i was speaking to some Belfast fans at the game last night about Belfast getting some amazing players and about the Boston game and they were saying that the Boston game was a massive selling point for them getting some of their players this season and that the players who are chosen to play are to sign a contract to say they won't fight the bruins or land full blown checks.

Well what's the point in them coming over them, to slaughter us on the scoreboard? Which will prove what exactly? That they're a hell of a lot better than us which is damn obvious to every single hockey fan in this country.

Surely that would be standard for a game of this type. Bruins wont risk having players seriously injured. I don't know about it being massive selling point (the game itself), but Doug did mention that it gave the Giants organization instant creditability that such an event was taking place with an NHL team. Im sure it also boosts the overall image of the league.

Does anyone really believe the Boston Bruins will be playing anything more than 3rd or 4th liners and players from their AHL affiliate the Providence Bruins?
Seriously now, they have a season opener just days later, why are they going to bother risking their best players in a game against an select team from an ice hockey backwater?

The fact they have a season opener so close may mean they may use some of their stars, even though they may have limited ice time. It'll give their players a chance to get match fit and give their lines more chance to gel while not running the risk of getting hurt/injured in a game that's virtually got a no hitting policy in place.

Don't you just get the feeling that there are going to be a large number of hockey fans who will feel somewhat short-changed after this 'experience'?

they'll do what all teams do in pre season, run a bunch of rookies with the bigger names, it's never going to be a full team out.
should be a good chance to see some of the next generation for the bruins though, tyler seguin hopefully.

........while not running the risk of getting hurt/injured in a game that's virtually got a no hitting policy in place. What gives you the idea there is a 'no hitting policy' in place, vitually or not? Its either a no-checking game (in which case its even more of a joke) or its not, 'virtually' doesn't cut it. Look at it from the POV of some of the EIHL players, there will be scouts from at least the Briuns AHL affiliate, maybe scouts from a few other AHL teams too. Do you think some of these EIHL players, especially the Brits, won't want to try and shine under their gaze? Do you think they're going to go out and play a soft game when it could be their one chance to get noticed by people from the NA leagues? Now look at it from the POV of the Bruins who know that some EIHL players will want to get noticed. Do you honestly think they're going to risk their top players being injured by someone desperate to get noticed in a nothing game days before the season proper starts? The Bruins don't need this game to 'gel' as a team (they have a well-run pre-season camp for that), this game is purely about the Bruins tapping into that 'Irishness' that all 5th generation Irish-Americans love so much, hoping that by doing so it'll get a few more through the doors at the TD Garden.

I'm a massive Bruins fan and a little gutted i can't make this game. However, when tickets to watch the PROPER Bruins game in prague a week later were actually cheaper than this game i was quite releived i made the choice i did.
This game promises to be a flop in my opinion. We already have an extensive pre season schedule against NHL opposition before this game and it can only be seen as a small Dtour as the team makes its way to central Europe. And as was rightly said above, its the bruins way of exploiting the whole Irish thing. I really hope it is an exciting game in which the fans get to see the NHL stars put on a real show but i have serious doubts

An earlier poster stated that players would have to sign a contract stating that they couldn't finish their checks if they wished to play.
Now I've never played hockey (although i have been watching it for over 20 years) so have no idea how easy it is to check someone without finishing it. But I have played a great deal of rugby and football and know how difficult it is to hold back a tackle in either if these sports. Ask anyone who plays them and one of the easiest ways to get injured is to hold back when tackling someone. Therefore I put 'virtually' perhaps I should have said I perceived it as being a no contact game. Again it's just my personal opinion on reading what others have said.
I totally see your point that players from the EIHL will want to put themselves on show, but it all depends on what they have had to sign in order to play in this game. If they have signed a contract saying they are not allowed to fight or finish their checks what do they stand to loose if they ignore this.
As neither of us know what they will have to sign I suppose we will to wait for the night to see what type of game we get.

I said a while back it would be nothing but a glorified training session.
A lot of people disagreed.

In two interviews a NHL offical made it clear that this would be their top team playing on the ice. I think Todd Kelman also stated this.

Yeah. Man U make the oppsition sign a contract saying they cant tackle. utter BS. If the Elite league boys start throwing their weight about, they'll get it back with intrest.
Bruins will want a good work out, Kelman ain't paying £500K for the youth team, they may mix it up a bit but I am convinced we'll see all the healthy stars get Ice time, They want to be in the line up for the first game for fudges sake!

They aren't going to go to the expense of sending over rookies/AHLers when the season is just about to start. I've watched enough NHL pre saeson games to know they are just as intense as any other game. As for fights in pre season games...check the fight log on Hockey Fights... www.hockeyfights.com/leagues/1They happen.
