One of our canadians jumped one of their canadians sometime in the not so distant past I believe (15 years give or take?). It was before I started to watch hockey, and I can't be arsed to look it up, I do remember when I saw the incident being gob smacked that their fans are still crying about it.

It was before I started to watch hockey, and I can't be arsed to look it up, I do remember when I saw the incident being gob smacked that their fans are still crying about it. Pretty much sums it up. They were a new team, both sides had plenty of enforcers and one or two cheap shot merchants too, and things kicked off after the final hooter. Simple as that, nothing you don't see at least once a season somewhere in the league. Think it was the first time they'd ever seen a brawl over there, they all went mental over it and of course the opposition were to blame. Also, they were and still are desperate for a rival and have tried to talk it up ever since. It's just pathetic really. And funny too, as they get so worked up about this supposed rivalry when Panthers fans would probably rate Belfast as about 4th on the list of who are our biggest rivals (in terms of "edge" between the teams, not playing quality). On a side note, for a club that has always distanced itself very commendably and effectively from any sectarian issues in their city, I find rhetoric like never forgive, never forget is in rather poor taste.

Just seen a notification from Hamburg Freezers on Facebook (signed up to their page to find out a bit about our opponents), and it appears they have fired their coach.

Corey seems to Like playing Lawrence, although I am not sure other than physical presence what he adds. I would hope that Jacina is silencing those who were making negative comments when he signed again. Watching the Lacho goal, I keep thinking, if he wasn't British would we be saying thats what you might expect of a good North American player? Sweden is a top hockey nation, as is Finland. What their teams played against us is something of a less physical, more thoughtful game than Hamburg, which in essence is North American ice hockey. Taking that as read, I suppose that is spite of the huge difference in ranking, we had a better chance of a result against a style of play, to which we are accustomed. It was taking account of the huge difference in wage bill and the experience playing at this sort of a level, an amazing result. I am not sure what the crowd was, but I would guess around 3,000 - about an attendance (or less) for a Caps midweek match, which would of course include season ticket holders. It was a great game, as was last seasons match against Riga. What a great pity both matches attracted a fairly small crowd relative to the standard of opposition and the quality on display. It was a great performance last season and I still remember hits from Salters, where I could swear the stadium shuddered. A ticket for the three matches was the best value I will get this season. CHL has had a number of critics, in our case emanating from Belfast when he lost heavily. The inference was that we were out of our depth and that they had taken the better route (or words to that effect). Perhaps this will shut them up -- maybe not. Even when losing heavily, it was the opportunity to see top class ice hockey played to a different level than we usually see and in the end we have at least recorded on memorable performance. When the football European Cup was inaugurated, British teams stood off and then (with unfortunate consequences for Manchester United) they bit the bullet, participated and now regard European football as obligatory for the top clubs. We are miles away from that, but the game moves on and attracting the likes of Nathan Robinson, with the bait to play in this level of ice hockey, has huge knock on effects. Hopefully we can keep him for much longer than a short term contract. You also have to give huge credit to Neil Black, for backing the venture, as far as feasibly possible. Perhaps other clubs ruled it out, looking at financial considerations, as well as ice time conflicts. Often (and no doubt there is some essence of truth) Neil Black has been accused of putting financial considerations first, but he has backed his vision of how ice hockey should develop. There is a need to spread the word and if we are offered this treat in the future, there will be more takers. physical presence? not from lawrence, not seen him throw a hit yet

I'm not writing him off yet by the way. Need to see how things look when everyone who is leaving has left and when everyone is back fit.

Need to see how things look when everyone who is leaving has left and when everyone is back fit. Also would like to reserve judgement till we have a game where things get a bit tasty and kick off a bit, when his size and strength may be something we need, as well as seeing how he performs on some of the tough road trips especially on smaller ice surfaces. Not had to deal with those kinds of games yet really.

Surely even the bitterest of the anti-Panthers brigade would see this as a massive result! Not only for the Panthers but for the EIHL as a whole. Wouldn't they? Yes, I'm sure almost everyone does. I've never posted here before, I probably won't again. I've registered solely to say well done. You ought to be exceptionally proud of yourselves, both for the performance and what it says about our league. Congrats fellas I am likewise a first-timer on here & registered so I can say congratulations to everyone involved with the Panthers. Without doubt, Tuesday's game was one of the best games I have seen on these shores since the days of the Cobras. As a neutral, it was a great evening's entertainment & the Hamburg fans were a credit to their team - superb atmosphere throughout. A special mention for me must go to the Brits - Lacho's goal was sublime, Stevie Lee was solid & improves every season, Boxill & Oakford put in shift after shift that warrant great praise (as indeed do the EPLers who I know less about). As a team (& support staff), it was one of my favourite night's hockey & I'm so glad I made the effort to go ... well done!

If someone had told me a few years back that we'd see a British born, bred and developed player scoring a goal like that against the DEL Champions, I'd have said that you'd have taken a few too many hits to the head. Its one of the better goals I've seen a Brit score in a while, even though it did seem to be in slow motion.

Re-watched the game and realised Hicks and the refereeing team did a great job. They really let the game flow as much as they could.
