Following Gary Moran's comments in the NEP today, it got me wondering who was the last player to be 'gassed' by the Panthers. I recall Marcus Adolfsson back around 1999, but cannot think of any one since then. Also, can anyone remember which import was axed(when we were allowed only 3) just 2-3 games into the same season that Paul Adey first came to these shores. I remember that there was talk of Paul resigning in protest. Shall we say the rest is history.

I think you are right. Do you recall who replaced him?

None other than PA himself

None other than PA himself You may well be correct, but I seem to think that Paul was already here, as they had come over together having played together previously.

Bruce Thompson came over with his friend Darren 'Doc' Durdle. It was the year Panthers bucked the trend and played with 2 Import Defenceman, which was very radical back then (the other being the great TK). Bruce Thompson did not set ice on fire shall we say and was replaced after the Autumn Cup games by Paul Adey, who if I am not mistaken got kicked out for fighting in his first or second game

It was Paul that replaced him, and yes you are correct that he was kicked out of the game in his first few games. Thanks for jogging my memory.

I thought Bruce Thompson lasted a bit longer than 2-3 games but I could be wrong.
Anyone else remember Tyler Larter? Now he was bad!

I know the name, but have no clue what he looked like, what position he played, when he played or how he played. He must of been poor if he left absolutely no impression on me.

I thought Bruce Thompson lasted a bit longer than 2-3 games but I could be wrong. A colleague has just informed me that he played 8 games for Panthers before being axed. Talking about bad players, do you recall Danny Bissonette and Peter Chiarelli, both were axed the previous season to Bruce. The latter being particularly un-impressive.

You are right that Premak replaced Cernich, however he was not the last one to be axed during the season.

Yeah Panthershistory has that, but the hockeydb only has him icing for Durham in 1993-94. I don't honestly recall him playing competitive games for us, but Pete Walch has got the stats from somewhere, so fair enough. I do remeber the IHNR having a little info bit about Larter being cut & being replaced by Lambert

J. C. McEwan anyone?
Perhaps not strictly one for this thread, as he 'gassed' himself, i.e. he flew in, trained once and went home, only advising the club in a phone call from the airport. So he never actually played for us, which was a pity as he was a big guy with great stats who bore a striking resemblance to Bob Carolgees.
Can't remember which season it was, but it was mid-80s. I can claim to be one of about 3 fans who met him as I was skating on a Tuesday night and there was JC standing in one of the exits watching what was going on. I went over and said 'welcome to nottingham JC', and he said 'thanks'. Then a few of us watched him train and that was that. Can't have been anything I said, surely.

larter was axed by us as he just didnt seem to fit in however he went to durham on trial and scored over 3 points a game but still got axed then went to whitley (couldnt be many players played for both durham and whitley in the same season, think he was a pretty good player for them too iirc) As for kord what a player loved him to bits no better stay at home defencemen but definitely got a nose bleed if he passed the red line howver saw both hattricks he scored that season WOW.. he did however see out the season before being dropped iirc again.

I guess JC went one step further than Duncan McPherson (RIP) in 1989, who as you must be aware, signed for Panthers, then went skiing in Europe. He never arrived in Nottingham, however his body was found several years later. Totally off this thread Stef, do you remember Bruce Ford. I understand he was involved with the original supporters club back in 1980.

Unfortunately Bruce died almost 12 years ago after returning to Brighton. During his last year, he still tried to get to Panthers games as often as he could. He was involved with the supporters club from the start in 1980 until it took off in the mid 1980's. Many other people may also have known him as the manager at Ilkeston ten-pin bowling centre. During the 12 years being an avid Panthers supporter, he rarely missed a home game and tried to get to as many away games as possible, given his work.

Yes, I remember Bruce. I think he was chairman of the first supporters club and Steve Cooper (top man, and still to be seen at Panthers matches) was secretary. I remember Bruce used to get a bit flustered sometimes but it is people like him putting the time in voluntarily who keep these things going.
I remember the Duncan McPherson business as well. Very sad.
