I know we're well into NHL play-offs but I'm fairly new to the ice hockey scene and I wondered which teams were followed/supported by Panthers fans. I'm a massive fan of the Patriots in terms of NFL, but I follow the Padres in MLB (opposite ends of the USA, I know) but I'm still to find a team in the NHL... Wondering if there was a general team that Panthers fans followed?

I like the Flyers.
Purely down to the fact that when we went to Philly a few years ago we got a personal tour of the arena by legend Bob Kelly, went behind the scenes at a training session and got to meet the team.

Don't really follow NHL but my "team" would be Chicago. It's the only NHL rink I have been to.

If I was new to it again, I'd follow a team on the East coast. If you get into watching it the time difference between east and west makes a big difference.
Whatever you do, do not follow the Coyotes, it is the path to late nights and misery.

I follow Bruins mainly because I started to watch Panthers when Nick Boynton played for us in lockout season, and he was first player I met decided to therefore follow bruins

Florida Panthers for me I have a replica shirt that I've used at the last 2 playoff final weekends sad but true,, they just missed out on a playoff place this season
And if Jaromir Jagr At 43 yrs old can compete in the top flight why not Ling at a 40 yrs

I'm not a massive follower but would have to say Leafs as I've got family in Toronto.

Leafs. I've been to Toronto 18 times, so it feels like my second home.

Something has to draw you towards a team - I remember watching the NFL on Channel 4 when it started and all they showed was the Packers, and I thought it was great that a 'small' team was able to compete with the big guns, and they had an entertaining team as well. So I always look for their result first. NHL I like St Louis (because of their shirt !), Anaheim (because of Beleskey, Getzlaf, and Perry) but if I had to pick a team I'd choose Boston, purely because they don't rely on big names, they always draw a crowd and the team seems to represent their community.

Toronto, mainly due to family, partly because I'm a glutton for punishment.

Blues for me. My mate was adamant I had to pick someone and looking at their history and their general lack of fanboy bandwagon nature (couldn't do an original 6) thought they seemed middle of the road and a good pick. Then I watched a game between them and the Oilers (my mates team) and I quickly learnt 2 things. The Oilers suck (his response was they'll make the play-offs next year, 5 years and waiting) and the blues agressive physical style was for me.
It has however brought little but optimism from October to April followed by soul sapping dissappointment come May (or earlier)

Ottawa Senators for me. I used to play an online Fantasy NHL game several years ago, & randomly bought a player called Dany Heatley. He was my top points scorer for a couple of years - during his time with the Ottawa Senators. I remember staying up late one night to watch him on TV, soon found myself cheering him & Ottawa on.

I'm first and foremost a Detroit Red Wings fan. I was born in the 313, most of my family live in the Detroit area and I was following hockey at The Joe long before I discovered it was played in this little backwater. When I moved to Nottingham I started following Nottingham Panthers purely for a local hockey fix but as I've got more into playing it myself I've started going to watch Panthers less and less.
As for the teams other Panthers fans follow, you'll find there are a lot of Chicago Blackhawks fans at the moment, likely for the same reason Chelsea and Manchester City seem to have had a bloom of fans of late. Of course they'll often give you excuses as to why they follow the Blackhawks which skirt around the word "bandwagon". Hell, a few years back the Blackhawks struggled to get Chicagoans to follow them, let alone overseas residents.

Success seems to always attract floating fans, and often they seem to have relatively little hockey knowledge they just want to be able say they are a part of the current "big thing!". Personally, I took on the Blackhawks (& most Chicago teams) when I married a Chicagoan, the tail end of the Dollar Bill years was hard to stomach but these days of success is almost a reward to those that stuck it out. My best memory was experiencing the atmosphere of the national anthem at the UC.

Sorry it's looked upon as a bandwagon team, but the NYR are my NHL team.
