottish clubs, where there is a vast disparity in player quality compared to the players available in England. With so many of them within the English NIHL structure, where most generally play for teams they live near, and also have their own full-time jobs locally, who is going to foot the bill for their lost income and extra travel? How will the NIHL sides cope with all their best players hoovered up by the EIHL in one swoop? The Scottish teams can't all just raid the Solway Sharks, who of course have their own league to play in, and who's to say their players would be willing to go to those clubs anyway? SNL teams boast a few ex-EIHL Brits, again though same issue as with the NIHL players, they play SNL as they're done with pro hockey, and have full-time jobs as their income. Belfast it's even worse as they have next to no locals to call upon, and I doubt many of them would be up to NIHL2 standard going by their SNL performances, let alone any level higher. I want more Brits playing more minutes too, but it needs done gradually with a coordinated plan between leagues to manage the transition. Moving dozens up to the EIHL at the snap of a finger will just bust the leagues below, and probably the EIHL not too longer after.

You've knocked it on the head.. the British game is fragile at best .. covid will put this league back years if Eihl towers don't put into place solid plans should there be further interruption.
There is a distinct lack of homegrown quality.. money..sponsorship.. and so on

As for the quality of the Scottish SNL league, I watched a game a few months ago between Aberdeen Lynx and Belfast Giants and believe me it was absolutely crap compared to the EIHL standard. Trust me,an EIHL regular fan would not want to watch that rubbish every week !

As for the quality of the Scottish SNL league, I watched a game a few months ago between Aberdeen Lynx and Belfast Giants and believe me it was absolutely crap compared to the EIHL standard. Trust me,an EIHL regular fan would not want to watch that rubbish every week ! I do match day work for the Paisley Pirates, and see all their home games. Much like the EIHL, there are the haves and have nots. Sharks and Racers are in their own tier, Pirates, Wild, Lynx, Comets, Kestrels & Tigers are all competitive against one another, with Giants and Thunder fighting it out to avoid the wooden spoon. So you unfortunately seen one of the worst match-ups, as long as it doesn't involve Belfast or Kilmarnock, you'll usually get a decent enough match, though obviously it can't hold a candle to EIHL level. It is after-all virtually all amateur & unpaid players, some Sharks and Racers players excepted. Beyond the dozen or so guys that played pro or semi-pro previously, the rest just couldn't cope at EIHL level, and that's no disrespect at all to them. They're not paid, trained, prepared, equipped or expected to make such a massive leap in standard and it would take years (not to mention some money) to establish a system in Scotland that could do that.

Good luck to all those who are going to sit in a building which is essentially a virus incubator. Looking forward to hockey again in August 2021 - no interest in even thinking about before then - common sense over stupidity for Me.

Ooooh costly and a right old disaster that.......what would they do ?

(If the league does fall on hard times. Personally it wouldn't bother me I've lost interest in this league slowly over the years I have no financial interest within it and have other past times/hobbies/social interactions I can be doing.
