Simple question this one.
Who had the best season? Us, Sheffield or someone else?

League champions clearly... its nice to win cups and a great feeling afterwards but its hard to argue the best team in the country are the ones who have consistently performed over the whole season not a couple of games (and mostly home games at that too).
Maybe panthers fans over the cup games had more to cheer but personally I would have rather won the league title and I would say this every season..

Tough one....
I'd usually say give me the league title every time.
I do wonder who had the better season this time though. I was with thousands of other Panthers fans in Sheffield when Mosey's bullet shot finally broke the Cardiff Devils resistance and won us the Challenge Cup in sudden death OT. What a feeling! Lovely to watch the cup being presented to the players with a beer in hand and with good friends.
I was also with thousands of Panthers fans in Nottingham when we convincingly won both the games. What a feeling when Quick's effort made its way past Stewart to finally end the Coventey Blaze resistance. Fantastic to see the players presented with the trophy with a beer in hand and with good friends. Even better to party the night away with Hockey friends from various clubs.
The warm glow of winning the final game of the season does send you off into the summer with a very nice feeling.
Sheffield lost 18 league games and won the trophy on the final day away at Fife. They didn't present the trophy to their fans and less than a week later were the 1st ever EIHL top seed to fail to make the POFW.
Like I said, Usually the league but this season I'm not so sure.
Tough one but certainly a great and memorable end to the season for us Panthers fans.

Anyone who goes on the Cage Forum or Steeltalk will know that both teams have had their ups and downs throughout the season with both sets of fans bemoaning the inconsistency of both teams - who has had the better season, possibly us with Steelers a close second - who has had the most disappointing season, with-out a doubt Devils - in with a chance of three trophies and end up with none - but they do have a new arena and they played exciting hockey - at the end of the day, if I had been born in Sheffield I would probably be supporting the Steelers - luckily my parents lived in Nottingham, and despite the frustrations (Sheffield have also had their fair share) it can only be Panthers - and we also have Cam, who had everyone on the edge of their seats when he was on the ice

I would normally say the league winner, but seeing how they crashed spectacularly out of both cup competitions sways me to the panthers.
Regardless of what some may have us believe, we were right in the race for all 3 trophies up until the last month when our league form fell off a cliff.

I have to say for me I would take Panthers season over Steelers.
Steelers won the league when everyone else bottled it, us included. They were the best of a bad bunch imo. Whilst it took less games to get our trophies we looked awesome. Including smashing the league leaders on aggregate 10-0. Then dominating our other games.
It is a tough choice and I can see why many people would rather have the league title but out of the two teams we were far more entertaining (mainly cam) as well as winning two trophies.

Definitely Panthers for me. Yes they did drive us mad in the league but also played some great entertaining hockey and did a cup double. Winning the league but not making the POFW and being stuffed by your biggest rivals in a cup semi must really take the shine of the league win.

I have to wonder what the results would be if the poll was more simple. Maybe. Next year would you rather win the league or POs & CC. I'm staggered that the vote is so 1 sided.
Although this vote is rightly hindered by the emotions of the season. Things like Cam & Sheffield being so poor in the cups. And,well.... Sheffield being Sheffield.

and yet I am sure the result would be completely reversed if we were in Sheffield's position and I am sure if Sheffield fans were asked this then the results would be reversed too.

Well it could be worse.....we could have had Belfasts season. With the roster they had, they underachieved big time !

While everybody surely agrees that the League Title is the most important trophy, and the Panthers pursuit of it this season has been frustrating in the extreme I would sooner have our season than Sheffield's. Few of their fans saw them win the League and their lack of a presentation at their final home game was not well received, despite Dave Simms pathetic excuse. Their subsequent failure to make the Playoffs, compounded by being the first League winners to do so meant the season ended on a low with little celebration. The Panthers, despite crumbling in the title chase have provided some great moments whilst winning the Challenge Cup and Playoffs. Crushing Sheffield ten nil, Grabbing a slender lead against Belfast at home, and after being written off by most of us, going into the Giant's back yard and winning in some style. The Challenge Cup final was nerve shredding but the euphoria and noise as Mosey finally broke Bowns shutout was a memory that will last a lifetime. Finally, a superb Playoff weekend. Conceding just one goal against a game Fife Flyers and then shutting out a Blaze team who on the Saturday had put five past the Devils. A tough, hard hitting performance, led by Cam Janssen who was, "a waste of an import slot" according to many opposition fans. Our season or Sheffield's? Now that's not even a contest.

You have summed it up perfectly Mark.
Also a lot of fans from other teams I had a chat with at the weekend would now love Cam on their roster. He has definitely had a big impact this season and made it a lot more entertaining to watch the Panthers.

If the only reason for going to the games was the resulting silverware - and let's be honest, the league title is the biggest prize (Sheffield fans please note - that does NOT make the other trophies worthless) - then maybe Sheffield's season could be a contender. But I for one don't buy my season ticket and go to all of those games just with the objective of seeing us win the league... I go to watch hockey games. I want to watch good and entertaining hockey games. Now we've seen some poor performances from the Panthers this season and no mistake - it's been far from perfect. But overall this has been a good season for watching good entertaining Panthers performances. So... I vote for our season.

I think it was the season before last that Belfast won the league and Steelers the play offs. They didn't discount that as a failure then. I think it is very easy to dismiss the Challenge Cup and the play offs. They both take a lot to win. Obviously if there was one title only it would be the league, but I would go for 2 trophies as opposed to say 1 (and worth a bit extra).

Don't get me wrong the season has been saved by the cup wins and we have been superb in the cup competitions. But I would 100% prefer the league win, in years to come no one will look back at who won the challenge cup. The cups are about 25% of the season, where were we for the rest of it? Our lack of league titles is what our rivals will continue to hold over us until we win more and shut them up. Realistically there are 5 teams capable of winning the league, where did we finish? That should be motivation enough. I am still left feeling a little diserpointed by the season as the play offs showed, we had the best team, but we didn't show it season long.

Mark is absolutely right. If I had to chose which trophy is most important, I would of course say the League. But this poll got me thinking, and I honestly believe I'd rather have had the Panther's season.
The moments I remember are the towering highs and the crushing lows. I remember sudden-death game winning goals, and I remember bombing out of the play-off quarter finals. Sure, if we win the league I can look back and say 'we won the league!' but I couldn't tell you who we were playing when we won it. Or what the trophy looks like. Or anything resembling a presentation ceremony.
This season we've seen us win two trophies in exciting matches. Mosey's goal in the Challenge Cup will stick with me for a long time. Sheffield won the league, sure. But they won it away from home. They also bombed out of the Challenge Cup 10-0 to their fiercest rivals, and bombed out of the Play-Offs against the lowest-seeded team. They won the most important trophy, but it was book-ended by the worst sort of disappointment. We've seen two trophies raised, in person, after exciting games to finish on a high. And that's why I'd rather have had Panther's season.

Sheffield's, although I do agree in a lot of ways with what people have said. Had they not massively soiled the bed in both of the minor trophies (huh, Gary? ), or if the question were would you rather have Sheffield's 2014/15 season, or our 2015/16 season, then I think the result would lean far more in the Monteith Bowl's direction. When I turn up next September I'll be hoping to watch us win the league, and they did that. Again.

Yes, this is a thread that has us choose one but can agree with other options as well. As long as we don't accept NOT trying for the League for the easier method to win Cups . But as has also been said , we DO value the Challenge and PO competitions. I' d just like a League title, with Steelers winning nothing in the same season of course..lol I think they dislike the fact that we won two. (Smiles).
