Overjoyed about Benny and Francis, loved watching them last year.
However a 3 year deal for Clarke seems excessive IMO, although he does score goals, his work rate isn't anywhere near where it should be and my concern now with such a long contract there will be too much coasting.

3yr deal not worth the paper it's written on tbh. Clarke is a good Brit (however dowd and peacock both scored more points last term), but no more valuable than Meyers imo, in the grand scheme of things, bin the import limit and they're both toast. Clarke's 225 goals in 385 games suggests otherwise Not goin to argue Clarke's an asset but when you are afforded the luxury of 20 shots a game hameering into the plexi 8 yards wide of the goal for every 1 you get on target in numerous lop sided games on home ice it kind of helps the goals per game ratio. This is a big season for Clarke - he has far more games where he wont get that luxury - he's good enough to step up to the mark though.

the pivotal point of Clarke signing will be how well he connects with Weaver on our Power play.

Couldn't have put it better myself.
If was to take as many shots as Clarke does then there is a chance I would score 30 goals a season.
His work ethic is too poor for a league winning side....

Every team in the league would sign Clarke if he was available.
Why cant people get there head around it? If he had a much better all round game he would not be playing in the EIHL.
He is a big asset for us. Why cant people just enjoy him as he is and enjoy the many many goals he has scored for us.

I honestly believe Clarkies work rate was much improved last season compared to previous season when he was with Galbraite - that was extremely poor from both of them. With Fox, Benny and Francis all back Clarkie can see what real work-rate is and I think he will improve again this year.

Makes me laugh when people don't like David "All time EIHL goal scorer "Clarke.. Who would you replace him with? There isn't a replacement for someone of this calibre hope 5 is retired after he leaves too

I understand your comments, and my view (which I appreciate is probably in the minority) is that I want a Panthers team which gives 100% EVERY game. If they did so then maybe we wouldn't be talking about 1956 anymore...... Clarke for me is the one individual whose work rate does not match is ability and IMO does not justify all the praise he receives.

Fair enough.
I thought his work rate last season was fine.

Delighted with all of the signings and also the fact that Dan Green is going to get some ice time with the Lions as I believe it will help keep him sharp if he has to play a game for the Panthers. With regards to Clarky delighted with his new deal he has been a great servant with the Panthers and like said above as a Brit who would you possibly replace him with for point production alone.

Shaping up to be a very good roster. Would like Lepine back, plus two other import D. DAB - liked him, but would another season be one too far? I do smile at the comments lauding Meyers as the 'Double Double' captain. If he was so awsome as a Captain why are there no pictures of him lifting the league trophy Looking back athe fixtures last year when he was out for the first part of the season we didnt seem to do too badly HL

lets just hope we dont need to play the backup AT ALL. +1 thats what winds me up about the Back up thing... if we're having one, lets get one we have confidence in that can do a job if needed. if K wall gets an injury in an important game (especially now the way the leagues set up, being longer and against more dangerous opposition) we're screwed... if its a long term injury, even for a couple weeks, Dan Green won't win us games.

Why cant people understand that Clarkey isnt a lazy player.
Just because he doesnt skate around the ice like a headless chicken he gets classed as lazy.
He doesnt need to run around like a mad man, thats not his game. He's a sniper so he leaves that to others whilst he finds the space and puts the puck in the net.
He works no less on the ice than anyone else.
My only criticism of him is that alot of the time he pulls away from playing the body when he has good time to hit people.

I've been saying this for years... Someone else realises this... Clarke's scoring game is finding a gap and exploiting it - not something that can really be done when rushing around like a nutter (which may look like putting in the effort, but often to little use). As for the comments about only scoring in "lopsided games" (ie: against the weaker teams)... that's a load of bull as well. How come DAB doesn't get criticised for that? Not that I think he should - far from it - but last season Clarke scored more goals against the two teams above us - Belfast & Sheffield - (8 goals) whilst DAB only got 4... and where Clarke got 18 goals against Dundee, Edinburgh, Fife & Hull - DAB got 21. Yet one is lauded as a brilliant goalscorer (which IMHO he is) and the other as a lazy waste of space... yet the former only got 2 more goals than the latter. This whole "Clarke = lazy" thing seems to have been accepted as fact without question... keeps getting trotted out again and again, regardless of anything approaching reason or facts.

Absolutely love this news! Francis was my MVP last season, the guy has so much speed and skill, and has a cracking wrist shot! Very happy with Benedict too, good grinder who will consistently put up good numbers every year. Hope and pray that Kwall goes a season unscathed, because if he is out for even a few weeks, I honestly think it will massively hinder our league hopes. No offense to Greener, but IMO he's not EIHL back-up quality. What's that bloke from Newcastle up to now, McAllister I think his name was?

If Kowalski was out for any length of time they'd bring in an import as cover, a la KSP a couple of years back. No side in the EIHL would get too far playing backup.

Wonder what the situation would be if, say, he was out for 2 weeks? Doubt they'd find someone willing to come over for that sort of a time period, but at the same time, if we had 4 games against our conference rivals with Green in nets, it could hammer our season.

Maybe, but no quality Brit netty is going to play gate opener, and an import wouldn't come in to sit in the stands on the off chance that Kowalski got a lengthy injury.
Basically, I think everyone's in the same boat, I doubt Dan is much worse (if at all) than the backups from the other sides.
