Do we know for sure why Ross didn't return to Nottingham this year?

I was under the impression he had a re-occuring shoulder injury he needed physio for?

Would have done a job while Levers is out.
Still can't believe we missed out on Farmer. Could have played him instead of Norton, big mistake IMO.
What we going to do when Levers, Clarke, Myers & Meyers all retire at the same time?

Norton has settled in nicely, pointless taking him out and slapping in another brit just becuase he has better credentials.

Also unless I'm mistaken one is a forward and the other a defender.

What we going to do when Levers, Clarke, Myers & Meyers all retire at the same time? find replacements. such as Lacho, Lee, Norton, Ward. etc... plenty of youngsters out there. and i'd imagine more will come through in the next 5 or so years.

We've got good young players coming through all of the time... It's pointless getting into the "our junior system is the best in the country" debate that people in certain places *cough*Sheffield*cough* like to go on about... but the truth is, the Nottingham junior system is certainly one of the strongest in the country. There's a lot of young talent there, and more coming through all of the time. We'll do OK.

Why would we have played Farmer rather than Norton? Weak link in the team IMO, get an extra import on D, play Farmer. Don't think there are enough good young players around TBH we need to sign all the best ones.

Don't think there are enough good young players around TBH we need to sign all the best ones. The problem is, as much as I agree that there are not enough young guys around, that if you don't nurture guys like Nortz then there will be far fewer around than there are now. Tom has bags of potential and, in my opinion, is going to learn little at EPL level. Having him on the roster is a sensible move. Remember it's about more than just what you see on a Saturday. It's about training with the guys day to day, being on the coach to away games, taking advice from the seasoned pros, taking advice from Corey. Just going after all the top young brits and ignoring the ones who have come through the youth systems in place in Nottingham is not going to serve us well in the future. Hockey is hardly a glamorous sport as it is, giving the younger guys a goal and seeing guys like Tom ice for the Panthers keeps them, focused on the end game. Some good players are going to come through other systems, for logistical reasons more than anything, that's just the way it is, it's not that easy to just 'go and sign them'.

The issue with the EPL is that there is such a big difference in standard. In the EPL, theyre tending to play against Brit Netminders with only 4 imports who are a lower quality to the EIHL. So whilst it's good to get some ice time, it may not necessary help when they step back up.

So whilst it's good to get some ice time, it may not necessary help when they step back up. Its a bit harsh - taking Peterborough as an example, Maris Ziedins is EIHL quality without question (he's an Olympian for gods sake. The guy ooozes class, and is a great bloke off ice as well) , Glowa has been doing a job in the EIHL for ever, and the new import (whose name I wont even try and spell) is of the same standard as most in the EIHL's lower reaches. And the Brits - well Hutchinson is probably the best Brit in the EPL, and certainly EIHL quality (would love him to go back home to the North East and play) Joe Miller is (IMO) the most entertaining Brit to watch in the whole country, and is another who would easily make the step up, Warren Tait - well when he was at Newcastle he was just about our best outskater. Imports included. James Ferrara has come on leaps and bounds in the last year, and the Steelers have already tried to sign Steve Duncombe this season - but Stevie said no. I reckon that Peterborough would give the likes of Newcastle, Dundee and Hull a good, very close game, and if Ross was to come back to Peterborough I'm sure it would do him the world of good.

They're all rubbish, lets steal some finished products like Shuff and Coventry fans do. Might start winning the league.

is he filling in for your injured brit? Who do you mean with 'Your' Injured Brit?? The injured Brit we have is Levers and Ross went to Belfast not Dalgleish..... you thinking that maybe Ross got a call from Levers to stand in and is a couple of years behind the time and thought Levers was still playing for Belfast?

What the hell are you on about!? Ross Dalgleish is playing Belfast because of their injury problems, which includes Belfast's British player Craig Peacock. The only thing I can think of is that he saw you have Belfast in your name and presumed you were a Giants fan, which is plausable. Your repsonse was a bit harsh don't you think?? He only asked a question.

I went to watch Blaze v Giants last night and Ross was no great addition to the team. Apart from a bit of hand slapping with Farmer he wasn't up to much. That said Cov & Bel were awful last night. Bel are heavily hit by injuries and Cov were just so slow to get going. The score line doesn't really reflect the game.
A smart Panthers appearance could have got 2 points last night playing either team. Definite highlight was the look on Thommos face as he left the ice after the first period - if looks could kill! Whatever he said worked though becasue Cov came out with a bang.

didn't too too badly for a guy who hasn't trained with his team yet.
He had a much better game on Saturday night in Hull, causing problems etc - he's now sitting at 0+2 in 3 games
I actually want him to stay for the remainder of the season from what I saw over the weekend. A young Brit with a bit of fire in his belly and passion is a welcome addition to the squad imo he's only with us on a game by game basis though.

Tenacious, would skate through brick walls for his team and will not back out of anything with anyone. He was very well thought of by the rest of the roster in Nottingham last season and that speaks volumes. You could do a lot worse than boosting your ranks with a guy like Ross.
