O.K. I am greedy - like any fan I am glad we have achieved the objective of avoiding relegation, and we have achieved more than many expected - but I still want to win this afternoon In all honesty, I'm torn between two camps. On the one hand... win, get promotion, go and cheer on the GB team at the top level... fantastic, a great achievement and great experience. On the other hand... the most likely scenario would be GB getting blitzed in every game and being sent straight back down again, humiliated. That's not a criticism of the team - but are we really of the calibre to face Canada, Russia, Finland etc? Even worse is one possible scenario that has been talked about - we get relegated, some of the more senior players (Shields?) retire and a very young (and possibly demoralised) team do poorly at this level in 2020 and plummet back down to 1B. Yes, that's a worst-case scenario - but it cannot be discounted. No easy answers...

We can’t go into this thinking “We don’t want to go up because we might get hammered” we’ve got to go into it thinking “We’re here because we deserve to be here” yes there’s always risks but if we don’t get promoted now, who’s to say next year we don’t come back demoralised and get relegated. So let’s go to the top and enjoy it!

Like I said... I'm torn between the two possibility sets.

Afraid of getting annialated is the wrong attitude to take . Yes we probably will but these players will become Better ones playing against them . It will be good experience for the likes of Kirk especially. So we must go hell for leather and secure those 2 points tonight.

No competition shaggy. We go and play Canada. The experience and the event of it all would be worthwhile.
Thanks for nothing by the way Poland. Utterly hopeless today.

Was Dan Green in nets for Poland - think he would want all of the goals back - also very poor discipline from the Poles - down to us tonight and will not bet on the outcome - if we play like we have so far this week then anything is possible - just keep out of the box !!!!!!

Amazing to have us going into the last couple of games of 15 and nobody has been promoted yet. I believe five teams are still potentially in the running too. Amazing parity.

Disappointing, but at least we know what we need to do tonight now. Same score they did us by as well Agree about promotion, would be magnificent to be back among the very best after so many years (25?).

KAZ beating POL settles a lot of it for us... basically, if GB get even one point tonight, we get gold. So just taking it to OT will be enough for promotion... if HUN beat us in regulation, we stay in 1A.

Does the Slovenia v Italy game tomorrow matter to us? We beat both. All we hope is that Poland do us a favour and at least take the Kazakhs to OT. It might do as one of them can end up tied with us on 9. If you have say 4 teams on the same number of points you take the games between all of those 4 and make a mini league table, and that's the final order. So just because we beat them, they may have better results against the other teams who end up tied. We might come out of that well, or not (not worked out the permutations). Ideally we'll get any Poland win in game 1 to knock Kazakhstan out. Then game 2 go to overtime to knock both of them out. That'd leave us promoted and then get anything from Hungary to win it. Edit: As I have too much time on my hands... Think it'd be something like this (because Hungary would have to beat us in reg, I've put this as 1-0) - Option 1: KAZ win, ITA win, HUN win = GBR/HUN/ITA/KAZ on 9 points HUN 0-3 KAZ ITA 2-3 HUN KAZ 6-1 GBR ITA 3-0 KAZ ITA 3-4 GBR HUN 1-0 GBR 1st: KAZ, 2nd: HUN, 3rd: GBR, 4th: ITA Option 2: KAZ win, SLO win, HUN win = GBR/HUN/SLO/KAZ on 9 points GBR 3-1 SLO HUN 0-3 KAZ KAZ 6-1 GBR SLO 4-1 HUN KAZ 3-5 SLO HUN 1-0 GBR 1st: SLO, 2nd: KAZ, 3rd: HUN, 4th: GBR Option 3: KAZ don't win, ITA win, HUN win = GBR/HUN/ITA on 9 points ITA 2-3 HUN ITA 3-4 GBR HUN 1-0 GBR 1st: HUN, 2nd: GBR, 3rd: ITA Option 4: KAZ don't win, SLO win, HUN win = GBR/HUN/SLO on 9 points GBR 3-1 SLO SLO 4-1 HUN HUN 1-0 GBR Decided on goal difference: 1st: SLO +3 GD, 2nd: GBR: +1 GD, 3rd: HUN -2 GD > Clearly this one depends entirely on our score with Hungary, if they beat us well enough we'd be 3rd. So to me, an Italy win looks preferable, if either side have to win in reg. Slovenia have done better against the sides we're likely to be tied with. Edit 2: There's an option 5 too KAZ win, ITA and SLO both don't win in reg, HUN win = GBR/HUN/KAZ on 9 points HUN 0-3 KAZ KAZ 6-1 GBR HUN 1-0 GBR 1st: KAZ, 2nd: HUN, 3rd: GBR. So, if KAZ win in game one then we're going to need something from the final game (OTL at worst), a reg defeat and we're not going up. If KAZ don't win, then we want ITA to beat SLO in reg or an OT result either way, which will mean we'll at least be promoted whatever happens in our game. (Or I've got it wrong and none of that will happen ) Great effort , saved me time too...after the first game today seems we need to knuckle down to a regulation win or drawn game ..,,I fear a 4 team 9 point finish and us losing out after all this. Can someone get in touch with Pantgers new coach and get some good info on Hungary!

Was that a strange decision by Slovenia to pull the keeper when you have a powerplay?

So. Again im not certain on this.
Hungary need a near miracle and are all but out of it. If they win in regulation making 4 teams on 9 points. They cannot finish above Kaz or Italy without winning by 8 or 9 goals??

They'd be tied with us, Kazakhstan and Italy, but they'd have enough points from the head to heads (6) to finish above us and Italy (3 points each). They won't win it, but they'd go up.

I believe just after a powerplay also. Slovenia really trying hard for it which is comendable. But it went the other way, Italy so lucky there. Was hoping a draw and OT needed so we at least hit 3rd in table...Oh well, 1pt from tonight please.

Basically, If i'm correct a) We win/OT win/OT loss - we are Gold medalists with Kazakhstan go second b) We lose and Kazackhstan take gold and Hungary take second.
No hang on I've forgotten Italy here...lol
So between the 4 teams on 9 points Hungary and Kaz have two wins Italy and GB only one. Like Yotes said...So I'm right...yes???
**************
Hungary have to win, we have to get regulation draw to win the group.
