He is often injured hence prone to injury. Pretty simple really. Not really all that simple... neither the definition (covered above) nor all the subtext surrounding it. That being - it appears to be the view of some that if a player is "injury prone" (however that may be defined) then the club should get rid of him. I happen to agree with this:- I'd just be cautious about what you mean by dropping injured players. If for instance, I was was offered a contract by a club that dumps injured players with 2 weeks notice for instance I'd probably steer clear and find anything else. The club have to think in the short, medium AND long term... and long term, binning off players like that could severely impact future recruiting. We have to remember... these guys aren't just statistics on legs, they're not just points-producing machines... they're real people with real lives, many with families, and whilst a career in hockey is never going to be the most stable or secure around, they still need to minimise the employment risks. That doesn't mean to say that we should never consider releasing a player... but it's got to be close to a 'last resort' kind of thing. And this season has already shown how generating goodwill amongst players can benefit the club... first, Kalus recommends Pacl based on his own experience here, and then comes back himself. Wouldn't happen if "you're fired!" was a common phrase around here... I'm good at my job. I don't care if it's arrogant but I really am but if i was frequently sidelined for different reasons it wouldn't matter if the reasons were different I'm a liability and an expensive one at that. I had the misfortune to go through such a period and my job was a t risk and I fully understood. People rely on me and when I'm absent it puts my team doing an important job on the back foot. It's a very similar situation and it has to be looked at practically if we are to be succesful. We can't carry players in the hope they play a third of the season at full pelt. He's an awesome player when fit and a pretty nice guy but in with no IR system or minor league (we are minor ourselves to be fair) call up system that weights in our favour we have to act on what is right now as yeah long term thinking is handy but that long term situation is untenable any way if you drop points early. We are lucky at the minute as we are playing well, Kalus was a good pick up and I hope it continues but we've seen before how much injuries cost us as we hit the crux of the season. As for players looking on us poorly because we release an injured player I don't think is an issue as we don't do it often and as a player with a passion to win I'm sure they can see the reasons for and why it might happen. These guys know they haven't got a career for life and every contract is a risk.

He's had one freak play that would set any player out, unlucky. He's now got an unrelated injury, it happens. His other injuries were a result of his knee still setting him back. If two unrelated injuries and a tweek make him injury prone then i see pigs flying and cthulhu reigning over the world. He isn't injury prone, a proness to injury would be him being out every other week after taking bumps. I think some people forget that most of his time off was because of one injury, there are more details to being injury prone than just "oh he's out injured again". Releasing him would be ridiculous, your jobs and being employed within professional sports are worlds apart and can't be compared to one another.

I work within a high performing team that needs every team member to be on their best performance to ensure best possible outcomes with high stakes risk occurring every time a mistake is made. It's not that different. The psychology is the same. Team work is the same in any arena.

Are you sure you have the time to spare to post here from your high perfoming high stakes job? It sounds quite demanding.

Alright, let's stay on target please.
I don't really see the point in releasing him, agree with Kiev that it would paint us in a bad light when he was injured doing a job for us. Take it into consideration when thinking about re-signing in the summer, obviously, but we should be able to spend the money for replacements when we need them (as we are doing, in fairness to the management).

Sorry but until your job requires you to be at your peak physical condition and have the risk of guys hitting you at collision speeds of up to 60kph then i'd avoid comparing it to your day job, it's not the same at all. Not to mention the ethics and advantages having an extra ready in the wings to push those around them to peak performance is different entirely in regards to being competetive and giving flexibility against different opposition.
