A lot of people on social media seemed to be getting carried away regarding our pre season compared to theirs. But the level of opposition were totally different. Top SHL opposition compared to a average del team , average del 2 team a Norwegian and Hungarian. I've been impressed with our performances but I'm not writing Sheffield off. Hold your horses!! Lekslands And Timra ain't top SEL teams . Lekslands came 2nd in the 2nd tier last year and Timra won it and are rebuilding after almost going bankrupt. Panthers arranged games against teams of similar ability so they d score goals and build confidence amongst their forwards hense the 29 goals . Steelers top forwards are yet to get off the mark yet. They are going into the regular season still to score and the longer it goes on the pressure will build . Guptil has scored 5 already. Every bit of confidence helps !

I am fed up of being cannon fodder for the Sheffield Steelers it is about time we had a very good season against them just to remind them we are still here Does anyone have the stats on this over the past few seasons? I’m inclined to agree with Lawman, certainly the last 2 years felt like it, but I’d be intrigued to see just how good/bad/indifferent our form and results have been against Sheffield. If no one does have the stats I’ll try and have a look into it tomorrow evening.

I think even a top Swedish second tier team is a lot better than a bottom half del 2 team don't you? We narrowly beat fischtown who were mid table in the del which is obviously good. I'm not criticising our team in the slightest as my post said, I've been impressed. But all's I have seen on social media is people expecting us to paste them next week.

I've seen a lot on Twitter expecting it. I think people can get a little carried away at times, although I am looking forward to this meeting with them more than I did at any point in the last 2 seasons

Have we really played the Steelers 48 times in 4 seasons, that’s bloody mad. 😳 Not a very good record is it 29 losses and only 19 wins.
No wonder we didn’t compete for the league title !

Have we really played the Steelers 48 times in 4 seasons, that’s bloody mad. 😳 Agreed. It's partly due to always being in the same challenge cup group and then two-leg meetings in challenge cup or play-offs... but yes, it gets a bit wearing after a while. That's averaging 12 meetings per season. Which is utterly ridiculous - with any team, much less that lot! That's putting it mildly... For whatever reason(s) - and I'm betting there are several, and that none of us really know most or all of them - they just seem to have had our number lately. Time for a change, methinks!

I think we get dazzled by the orange shirts when we play them - either that or we keep mistaking them for traffic cones and stop when we get near them

Ever since we won the league. Never has a club sat so long on it’s laurels.

It’s only Tuesday night and it’s only a challenge cup game but I’m getting that nervous, horrible sick feeling about the game. I want us to set the standard for the season with a win. But if there’s any team that finds a way to beat us, it’s them.
Just trying to tell myself it’s just a game but it really isn’t anymore. This is a new era for us and whatever’s happened the past 10 years means nothing. Our coach is undefeated against them and I hope I’m saying that come 10pm Saturday night.

Ever since we won the league. Never has a club sat so long on it’s laurels. I often thought that once the club had finally gotten over the hump of winning a title, there would be more, not season after season, but they’d continue to win and/or at least challenge...

Hope we run up a score on them!! Give them hell all night, hit after hit after hit. In their faces every shift! Send a message early let them know every game they’re going to get bullied for 60 minutes

I’ve always found it odd that guys that spend hours chatting in cyber space don’t share a pre or post game beer and chew the fat a couple of times a year about a mutually interesting subject. Start of the season and pre Christmas for example. Do it!

Funnily enough as I am sure most of us do chewed the fat with one of my oldest friends who started work around the same time as me and was one of the people who introduced me to hockey back in the distant past...but always willing to talk to people as long as they aren't in orange, I too think its a terrible colour to make clothes out of...

I’m not bothered about it really. I have a very lovely friend who supports the orange lot. In the days of the bench clearance and even when Matulik pummelled Adey I really didn’t like the team but fans are fans. Some are nice and some are not. Still hope we beat them but more importantly that we do it over a league season. The team looks balanced but I can’t help thinking that if we don’t carry a spare forward we will regret it at some point and drop points when injuries kick in. That said I’d rather we sign a top end man say October/ November than a low end ECHLer now.

This is based on nothing but my own wandering thoughts, but Mathieu Gagnon hasn't yet signed anywhere and was pictured skating with Gui Lepine this summer. I wonder if we might be in touch with him as the season goes on. Popular with the fans, seemed to enjoy his time here, could play on D or as a 4th line forward. Wouldn't be the worst option.

Going with a feisty high scoring game in this one.
both teams will want to start the season strong, and show the fans what they can do. Added into that the atmosphere and a few chippy players and we potentially have a good game on our hands.
We've had a good pre-season, Sheffield have had a tough and injury ridden pre-season, could go either way, but hoping for the rivalry to be re-ignited if nothing else
5-4 Panthers

I see the assumed sell out is not there as yet.Regardless of what the club said. The site still having a problem with their 'spiel' also. www.panthers.co.uk/....(now changed I see)... However I have trouble navigating and trying to find updated material on other sites far worse. Coventry/Glasgow/Shuf. for starters, Belfast/MK and Cardiff are so slow to update. At least we show a fixtures list well.
