Just been looking at the remaining fixtures of both teams, and the breakdown is as follows:
Coventry
Capitals - 2A 1H Devils - 0A 2H Giants - 1A 2H Hull - 1A 0H Sheff - 2A 2H New - 0A 0H Not - 1H 2A
Panthers Capitals - 0A 1H Devils - 1A 1H Giants - 0A 1H Hull - 1A 1H Sheff - 2A 1H New - 1A 1H Cov - 2H 1A
Steelers still have a big part in deciding where the title goes, and it will be interesting to see if Sgroi has the effect some people think.
We only have the Giants once more, which is a good thing, but Cov play them three more times, although they have a very good record against them this year.
Two tough road trips to Scotland for the Blaze, and Caps seem to be a team that Blaze struggle against.
The three big games are the ones between the two sides. This coming weekend is pivotal in my opinion. A long road trip to the Caps for the Blaze and Panthers back in town the next night. A fair bit of bad blood left from the last game, and pretty much do or die for us.
One additional factor that may have a bearing, is our five straight home games starting on Valentines Day.

Each game just comes down to which Panthers team actually turns up to play. Playing Coventry three more times in the run in just comes down to that.

At least match Coventry fans results and beat them everytime, job done..... simple ;-)

The worrying thing about that is we have more away games than home games and our away form is patchy at best.
Only winning half our away games will not win us the league.

If you're looking at our chances, shouldn't you be thinking about Belfast too? They could still overtake us anyway, two points behind and two games in hand!

They could still overtake us anyway, two points behind and two games in hand! and the ability to take Coventry at the same time. This is not the run in it's just about the last 100 yards.Only 14 games in just a few weeks, phew.

The next five games will make or break Belfast (I think break is most likely).
Mind you, we are pretty much in the same boat!
I think it will be between us and Coventry, but will no doubt be proved wrong.

Its going to be quiet a exciting run in towards the end of the season, however i think the biggest teams to have a say, are the Panthers and Blaze of course, especially Panthers who have to host the Blaze twice at home.
Originally i counted the Giants out of the running however, 4 points for them this weekend has put them right back in the race.
I posted this on THF the other week, but mise as well post it on here too, obviously its a couple of weeks old so minus some of the fixtures etc.
Its likely to be down to the wire until the end of the season now, these next 2 weekends like what has already said have been massive.
Everyone expects Panthers to choke which is what we have seen in previous seasons however this season this is not the case and with their new guy can only see them being even more consistant. A huge run of weekends coming up for the panthers.
With 18 games remaining 16 in the league (2 x Challenge Cup Semi Final against the Sheffield Steelers) the Panthers play Steelers x 4 (2 in League, 2 in CC), Blaze x 4, Giants x 3, Stingrays x 2, Vipers x 2, Devils x 2, Caps x 1
Below is the rest of Panthers fixtures (Homes games have a time of face off)
23/01/2010 19:00:00 Sheffield Steelers Elite League - 24/01/2010 Coventry Blaze Elite League - 29/01/2010 Belfast Giants Elite League - 30/01/2010 Belfast Giants Elite League - 03/02/2010 Sheffield Steelers Challenge Cup - 06/02/2010 19:00:00 Hull Stingrays Elite League - 07/02/2010 Coventry Blaze Elite League - 10/02/2010 19:30:00 Sheffield Steelers Challenge Cup - 13/02/2010 Sheffield Steelers Elite League - 14/02/2010 16:00:00 Belfast Giants Elite League - 17/02/2010 19:30:00 Newcastle Vipers Elite League - 20/02/2010 19:00:00 Coventry Blaze Elite League - 27/02/2010 19:00:00 Cardiff Devils Elite League - 06/03/2010 19:00:00 Sheffield Steelers Elite League - 07/03/2010 Hull Stingrays Elite League - 13/03/2010 19:00:00 Coventry Blaze Elite League - 14/03/2010 Cardiff Devils Elite League -
That is quiet a bulk of the big games and most back to back weekends, i do believe by this time the league winners will have been decided, rest of Panthers fixtures below.
17/03/2010 19:30:00 Edinburgh Capitals Elite League - 20/03/2010 Sheffield Steelers Elite League - 21/03/2010 Newcastle Vipers Elite League
Blaze are for some reason becoming the Panthers of old with inconsistancy, loosing to the Capitals 3 times out of 4 games. Yet can beat the Giants 7 - 1 and have a doubl header weekend against the Devils loosing away 6 - 3 then the next night winning 6 - 2. The benefit for the Blaze is that they have no cup compeitions to add extra fixtures where as the Panthers are still in the Challenge Cup.
Blaze still have 19 games to play Devils x 3, Panthers x 4, Vipers x 1, Stingrays x 2, Giants x 3, Steelers x 2, Caps x 4
Blaze remaining fixtures look like this
23/01/10 19:00 Cardiff Devils - Coventry Blaze Elite League 24/01/10 18:00 Coventry Blaze - Nottingham Panthers Elite League 30/01/10 18:30 Newcastle Vipers - Coventry Blaze Elite League 31/01/10 18:00 Coventry Blaze - Hull Stingrays Elite League
Blaze opportuntity comes here, where if they can pick up some points during the 23/24 weekend then take 4 points during 30/31 weekend this will give them a huge boost, especially as the Panthers travel for a double header against the Giants during the same weekend. Especially as Blaze run in with clubs that could trouble Blaze begins here
06/02/10 18:00 Edinburgh Capitals - Coventry Blaze Elite League 07/02/10 18:30 Coventry Blaze - Nottingham Panthers Elite League 13/02/10 19:00 Belfast Giants - Coventry Blaze Elite League 14/02/10 18:00 Coventry Blaze - Sheffield Steelers Elite League 18/02/10 19:45 Coventry Blaze - Cardiff Devils Elite League 20/02/10 19:00 Nottingham Panthers - Coventry Blaze Elite League
If Blaze can take close to max point here (above) this could boost their title chances
21/02/10 18:00 Coventry Blaze - Edinburgh Capitals Elite League 27/02/10 17:45 Hull Stingrays - Coventry Blaze Elite League 28/02/10 18:00 Coventry Blaze - Belfast Giants Elite League 06/03/10 18:00 Coventry Blaze - Cardiff Devils Elite League 13/03/10 19:00 Nottingham Panthers - Coventry Blaze Elite League 14/03/10 18:00 Coventry Blaze - Sheffield Steelers Elite League 18/03/10 19:45 Coventry Blaze - Edinburgh Capitals Elite League 20/03/10 18:30 Edinburgh Capitals - Coventry Blaze Elite League 21/03/10 18:00 Coventry Blaze - Belfast Giants Elite League
Giants, in my opinion wont win the league this year, they are fighting at the moment, but i dont believe they will last the mile, however they are up their so i shouldnt really say that yet,
Giants have 20 remaining games Stingrays x 3, Vipers x 2, Panthers x 3, Steelers x 4, Blaze x 3, Devils x 2, Capitals x 3.
Sat 23rd Jan 10 Hull Stingrays vs Belfast Giants Elite League 5.45PM Sun 24th Jan 10 Belfast Giants vs Newcastle Vipers Elite League 6.00PM Fri 29th Jan 10 Belfast Giants vs Nottingham Panthers Elite League 7.30PM Sat 30th Jan 10 Belfast Giants vs Nottingham Panthers Elite League 7.00PM
For the Giants to stand a chance at winning the league the above 4 games they must take Maximum points to attempt to jump the Panthers and get closer to the Blaze
Thu 4th Feb 10 Belfast Giants vs Hull Stingrays Elite League (D) 7.30PM Sat 6th Feb 10 Sheffield Steelers vs Belfast Giants Elite League 7.00PM Sun 7th Feb 10 Sheffield Steelers vs Belfast Giants Elite League 6.30PM
This weekend will be huge for the Giants a double header against 1 and 2, where they can afford to drop points
Sat 13th Feb 10 Belfast Giants vs Coventry Blaze Elite League 7.00PM Sun 14th Feb 10 Nottingham Panthers vs Belfast Giants Elite League 4.00PM Wed 17th Feb 10 Cardiff Devils vs Belfast Giants Elite League 7.30PM Fri 19th Feb 10 Belfast Giants vs Sheffield Steelers Elite League 7.30PM Sat 20th Feb 10 Sheffield Steelers vs Belfast Giants Elite League 7.00PM Sat 27th Feb 10 Belfast Giants vs Edinburgh Capitals Elite League 7.00PM Sun 28th Feb 10 Coventry Blaze vs Belfast Giants Elite League 6.00PM Thu 4th Mar 10 Belfast Giants vs Hull Stingrays Elite League (D) 7.30PM Sat 6th Mar 10 Edinburgh Capitals vs Belfast Giants Elite League 6.30PM Sun 7th Mar 10 Edinburgh Capitals vs Belfast Giants Elite League 6.30PM Fri 12th Mar 10 Belfast Giants vs Cardiff Devils Elite League 7.30PM Sat 20th Mar 10 Belfast Giants vs Newcastle Vipers Elite League 7.00PM Sun 21st Mar 10 Coventry Blaze vs Belfast Giants Elite League 6.00PM
I personally believe it will go down to a 2 horse race towards mid Feb with Giants missing out on opportunities to catch up with the Blaze and Panthers.
I think the picture will look more clearer come the 7th February, when the Panthers play the Blaze in Coventry.
