So Corey has said that he is looking at our Brits from last year as well as some of the imports!!
Forgive me, but I really don't want to see any of the imports, apart from those who have been signed up for next season again. Most were utter garbage and the team was mid table. Is he seriously looking at some of these players?
The guy really needs to go if he's only going to recycle garbage from last year.

Next season will be an even bigger disaster unless big changes are made. Does he really want to finish bottom of our conference?

That comment was very surprising being as NB at the Q&A stated that all the Brits were signed into multi year deals along with Spang who we didn't know about , Brown on the uni deal and McGrattan on a supposedly 2 yr deal.

Yes but Black suggested 2x6 too......he's a liar ! Don't forget this is the guy who didn't even know who Brock Wilson was !! 🙄

According to Elite Prospects, we have two players contracted for next season, Jeff Brown and Dan Spang.
We have apparently released Chris Lawrence, Brad Moran (retired), Miika Wiikman and Alex Nikiforuk. I understand that Geoff Waugh is likely retired, seeing as he has his Degree from the Uni.
It is a worry, that the likes of Carter and Schultz have not been shown the door?? What the hell is Corey playing at??
He must be barking mad if he is considering bringing back the likes of Carter and Schultz.

And probably worried what new players he can get hold of,so keeping a few up his sleeve in case he needs to re sign them to fill the roster.

It'll never happen but I'd love the club to throw money at Bowns. Then bring in a decent import to back him up and you've got an awesome foundation for the team.

People love making a mountain out of a molehill don't they!
I bet the only ones being considered are MacMillan/Lindhagen & Williams.
But because people like witch hunts I guess it's accustomry to believe he'll be bringing back the worst of the bunch.

We have Brown who fits that role. And as for mountains out of molehill, some may be happy that the richest club in the country is happy finishing between 4th and 5th in the league, but I think it is totally unacceptable and the club should have far more ambition.

Considering a) this club has a reputation for signing crap squads, b) the coach has a reputation for signing crap squads and c) the coach said this, this does not count as "mountains out of a molehill". Take off your rose-tinted specs for a moment.

In Corey's defence (slightly), when he puts his mind to it and actually does some research before signing someone, he can get it perfect (see the reaction given when we signed guys like Francis, Lepine, Mosey, Beckett, etc). However I just think Corey is plain lazy most the time. Does little research other than 37 Hockey throw a few CVs at him and he takes his pick. Occasionally too he might get an ex or current player recommend someone, but Neilson has his favourites who aren't always the best (see Chris Lawrence). The coaching and tactics are fast drawing parallels to the GMs management and marketing styles - out dated and predictable.

Lepine fell into his lap. He was signed on at Hull before they went bust and we snapped him up from there. If hed researched him that much hed have signed him in the first place

Enlighten me on how Brown played the same role as MacMillan? Considering MacMillan spent the entire season playing out of position, he deserves a bit of credit. He was considered the 'under appreciated workhorse' by many in the 2015-16 season. Bringing back perhaps 2 more, on top of the other 2, out of a roster which carried 17 imports at the end of the season isn't substantial enough to cost us in the future. Spang and Brown are the current 2, Spang is good on his day. Brown showed passion and did better than most expected points wise. When you look at Brown and Spang in comparison to guys we've had in previous years, guys other teams have.. neither are anything seriously special. They just shone brightly due to the faecal matter around them. I included the '/' between MacMillan and Lindhagen considering they can both play D and F, which is always going to be a bonus. It doesn't mean I want either of them back, but they have the added value of their ability to play in both positions. Lindhagen wasn't too bad, wasn't half as bad as the rest but I think he'll return to Sweden, doesn't mean Corey won't try to bring him back, but in trying, it doesn't mean he will be coming back. It is unacceptable to be consistently finishing below where we should be, and departing the title race before Christmas but essentially saying if we bring MacMillan back would cost us the entirety of next season is ridiculous. We all saw how Schmidt excelled in his 2nd season with us. He had better around him and he showed his true colours. We saw the true colours of MacMillan in his first season, when he also had decent quality around him. Sure, he wasn't anything special this season but look at the pure garbage he had around him. We have a minimum of 12 imports to sign, a max of 2 of those may be returnee's.. and we already know it won't be Lawrence, very unlikely to be Carter and unlikely to be anyone besides MacMillan/Lindhagen/McGrattan/Williams... could even be Pacl for all we know! Corey knows he royally F'd last season up. Black is applying the pressure and ensuring sufficient changes are made. Last season was a disaster on and off the ice, if the allegation regarding Strachan not coaching/training mid-week and only being present in a working capacity for games is true, there's where the first change needs to be made. All coaches have assistants, they need them. If the club wants to show the ambition everyone wants them too, then they've got to start with strengthening the coaching side of things.

Actually MacMillan didn't play the entire season on D, he was moved due to the injuries we had. He is an average player at best and we should aiming far higher. If they do bring him back it would be nothing short of scandalous.

It's not a rumour about Strachs not taking training it's true. But any assistant to Neilson is pretty much a waste of time anyway because he's too arrogant to listen to others opinion. Strachs needs to be back though,he's valuable.
Macmillan should not be back, bang average and another pisss artist just like Lawrence and Neilson !
The only two others remaining that I would even remotely consider bringing back would be Lindhagen and Sertich, but I don't think I'd give either a great deal of thought time !

I can see panthers finishing about 7th/8th next year this is speculation but the job advertisements on the new elite prospects page show that we are offering a lot more to players than Belfast are, Belfast always have a good squad so it's not as if we aren't offering the money, it'sjust that it's spent on the wrong players or they don't seem to suit the coaches systems

They can't all have family connections with Northern Ireland ! It's more likely, that the word on player street back in Canada and the USA is "don't go to Nottingham" because of certain people there. What other explanation is there ? It's not as if Belfast is a fantastically attractive city with great weather is it !

What other explanation is there ? It's not as if Belfast is a fantastically attractive city with great weather is it ! Just because we have that advert this year doesn't mean we had it last year and maybe we just offered these contracts to the wrong players. We know that happened with Carter because of Lawrence and with Brown too although with him we actually stumbled across a good player. I bet we did spend more than Belfast last season but the crucial difference was that we recruited poorly and were badly coached and Belfast spent their money much better. Spending more money doesn't guarantee success but spending it well does. I don't think that the panthers and the EIHL make enough chatter over in a America/Canada for us to have such a reputation over there, and although many may well have not like association with Moran/Neilson there's also plenty enough who do think of the Panthers fondly to recommend us to players, notably Jordan Fox, Brock Wilson and David Ling and McGrattan also set things in motion for Williams to come to us.

What other explanation is there ? It's not as if Belfast is a fantastically attractive city with great weather is it ! Inspite of what the club may say we are now seen as the 3rd choice club to come to in the EIhl for the higher end players Behind Belfast- lovely though it is is a city who still has occasional bomb threats and Sheffield inspite of their history of many previous financial problems This is because of the culture within the Panthers which the management allow to thrive. Belfast and Sheffield players are left in no doubt their only priority is to play and win hockey games. Panthers allow or turn a blind eye to the players amongst the squad who treat the season as one long club 18-30 holiday (that may be extreme comparison but you get the point I'm trying to make) The top end players that the league can attract don't want to be associated with that sort of culture because they take their profession seriously and because it may hinder their chances of getting backer to a higher quality league. Add in GM the GM to that mix ain't going to help matters either.
