Doucet has said that he is building a team for next season as well as this, he wants to keep a core of players from the current squad, and build on that. That is a much more sensible approach than we have taken in the past, particularly last season. I think we are seeing the influence of the two years he spent in Cardiff in the type of player he is recruiting, not a bad template to follow. If we play to our strengths we already have a decent team with a shot at the playoffs, keep the core and add some top end offensive talent and we could be in the mix for all the trophies. I think Wasllace has, after a difficult start, done a great job, developing a style of play which suited to the players we have, and building a successful team doesn`t happen overnight - you could argue that Steeler`s performances this season show otherwise but with most of their squad at the veteran stage they are likely to be rebuilding next year. We had a similar situation when we won the league and I would much rather work to a coherent long term plan.

Forward wise there’s Herr and Hansen to build on,the rest either aren’t good enough or are too old. And that’s IF Herr stays. Not many if this years imports are building block material. Soz.

Wrong again Iginla ..
Deutsch (24) and Connelly (33) both have years in front of them!!
Fick is back next year on his 2nd year of Uni.
Matheson will return if wanted.. he could go onto the coaching side anyway.
There's only Lepine I probably wouldn't have back again
Herr and Hanson yup. If this new guy hits the ground running like Hanson did then he could be one too. Hes only 30.
Theres lot worse out there than Carr!
So theres potentially 6 players back for next year.. a nice core to build on!

Do you realise how much nonsense you talk? Only yesterday you touted Linglet as Cardiff's best player. He's 37. Two years older than any Panthers player so how can they be too old. Cardiff are widely regarded as the best team in the EIHL yet they consist of:- Linglet 37 Morrisonn 37 Pope 35 Myers 35 Marjamaki 35 Riley 34 Dixon 34 Bentivoglio 34 Richardson 33 McMonagle 32 Louis 32 Cardiff average age 30.46 the oldest in the league Panthers average age 28.10 How can they be too old?

His positional sense is not good and he often gets beaten high over his shoulder. He's an excellent shot stopper though and doesn't give up soft rebounds.

Panthers D is ok age wise this season, but you’re talking about plenty to build on as if it’s for years to come. They won’t be hanging around long, the only Dman who might is Deutcsh, but I bet there won’t be one other current Dman here beyond next season. Wait til Panthers lose a couple of games, you’ll be changing your mind again then and moaning why they’re off the pace and aren’t Panthers fit enough.

Your best bet for a title is to sign two fantastic players over 35 you aren’t banking on for more than two years, then an offensive core just over 30.

They weren’t 34 or 35 yers old back then were they, nope they were mostly in their prime at 28-31 years old. Now they’ve all got older together that’s why they aren’t finding it quite so easy now. But you never know, maybe they’ll keep them all to build on for next season !

So can we expect to see Cardiff and Sheffield to rebuild in the summer... No I'd expect them to retain some players as they will want continuity Iginla.. But I bet you can justify those two retaining some of their veteran players..but not Panthers !

But I bet you can justify those two retaining some of their veteran players..but not Panthers ! Of course they will retain some of their veterans just as Panthers will and should, but you seem to want to keep the whole of Panthers current roster (excluding Rheault) and including the whole ageing D because you want to build. It won’t happen, because some aren’t good enough and some will retire. I’m not saying I don’t like veteran players I do,because you certainly need at least two two or three, but you don’t retain three quarters of an ageing team to build on. Cardiff and Sheffield can’t keep their current rosters much longer they’re both too old to do that, they will both have to rebuild again very soon.

Really like the look of this guy. He has an excellent resumé and think he will bring similar hustle and bustle to that of Bolduc who I actually quite liked for his passion. Think he will add more offensively however. Put him on a line with Horvat and Bulmer and let them loose.....

Think Devils will make 6/7 changes next season including the 1 less import, think there will be at least 3 retirements and maybe 3 changes thru other reasons, It’s always good to see new faces.

The Devils have got to or age will catch up and the desire will wane as it probably already is. As Jordan Fox said when he left Panthers....”what else is there to win here”.

Reminds me of Kelsey Wilson, could be the spark they’ve been lacking.

I’d imagine mathieu to be more of a little gritty player who gets in people’s faces and winds them up
