Clan are announcing a signing today. If that is where he wants to play it'a fine so long as we did all we could to get him to play here.

Cownie made no secret of the fact during the season .....as well as in todays newspaper article , that the attraction of playing top level Elite league , and having the ability to visit home (Dundee)in his leisure time was a major factor in his decision. Good signing for the clan.

Well that ones gone. Now I hope we try for Lewis Hook, Jack Prince and Ollie Betteridge (2 of 3 would be great)

I read on facebook that he was leaving MK as he is coming to study in Nottingham, not sure though.. Will be hard to sign anyone until we have a coach either in place or confirmed.... taking far too long in my opinion.

He does say in that article that it's nice he's closer to home and can visit more often. Sadly we can't move Nottingham. They're in the CHL too. We're going to have to accept we aren't the standout team for players anymore

I'll give you the geography bit, but I don't think the CHL will weigh that heavily for players. With the best will in the world it'll likely be 4 games in August, enjoyable for them of course but I think the key factor for most players will always be wages and that's one area where we should still be the top side in the country.

Exactly Yotes. Can you imagine Cownie thinking "ooh I will choose Braehead because then I might get noticed by Hamburg Freezers".
Err no.....not in a million years,so that dumps that perspective of the CHL !

No, but if the deal are simalar, and one has a chance of playing a couple of games in Europe and the other doesn't, then I can see a player picking the former. It is another 'nice to have' when offering a contract.

So you would trade two games in Europe for a shed load of season long games in Edinburgh,Dundee,Fife and Hull then ?? I certainly wouldn't !!!!!

There is another, less ambitious, less hockey career related reason as to why a player would sign for a team that is playing in the CHL. That reason is that as the CHL team that he signs for starts pre season training at least 2 weeks before any other non CHL playing EIHL team does then the said player gets paid at least 2 weeks before a non CHL playing team does.
As Jessie J would say "Its All About The Money, Money, Money."

Salary starts at training camp so probably in Clans case at least 3 wks earlier.

Braehead did offer Cownie a contract last year but he chose to stay at MK lightning There is a little more to the 'story' than that.
