Have read this forum for years and finally cannot hold off posting any longer. Two years ago we were on the crest of a wave and what a chance we had to kick on and dominate this league for years to come. Instead we recruit utter garbage last year and although slight improvements have been made this season, the returning players have gone backwards. We must have either the worst or most under performing Brits in the league at present. Tonight was just another on the long list of shocking performances we have been churning out the last two seasons. We never used to lose at home and now I turn up every week with little or no expectations. I sense changes are on the horizon but fear it will be more due to pressure from the owner than the coach having to admit his recruitment has been shocking (again)

Not a lot more I can add, most bases have been covered!
The only positives were the intro video was a lot better and a lot of kids will have a nicer Xmas because of the fans generosity with the teddies!

GM not bothered tho is he because he got the big crowd he wanted... bums on seats that's all that matters. Not sure where all the rumours of the players being out on the town last night came from. it will come out sooner or later if true. Unless someone actually saw them out? As for the Teddy toss, good idea but surely could have been done at the 1st break, totally lost the momentum, bad timing in my opinion.

With the teddies, good cause and good participation by the crowd but... did the kids coming on and smacking them about with their sticks really help clear the ice quickly? Thought we'd be there all night until the guys with the brooms showed up.

I'm worried about kaner88 from the first page of this thread. He was so certain. I'm obviously delighted with the result. But frustrated too. Why pick up for this game and not the previous 3? Giants were strong, physical and ready to fight in the dirty areas. Pleased with the performance. In saying that the game could easily have swung in the last 10mins. Thankfully it didn't. One win doesnt paper over the cracks though. Giants STIL need to step up. We are miles away from a championship side. But the win was both a joy and a relief.

Choosing to play short handed again really didn't help but the effort from those on the ice simply wasn't anywhere near good enough.

I'm usually one to defend this team. We were dreadful. Probably our worst performance of the year (even worse than the 6-1 Hull match). Very boring. Giants weren't very good at all and if we played at half intensity we'd have walked out winners. We were unlucky to go behind to that rebound goal off of Wild after Modigs save and I think that killed us. Proved it wasn't going to be our night. I honestly don't think anyone needs cutting but we need Robbo or someone on a similar level in the side to inject some fresh blood. I'm a huge fan of Boxill, and I'm not blaming him but he's not the level of forward we need on a 3rd line. If Oakford and Berube were back we'd be able to use Mosey up front but sadly we can't. Didn't think giants caused Modig that many issues to be honest, but some scrappy and lucky goals. Can't think of any giants goal that was a nice build up play?
Positives: Wild is superb and I will already be hoping Corey is trying to hang on to him next year. Farmer seems to be having a great season so far.

this team has no go to guy, as a fan i look around and dont see a player on that ice that could spark something or change a game for us, the graham lachowicz higgins line is our only line that half looks like scoring, poor again.

Positives from this game:
Intro video really good (although I preferred Airborne as the intro music).
Teddy bear toss (although as said above, and as was feared pre-game, the timing of it could've affected momentum).
Cody Wild had another really good game.
Three powerplay goals.
Negatives from this game:
The rest of the team had an awful game.
We were out hit.
Lost all but two faceoffs.
No atmosphere. On the powerplay, 2 goals down with 2 minutes to go and you could hear a pin drop. I think the block 18 experiment has failed.

I flat refuse to take any blame at all as a fan for atmosphere from the stands. The team stunk and just about sucked any atmosphere from the fans completely. There was plenty of reaction from the fans on penalties and even some off side calls but I think the majority of the crowd were in abject shock. In fact there was HUGE reaction from the block 5 side at least on the last PP but again that was mostly in complete shock.

Face it, the crowd were quiet as ever tonight, as always. Yes it's easy to be reactive and respond to what's going on, but there are times (and last night was an example) of where it's obvious the team is flat and needs a lift. Fans CAN play a part in that, but not by responding with silence.

The relationship between the players and crowd has always been chicken & egg. Even block 18 seemed to have its will to cheer sucked out of them by mid way through the 3rd yesterday, we really were dreadfully boring.
Shame we don't have a bruiser to match up with Keefe or Westgarth to wake the crowd up a bit.

It was a BIG crowd yesterday for a Sunday Giants game too.

For me it's reached a point where I (and others) have always unconditionally backed the team vocally during the game but there's just nothing coming back in return from on the ice. Ken does his best too but it seems as though (especially yesterday) the team sucked all of the life out of the fans.
It's 2 way thing or at least it should be. Right now it's the turn of the players to give the fans something to shout and/or get excited about but they're incapable. It really is dire stuff this season. Painful to watch.
Anyone that thinks this set of players is capable of even getting close to winning the league this season needs their black and gold tinted glasses cleaning.

I loved the block 18 idea at the beginning. New chants (for a home game anyway). Plenty of noise, etc. When it works it is bloody brilliant. The last few weeks however I've noticed things like the block being empty as the periods start (kind of like the sponsors area at Wembley Stadium), singing chants over the top of chants that are already happening, etc. I also know of more and more that have migrated back to their original spaces. Like I say, I love the idea, but it's become something else recently.

It was getting there a few weeks back for a couple of games but yesterday the biggest noise around us was when the fluffed shots were happening on the final PP.

We need a Keefe type player in our team and then a heavy weigh aswell, Aaron Asham and Matt Kasian both free agents, both tough, both can fight, both can hit, both would give our star players (yes we have them somewhere) more ice and time to play. But hey I'm not a coach so what do I know

Given Coreys comments at the chat show about fighters, i would be very suprised if he signed one again. It doesn't need to be a fighter tho, it needs to be a player who can play first and foremost but also drop the gloves and look after other if things turn nasty like we had with Lepine, Wilson and Becket during the grand slam year.
