I'm not sure if this has been brought up befor but I do know some people have been wondering that with having 2 conferences if us panthers do win the playoffs do we take the grand slam. Well I found a short explanation to what grand slam means.
Sports The winning of all the major or specified events, especially on a professional circuit.
So all trophies that can be won by any one team will be classed as grand slam winner so this does not include conference winners because obviously its impossible to win both:).
Hope this has helped those who were wondering what if.
Come on you PANTHERS lets have a grand slam:)

obviously Panthers couldn't win both conferences; but they could have / should have won their own conference, so the argruement carries on.
The level on points criteria is flawed anyway as panthers won two more games than the Giants, yet they didn't win the conference title.

No matter what the outcome tomorrow it's been probably our best season ever. Certainly the team have done us proud this year.

Until the EIHL sorts out the farcical nature by which inter and intra conference games are played, and the attendant farcical nature by which the conference titles are therefore decided, it will remain an irrelevant Mickey Mouse trophy that can not be considered anymore part of the Grand Slam than the 20/20.
Grand Slam is as its always been. League title, mid season trophy, play off title.

It cannot be a grand slam - according to DS- unless you also win your conference i.e. win 4 competitions. I am still not sure if there is an actual trophy for the conference.

Didn't win the conference, no grand slam.
A grand slam is when you win everything available to you - obviously can't win the Gardiner conference but for me, a GS would be Conference, league, CC and playoffs.

There is, we where presented with it at our last game, and I believe Braehead have received one also. If you win tomorrow then you would of had a fantastic season, a season I would be more than happy for the Giants to have. However I do not consider it a Grand Slam, my interpretation of a Grand Slam is that it consists of winning all domestic season cups or trophies that you have taken part in within a given year. This is taken from Wikipedia on the definition of a grand slam: "Otherwise, in sports that have few competitions/trophies available a Grand Slam is defined as winning every competition/trophy you are eligible for in a given year; this is usually limited to domestic competitions/trophies in the field of internal/national league sports." Panthers had a chance of winning the conference title but didn't, and that to me means this wont be a grand slam. However who really cares? if you guys do end up winning the PO trophy tomorrow (which I hope you dont) then it will cap off an amazing year for your team, one that any team in the league would be proud of.

To be honest Chris I would have been happy with just a league title. The Challenge cup is a welcome bonus so regardless I think that the Panthers have had a great season. Could get better still but I am not one for being greedy.

On your own local sports show last night the reporter stated you were "chasing a treble having narrowly missed out on a grand slam chance"
A treble, consisting of the thing you have craved for 50 odd years. Not to be sniffed at surely!
You looked good today. I can't see Belfast having enough tomorrow.

Triple Crown sounds as good to me. Amen. Saying that though, James is right. The stupidity of the conference only games counting towards it was shown better by the other lot; Edinburgh were clearly the best team from that conference, as shown in the league, but finished 5th in the conference - ridiculous. Plus, had they used all games, it would've guaranteed a Scottish team at the PO weekend (Edinburgh v Fife quarter, by my reckoning), which would've added some interest at least for them. So yeah, no Grand Slam for me (should we manage it tomorrow of course), but it'd be 3 trophies, and I don't really care what they call it.

Grand slam can only be winning competitions that ALL teams are eligible for. Not this daft concept of winning every trophy on offer. What if we have a challenge tournament against some NHL sides mid season?
No. Simply a grand slam is if you win all the trophies that EVERYONE has competed for. In this league it's challenge cup, playoffs and league. However. Belfast pose a very difficult obstacle to the final trophy.

Giroux is spot on. We could have won the Conference but didn't. End of. I say this with not one iota of complaint.

Thanks to the sentiments / well done messages to the fans of the other teams, It's very considerate of you.
As I said previously, and others as well: It can't be classed as a grand slam; but it could / maybe would be as good as.
If Panthers beat Giants today then it's a: DOUBLE DOUBLE TREBLE anyway, & I would certainly drink to that...

From a neutral (clan) perspective I would say you need the conference to win the grand slam, and I think that is quite widely accepted across the league. I do think you'll beat Belfast today though and you have been far and away the best team this season.
As an aside regarding the conference trophies, the league didn't provide any. Kirsty Longmuir had to go out herself and buy a trophy for the clan!

And you can bet diamonds that if the Panthers had won their conference the self same people would be bending over backwards to devalue it.

I'm with others on this that a Triple Crown would be just fine thankyou!
IMHO, the whole Conference thing was created by the Elite League to give our friends in Scotland - and I'm not being patronising or sarcastic when I say this - something to focus on; build new rivalries; renew old ones, and fill their rinks again.
To a certain extent, I think this has worked for them, and helped the financial stability of the clubs, and consequently, the League as a whole. I hope it continues year on year!

In tennis for example it's just winning the majors, not every tournament you can win. I stand by the majors argument. You win the actual top 3 and it's a grand slam.
