I notice the Panthers are making a big thing this season of walk-up tickets having a "best available seats" policy where you can't choose where you sit.
Won't affect me as a season ticket holder but I was intrigued by it, as there are different definitions of what is the "best available seat". For me it would always be near the back as I like the whole ice overview, but I know some love to be at the front closer to the action. So whose definition is the box office using? And could someone argue their case that the seat they get allocated is not in fact the best available?
I suspect they simply fill up from the front and "best available" is just a fancy way of saying you get what you're given.
What do others think? What do you think is the best place to sit?

No ST for me anymore.So if they don't want my custom this is the way to go.But I am assuming that I can still pick my seat on the internet?

Presumably you can still select a price band?
I go for the higher up overview too, so wouldn't really work for me, but ST so don't need it to. I assume they're just hoping to shift the queue a bit quicker on matchday?

The arena is much the same as Panthers, fans are just the cash cow, so they can get as much money out and give less back to the fans.

On Saturday I had no problem getting the ticket I wanted. The 'best available' thing was never mentioned.
May be different when it gets really busy at the box office.

Well I think it's a great idea. The queue for tickets is soooo slow when people start fannying around picking which seat they want etc etc at the ticket office window when there is an enormous queue building up behind them. That's the reason half the games end up with a delayed face off !

Well I think it's a great idea. That's the reason half the games end up with a delayed face off ! Honestly,some people just like moaning....Lol If they had all the serving windows open it would help instead of one person serving and 20 people behind making themselves look busy. When the box office serving staff can get up to 5mph they get promoted to serving beer and dog burgers where they have to keep up 7mph and keep queues under 100 yards long.

They should at least let you select a block though. Im a ST holder but decided to go to the friendly last minute. I wanted to sit in block 13 but they couldn't do that and was allocated block 17.
However I don't think it's been done with a money first attitude. I can only see it having a negative impact on sales. Firstly I can't see it generating even one extra sale but secondly it could cost them ticket sales. Im sure some last minute walk ups are people making a late decision to come with their friends wh oalready have tickets/STs. Knowing now they have no choice to try and sit with mates may mean they decide not to bother. Clearly they weren't guarenteed to get seats with friends before but now it's pretty unlikely. Also if your a season ticket holder with a young child your highly unlikely to bring your child last minute knowing you can't ask for the seat which is usually spare next to you(not guarenteed).
It's main aim is probably to get people to buy before game day but sometimes circumstances change late on and therefor some sales may be lost. Having said all that I don't think it's impact will be that great on ticket sales in the grand scheme of things.

I understand it can save time if people have no idea, but if you know where you want to sit and tell them when you get to the window it takes no longer to sell you the seats you want really. I suppose the inconvenience depends how close to face off you can book a ticket online or over the phone, as you could probably decide on the day and still choose your seat by using those two methods.

Lets be honest, if you leave things to the last minute, you end up getting what you deserve. If you can't be bothered to spend less than 5 minutes jumping on the internet to book tickets, then you run the risk of getting what you can on the night! If its a sell out then you've have a wasted trip, if you can't get the seat you wanted then its your own fault for not sorting it sooner.

I can still buy a ticket in any block/seat available it seems, so that's ok with me Internet wise.So custom not lost, looking forward to as many away games as possible though.

I was mainly curious about their definition of "best available", not the practicalities of buying last minute tickets. Can't get my head round spontaneous decisions, I need to have everything planned in advance and to know where I'm sitting when I go to the game - when they moved us because of having the curtains up it really threw me. That's one of the reasons I have a ST even though there are quite a few games I can't make it to.

They've made seats at the top of Block 18 (last few rows) as an automatic adult £16 ticket, regardless of actual age and time of purchase. They also labeled it as the area for the slightly noisier fans which is a load of crap.

That normally only happens at away games where the home team want the noisy away fans to be least effective !

It's just a classic example of 'computer says no' customer service.
I walked up on Saturday and asked for a seat in a certain block where my friends could sit (because I don't want to battle my way around at the break to see them). The answer was that they select me the 'best seats' and that I can't specify a block, which in their mind was block 17 when I'm in 4...!
By all means offer the best seat, so when i say I want seats in block 4 they could quite easily say 'No problem, although in block 4 we have seats on row X and just to let you know we have seats in a better position and closer to the ice in block 17 in row E...' Letting me decide.
If you've never been before and they help you find the best seat then great, but when you walk up and know the arena I don't understand the hostile reaction.
It would be interesting to find out who it is who believes great customer service is built on a one-way dialogue of 'you are going to sit here tonight'.

I can kind of understand them allocating "best" ticket within a selected price banding, but to not even allow that... Seems like teething issues though, if Peacock experienced a totally different process. Some of the staff may just have it mixed up a bit.
