I do really like this appointment but I am slightly concerned. Doucet spoke in the interview of player recruitment being 2nd priority until the coach is in place. Fair enough, but he's been doing the coach search for no more than a week.. what if it takes a month or more? There are players I and others hope to be re-signed, will we have to wait until we get a coach before anyone is re-signed/signed? Will that not potentially create a scenario where the guys we do want to re-sign have already committed elsewhere? I think Doucet will do a good job and I really hope he has some signing news for us soon. Not heard anything regarding any of the Brits besides Ollie and Tetlow, Perlini and Farmer should be under contract still but again.. another thing we are never told in plain English. priority doesn’t always mean that one won’t start till the other is finished. He’ll probably spend more time searching for our next coach but do both at the same time

Think it’s fair to say though, Iginla never comes to games and loves to pull the whole organisation apart. Whatever they do he moans at, so it’s not a cheap shot - more an observation than anything else Maybe he does. If what he says is wrong or stupid then he would be easy to beat in a discussion wouldn't he? Just thought it was playground stuff from Pies and for some reason expected better. Rob, the reason being is it’s the same thing every time from the same posters. People hate the organisation. Don’t go to games. Don’t like anything to do with the Panthers. And time and time again, we have to be subjected to the same old thing. Quite frankly, I haven’t ever stopped iginla. having an opinion. But the fact is, he hates it so much yet spends more time than most posters telling us this. I don’t need to beat anyone in any discussions. I don’t want to. But as with anything, I will call out people who claim not to care. Who claim that matches are fixed for money yet still want to spend their days telling us how rubbish things are. If it’s that bad, then why come on here and constantly tell us that you think the whole league and club are a fix. If you want to carry this on, my DMs are open.

On the topic of what he said, I think he raises a fair point of the coaching appointment being crucial before we judge whether this will pay off or not. But as a retort, I don't see how transparently stating that Doucet is accountable for recruitment and effectively hockey operations and strategy can be construed as a bad thing or retaining the same exactly the same ethos. To retain the same ethos would have been to change nothing at all. The waters are still murky regarding how the Panthers organisation runs, but this appointment is a little stream of relatively clear waters to the mix.

Very childish post from anyone. Especially from a Mod. You can see where pies is coming from Rob? When I see the Panthers turn a real corner then I may watch them again. But I’ve heard it all far too many times before to get even remotely excited about a director of hockey with few credentials and probably little power. Until then I shall just watch from afar and smile !

I don't believe it would be that literate. Getting a new coach in place will be the main priority as it should be but doesn't/shouldn't mean that nothing will be done on the player front until the coach is in place. Now that Doucet is DOH and he is in charge of recruitment the coach and player situations are no longer mutually exclusive

While it looks a positive move on paper I'm inclined to wait and see what, if anything improves at the Panthers. Years of disappointment after multiple "big anouncements" means I won't put the bunting up just yet, and does anyone really see Moran giving up a single iota of power?

I've never been massively comfortable with the whole idea of a player-coach, but haven't people constantly been holding up Belfast and Cardiff as being models for a successful team? And didn't both Keele and Lord start out as player-coach?
Maybe Stewart or Henderson could do the same?

Callum doing the social media, etc... we hear a lot less from GM than we used to, and exposure is power. Of course, it could be claimed (with zero evidence) that GM still controls absolutely everything and everyone else is just a puppet... but that's going a little too far into tinfoil hat territory for me.

I'm I pleased at the apparent change of structure - hell yes!
Will it really make any difference to next seasons results / performance - no-one knows?
Has it made up for the utterly deflated feeling I had last season (and previous seasons) - hell no!
Has it made me want to renew my season ticket - hell no!

Stewey has told them he'll stay if Henderson comes, we shall wait and see and he's off home next week and if there's no contract to sign he ain't coming back.

So let’s assume Doucet does all the recruiting and the new coach does all the coaching, but we end up with another poor season. Who gets the blame or the bullet....Doucet or the coach ?

Good point, but shouldn’t we wait to see who the coach is and how the roster shapes up before we follow the normal pessimistic track or alternatively invest in a County season ticket

It seems to me to be an encouraging move, it has to be beneficial to separate the commercial/media activities from the on ice and Doucet`s commitment to "sexy Neilson hockey" is also welcome as the past three seasons, European games excepted, have been pretty dreary. Slightly concerned by the mention of a "hockey board" as that sounds like jobs for the boys and successful sports teams are rarely run by committees. The relationship between Doucet and the coach will obviously be crucial and a player/coach appointment has to be a possibility, particularly in view of Doucet`s relative youthfulness. Anyway, I think a degree of cautious optimism is justified. On that note, as this is a Fans Forum, does Iginla actually meet the definition of a fan? The term generally indicates someone who actually supports the team, rather than one who repeatedly tells us that he no longer attends, currently has no intention of doing so, and constantly carps about the team/coaching staff/ management/ownership, in fact pretty much every aspect of the organization apart from the 50/50 ticket sellers.

Doucet recruits the coach and the team, yep fine.....then what does he do between September and April ? What’s he going to have cost too as a total package....£50k ? Thats say five players you could offer an extra £10k to,which is big money in the EIHL and ideally get better quality. I’d rather we just added that extra money into upping the player budget than have a director of hockey.

I would prefer to spend on the on ice product too, but if it takes the club forward and reduces GM influence then hopefully in the long run it will be money well spent
I think this move maybe now makes the recruitment of a coach with experience of our league all the more important
I thought Chernoclue was out of his depth here, but again he seems to be succeeding again in DEL 2

Also the constant evaluation of the team and coach will be his job as well as making any changes if needed. They will likely also save money on the coach as they’ll have less responsibilities

Say Doucet was being paid £50k for the season work that money is made in one to two match nights ticket sales (opponents depending) and I’m sure if Gui identifies certain players who want a little extra I’m sure mr Black will spend the money off the back of last seasons failure and the backlash from the fans. He knows things need to change and this is the first step to doing so. Let’s see if Gui can build this fast paced high energy goal scoring team.

It’s got a chance to work IF Doucet gets free reign to do his job. The vital thing is whether he alone chooses the coach, gets the right man and Moran and Black leave him and the coach to everything on ice. If not it’s got the potential to end in finger pointing. I hope he gets the right coach, not just a mate of his and it works out. We shall see.

Why is he retiring at 32? Injuries? PPG last season, better than any of our rabble except Guptill.
Perhaps he's going to recruit the Coach and the team and when he's done all that strap the skates on & be our leading scorer too!

I think at the max he will be injury cover, I think he wants to get into the off ice side of hockey.
