Rob seems to be doing OK in Europe, and would be an interesting choice. Not sure he fits with the comment "I want an exciting Steelers side built on speed and skill. A team who can excite our fans for 60 minutes every night" though. Rob's Vipers teams were many things, but exciting hockey was not something I would associate them with #boringwilsonhockey

What is the classy comment all about??
G did well. Tony thinks it wasn't good enough. It's his club, his money, his rules.
We failed miserably in 2 cup finals and relied on the Clan dropping points to win the league. Yes, it was a good season but probably should have been so much better.
I'm shocked by the decision as just about everyone else is. But, until we see what Tony does in replacement of G, it's best not to judge.
Also, what is wrong with wanting to be the "Real Madrid" of UK hockey as you put it. It's a determination to be the best, only time will tell if Tony has it right.
Smith comes across as totally clueless in how to run a stable franchise, chop and change every 5 minutes, you won the league for crying out loud. All I can think of is theres been a fall out, you can t say he didn t meet Smiths demands else hed be living in cloud cuckoo land... The next coach will probably be told to win the CHL else hes sacked! what a muppet

Is it April 1st? Adams joined part way through the 13/14 season and inherited an average Steelers team from big Doug. Won the play off title. This season he builds on that and delivers the league title plus runners up in the cup and play offs. Looked like progress to me. Grand Slam or the sack then for the next man in. Would you bet any money that this won't work out for them though Ted? They do stuff like this, we laugh, and then the next guy wins anyway. It sounds like they want some big noise to run the thing, unless it's Weber I'll be very surprised if it's someone from the current pool of EIHL coaches. Only time will tell I guess Yotes. You can't deny their on ice success over the years. Like I say, he did seem to be building momentum. Whether they won the title by default (Braehaed bottled it) or not, whether they were the best of a bad bunch (last season) or not, they still won it. They still reached the finals of the other 2 competitions too. From the outside looking in, it looks harsh. They're (Steelers/Smith) decisive though, i'll give them that. Wonder if we will be as decisive/ruthless? Adams has built and progressed the team during the last 2 seasons and got the sack, whereas we have gone alarmingly backwards during the same period.

Yeah it does seem harsh on him, but I'll not be remotely surprised if it works out for them.

He seems to have done a pretty decent job of making the franchise stable in the first place. The press release says all the right words, more professional people from top to bottom. Time will tell whether Smith has it right or not.

Well yeah hes staying what people want to hear, hardly conclusive is it . Why does he have to say things people want to hear? He owns the club and all he has to care about is moving forwards. He will have had someone in place not long after Christmas.

Well the "biggest ice hockey club in the UK" sacks Adams well well well, I remember when Forest won 2 European, the league title and the league cup did not make them the biggest club in the UK?

"G did well. Tony thinks it wasn't good enough. It's his club, his money, his rules."Fourney. - Supporters views don't matter? I thought that when he was appointed - they were going to return to the Steelers type of hockey - according to the owner!

Maybe G was due a pay raise for winning the league.
They know who the next coach is and he has already signed, that's why I think thommo

Rob's Vipers teams were many things, but exciting hockey was not something I would associate them with #boringwilsonhockey I would be very surprised if Wilson gave up a head coach job in the DEL to join the Steelers. Paul Thompson and Chuck Weber probably the favorites maybe even throw Tony Hand in if the Phoenix don't sort out their rink issues. However after seeing how well the Blaze did by avoiding all the usual suspects or job for the boys guys and going outside the box to get Weber I would be doing the same thing if I was Tony Smith.

Getting over the initial shock and thinking about the comments made when Adams was brought in, there are some things which it encouraging in Smiths statement and some which are surprising. Firstly there does appear to be a commitment to develop local talent to the standard of elite league league from the under 20 level. I find this encouraging for British ice hockey and something Panthers could take on board. Obviously there has been work done by Corey to improve younger players. Farmer, Betteridge, Oakford and Boxill all seem to have improved this season and Corey as a coach deserves some credit for this. When people look solely at the disappointments this season, its something which tends to be ignored. Lewis Hook also seems to have benefited from sessions with the Panthers. We do seem to benefit considerably from the work done at the Lions and from what one hears Panthers could help on the coaching side a bit more with their younger players. Some good players have come through their system, can we rely on this continuing in the future? What I find surprising is that having won the league it is thought that Adams is deemed not capable of dealing with the challenges of CHL and is not man to develop young players further. I am not sure what the coaching pathway is in ice hockey, but questions must be asked. Its also top me a slightly incongruous situation where it would appear there is an intent to develop young Brits, while the import level is rising.

Ignoring the rights and wrongs of this news I do get the feeling that Tony Smith wants to be successful as a club. The only feeling I get from the Panthers management and ownership is to be successful in the finance department.

By the looks of things he got an Assistant Coach job with Nürnberg Ice Tigers in December and will be moving up to Head Coach for next season.
