Yeah, I know there will be a divided view and opinion on this But where is the best place in town these days to go out and be seen A little bit about me though too 40, single, straight, tall, slim, own hair etc Don't want it too noisey...but its so many years since I have been to town at the weekend I wouldn't know where to start these days. Advice greatfully recieved Mansfield would be best for the likes of you.

What kind of music are you into and are you bothered about the price of the ale?

What kind of music are you into and are you bothered about the price of the ale? The price of ale is not a problem as I no longer drink (alcohol disagreed with me - even when I drank small amounts) - but lets be sensible about the price of drinks - even if its for me or a woman! Music taste - 80's, 90's and some modern stuff. But not in to the indie, rock or house/garage scene etc And Nottingham has changed so much over the last 5-10 years; not all of it for the better

In my honest opinion town is crap. If you want to meet a woman try dating websites.
You can then have a guarantted date for the weekend, rather than going out to find someone

Malt Cross is a decent bar, haven't been there for a while tbh. Good for a sit down drink/chat, possibility of live music, not sure about the variety of on tap largers, it used to be limited. if you are fussy?? nice venue, friendly crowd.
Phil, half the fun is the exploring of different bars. perhaps you should ask where not to go? lol
List some bars you are intrested in and i'll give you an overview.

the biggest issue I have is that I want somewhere lively, but not rowdy. Somewhere with plenty of women that go there, but not used as a pick-up joint. Oh and lastly somewhere with a little sophisitcation without having to pay double the cost of every where else. Confusing I know

lol, it's got it all except the sophistication. You lot have just made my life and the decision a whole lot harder...and I now regret having to ask the question. I also think being the wrong side of 40 doesn't help and for the fact is I cannot stand kids that go out drinking alcopops all night long. Or women that get so drunk that they throw themselves at men cos they are that desparate either. I just want somewhere where I can find the average man/woman on the street who has no false pretenses (sp check pls) about anything

By the way, anyone see me ANYWHERE with a woman, it could be a friend as well...lol Going into town tonight with such a woman. So I'll be in your situation Phil70 , out of date regards pubs etc 'on a date'..hee

All you can eat chicken wings, cold Kopparberg and delightful service make for a good night

Phil, have you found your place yet?
Have you tried The Approach on Friar Lane? (more or less opposite Walkabout) I reckon that might not be a bad compromise for someone your age and for the things you say you're looking for in a bar (I don't think there's a single bar in Nottingham that meets all your requirements). It's a different place at different times of the evening though as it does food, has live acts, and gets busy later on.
If you don't like it there then you're not far away from The Malt Cross on St James's street which is worth a look, and if you like the Lace Market but want a change of scene then try some of the places on Chapel Bar (though they can be a bit pricey like the Lace Market).
So there's a bit of a pub crawl there for you if you're still looking for somewhere to go.
