I'm looking for a good pub to the North / North East of Nottingham. Roughly speaking somewhere in the triangle formed by Nottingham, Mansfield and Southwell.
I want somewhere that serves food of a similar standard to the Vic Hotel in Beeston, but that is also suitable for kids. I want the kids to actually eat their food, not reject an expensive plate of half-sized adult food.
Any suggestions?

The Bread and Bitter in Mapperley is the current front-runner. Same brewery as the Vic Hotel.

Think you'll be looking for a while if you want to find a pub as good as the vic!

Think you'll be looking for a while if you want to find a pub as good as the vic! The Vic does great food and beer, but it's a bit rubbish for families. They have no high chairs and kids aren't allowed in the upstairs room they use when downstairs is full. They don't have a kids menu either. The Bread and Bitter was pretty good. Also a Castle Rock pub so plenty of good beer to choose from, the food was pretty good too (proper freshly prepared and cooked food, not as good as the Vic's though), they had high chairs and a kids menu too.

Burnt Stump just off the A60 near the police headquarters is a decent pub for kids, as is the White Post near Farnsfield on the A614, and the Ye Olde Bridge Inn at Oxton does great food, though I've not been in there with the kids. Slightly more expensive is the Griffins at Papplewick, but the food is worth paying extra for.

The Hayloft (Giltbrook) Eastwood does two for £10.

Not far off J29 of M1 there is the Hardwick Inn, bit more expensive than pub-grub, but good food and portions are belly-busters!
