Evening all,
I'm leaving for Canada in August, in applying for my work visa it turns out i need travel insurance first, there are so many companies out there and was wondering if anyone has travelled to canada in the past and has a company that is reputable and that you would recommend?

I think you need to look at the claims history of the provider. Most on here will have had travel insurance, but doubt many will have claimed.
We have an annual one with Swift Cover which is insured with AXA. Whilst we have worldwide cover, we have only made a claim on a holiday in Europe, and they were excellent in how they dealt with the claim and quickly paid out.

Money Saving Expert forums have some good threads on the subject.

My son has just taken up his 2nd year visa for Canada. First year he was insured by Citybond Young Traveller - underwritten by AXA. He fell down some stairs at work and had to be taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment. AXA in the US took over the claim and dealt with it all themselves. We had absolutely no problem with them paying out and didn't have to get involved other that giving the information required...easy!! This year, City Bond won't renew because he is already in Canada so he has taken medical insurance with AXA, which, I think is all immigration are looking for. That was quite expensive though but he had no option. I would recommend Citybond Young Traveller/AXA without hesitation, going by our experience. Enjoy Canada, I'm sure you will love it.
