Got to agree with those comments - never can understand why some just can't see how good Clarkie is - for me - best brit in the league - and has been for a few seasons now

This is good news all round - top (re)signing news. I'd happily take DAB and Lepine back now followed by whatever fresh blood/upgrades CN can muster for the rest ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png)

I'm currently using one of Clarke's old sticks, I can't seem to score a bloody thing with it. Perhaps I just need to take more shots...... ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) Very happy with the Clarke, Benedict and Francis signings, less so for Green but I guess there aren't too many choices out there for EIHL back-ups. Hopefully this deal with the Lions works out and he builds his confidence a bit more.

Fantastic news on all fronts... Benny and Franny were on my 'must resign' list and with Fox, Clarke, Myers, Lachowicz and levers thats a solid core of last years forwards along with new blood Galivan and kind of new blood Ward we are already looking good up front with (i think) two more forwards to sign.
Clarke fulfills a role that no other British player in the EIHL can and does it on an import level, he does what is asked of him and in last season IMO showed he has more dimensions to his game. One massive check coming out of the box comes to mind and coming back to defend a bit more, changing his game slightly whilst maintaining his goal output... 3 more years? Fantastic!
As for Dan Green, happy enough so long as we don't see him too often. What is exiting is the prospect of 18 year old up-and-coming Sam Gospel training with us and seeing a bit of ice time when we are hopefully 6-1 up over a Div.2 team rather than a shaky unconfident 30 year old Dan Green.

Why cant people understand that Clarkey isnt a lazy player. Just because he doesnt skate around the ice like a headless chicken he gets classed as lazy. He doesnt need to run around like a mad man, thats not his game. He's a sniper so he leaves that to others whilst he finds the space and puts the puck in the net. He works no less on the ice than anyone else. My only criticism of him is that alot of the time he pulls away from playing the body when he has good time to hit people. THANK-you!! I've been saying this for years... Someone else realises this... Clarke's scoring game is finding a gap and exploiting it - not something that can really be done when rushing around like a nutter (which may look like putting in the effort, but often to little use). As for the comments about only scoring in "lopsided games" (ie: against the weaker teams)... that's a load of bull as well. How come DAB doesn't get criticised for that? Not that I think he should - far from it - but last season Clarke scored more goals against the two teams above us - Belfast & Sheffield - (8 goals) whilst DAB only got 4... and where Clarke got 18 goals against Dundee, Edinburgh, Fife & Hull - DAB got 21. Yet one is lauded as a brilliant goalscorer (which IMHO he is) and the other as a lazy waste of space... yet the former only got 2 more goals than the latter. This whole "Clarke = lazy" thing seems to have been accepted as fact without question... keeps getting trotted out again and again, regardless of anything approaching reason or facts. Personally I do not think Clarkey is lazy and I don’t think he ‘only’ scores in lopsided games but nobody can deny that a lot of those rubber marks on the plexi come from his shots and in those lopsided games he gets a lot more freedom to rack up points than if he were on a lesser team – his shots to goals ratio would not be great if such a stat were recorded accurately – but granted he is far from the only one who has that opportunity. Jade was (and still is) another who racked up lots of points when the pressure was off. This does not make him a bad player. This doesn’t not mean we shouldn’t have the guy on the roster. They are just observations / opinions on his strengths and weaknesses – things that all players have right up to those icing in the SC Final right now through to those who’ve been on the golf course since before Easter! The conversation wasn’t about DAB, it was about Clarke; however if you gave me a straight choice of who I’d want in a situation where we REALLY needed a goal it’d be the former every single time and twice on Sunday’s because in my view he’s more likely to make a chance count. Anyway, fact is we’ll hopefully have them both firing on all cylinders all season long.

The great Clarkey debate rages on. But anyone who can make the twine shiver as he does gets my vote. Five goals in one game a few years ago - he kept slapping and the twine kept snappin'. Why waste your time slapping your lips about his laziness and shot v goal rate when you could be thinking about D-men for the team. We ship out Myers and haven't signed either Brock or Guy - we need to concentrate on a good solid stay-at-home enforcer.
Franny and Benny. What a double act - heart and soul of the team. Do we need DAB? Yes - then with a decent defence we'll almost be ready for the triple.

I can't see how time in ENL2 will benefit Dan Green. Fair enough if the Lions were challenging at the top of ENL 1 like they have been, there are some very good sides in Div 1, but I really don't see what the Lions & Panthers are doing here...

because Pucky he wasnt very good when called upon last season and even the more gullable panthers fans saw that so the management needed to spin the story to the masses...
Oh and it says in the paper he has been here 3 years i thought he joined at the start of the last season?...

Delighted with all of these signings. I cannot believe the criticism of Clarkie on here by some people. Any forward knows that you aim for the corners which is why a big percentage may indeed miss the goal but if you get one smack in the corners/gaps, with Clarkies power you are extremely likely to score. I'm sure a a bigger percentage would end up on target if it wasn't the corners he was going for and just aiming to get it on target but most would end up saved ala Zemlak at home last season.
The guy bleeds black and gold and deserves his testimonial and the no 5 shirt retiring as and when Clarkie calls it a day. Always more of an asset to a team than Meyers.

Clarke's 225 goals in 385 games suggests otherwise Not goin to argue Clarke's an asset but when you are afforded the luxury of 20 shots a game hameering into the plexi 8 yards wide of the goal for every 1 you get on target in numerous lop sided games on home ice it kind of helps the goals per game ratio. This is a big season for Clarke - he has far more games where he wont get that luxury - he's good enough to step up to the mark though. Until someone actually presents the statistics for the number of shots he has in a game off target compared to on target and then compare that with other top scorers in the league then this argument is well and truly flawed.

I really can't see Green being a gate opener for the Lions but he might visit some interesting rinks! He will certainly get plenty of ice time, how much benefit that will be is yet to be seen I guess? I suppose Green may decide his days in Nottingham are at an end and that this situation might force hi shand in some way, who knows? Whatever I wish him well whilst hoping he is able to help out with the Lions in the coming season.
