Blaming DOPS for the path hockey (the game in its entirety) has taken? That's a stretch, not sure they have much pull with the NHL & IIHF. Fact is we know much more now about the long term effects of repeated brain injury, the sport was bound to protect itself. That form of the game is gone, and isn't coming back. If you don't like it, I guess you have to move on too. Dops can choose how closely to follow other leagues. They are responsible for the watering down of our league. I am slowly moving on. Too many bland games for me.

Thats a tough one.
EIHL era - Fox (honorable mention to K-wall who ended our abysmal run of goalies).
Overall - Hunt or Adey. Jinman was a blast to watch aswell.
As for tough guys Janssen or Nieckar

Where did I mention Panthers? if you think that not having the right to appeal is a good thing thats fine. If everyone agrees, it's absolutely fine. And everyone did. And everone was wrong. You should always be able to appeal what you believe to be a bad desicion. Hope Neil Black learns his lesson and doesnt put his two votes in favour of dumb rule changes in the future.

I look forward to the next meeting between the teams, should be feisty. No it wont, because who wants a ban. That day is dead im afraid. And its thanks to decissions like this.
When it comes between bans for hits that impact the head and result in brain injuries, verses allowing them with no punishment for one's entertainment, there is only going to be one winner.
Well i guess fighting will be on its way out soon aswell then.

For me this whole situation is ridiculous. And exactly whats wrong with the modern game.
I was sat opposite side to the camera in line with the goal and i thought at the time it was a good hit. The replay showed exactly what i thought i saw. Risiling make solid contact with Moseys sholder/chest. You can clearly see that Moseys head makes forward motion after contact. The PPOC was not the head. Now Mosey may have hit his head after but this should NOT be punished.
It may be that by the letter of the law this is the right call. But the law is wrong! It is crazy that a player can skate around with his head down and take zero reaponsibility for what happens.
Everyone seems to agree that Risling made every effort to make a clean hit, arms down, feet on the ice, didnt charge, went for the body. He has basically been penalised for being too big.
Im all for banning players who go out looking to nuke players with dirty hits. But this wasnt one, it was just really hard.
Players carrying the puck need to take responsibility for the positions they put themselves in. It is totally unreasonable to put all accountability on one player in these situations. The checking player cant control what the puck carrier will do at the last second.
I happen to agree that 3 games for Ulmer is dumb aswell. Players should be able to stand up for thiwr team mates. I hate the instigator rule for this reason aswell.
This and other decissins like it are eroding the sport i once loved. Its has always been a physical game and i loved the mix of aggresion speed and skill. But that game barely exists anymore. And i fear it will be completey gone in a few years.
P.s. Please that Panthers have voiced a willingness to keep the game physical.

Got a free ticket tonight and had zero expectations... thank you for proving me wrong lads.
Really enjoyable game. Stewart showed why he played in the NHL, good passes and good weight of passes. He looks like he cares which is good to see.
I really hope this isnt a one off. We were far from perfect but that was so much better. Garnett take a bow, not your biggest fan but thats why you clocked so many games in the KHL. Great positioning all game. The call on the line was 100% not in, i was in line with it.
I need to see a HD replay but my initial reaction was that the Mosey hit was clean but hard. How in the hell did Risling get an instigator though, excessive roughness maybe but in no way did he start that fight.
Really hope we kick on and play like this from now on. Goes to show that if the players shiw up the crowd will respond.

Im not a fan of knee jerk reactions but i think this is the right move. Something is clearly very wrong. The last few weeks have been dire.
Square one again in the summer then.

For all Olsen's qualities, he is only 16th in the list of defence scoring leaders, with 7+11=18. Fournier has a staggering 15+32=47, Ackered 19+17=36, Roach 3+32=35, Dallas Ehrhardt 11+21=32 and Craige 4+27=31 and there are a further nine players with 20 pts or more, all of whom have played at least three fewer games than Olsen and in four cases between 9 and 17 games fewer. This is not to disparage Olsen's all-round game in any way, more to encourage him to just shoot more often! Hang on, I thought Olsen was the best offensive dman in the league?! Hes massively overrated by some one here. Hes a decent player, but nowhere near Sauve who he replaced.

Meanwhile, back on topic. Would, I think, be a sensible move for Lacho. He's clearly "out of favour" at the moment, and frankly barely plays these days, even on the PK (was last on ice for a PP goal conceded in October, and I don't think that's because he's such an ace penalty killer they never get past him.). Started pre-season with Rheault and looked pretty good, but soon slipped down the pecking order. 2 goals all year, both in the same game. I think in the words of the legend that is Sheryl Crow, a change would do him good. About 5 years too late imo. I feel Lacho wasted his potential here.

I also believe if we were playing entertaining hockey, even in defeat that there would not be this outcry, for me that's the biggest issue, his hockey is so boring. Very much this for me. Neilson played boring stuff, and this guy is exactly the same. It was this reason that i finally turn against Corey. I hate watching dull lifeless hockey. And bloody dump and chase.

The amount of points that Kovacs has? And split up the line with Guptill? Very risky for a team that often struggles to score at all. They didn't play on the same line last night so he already split them up. I dont really like to critisise a player when they are putting points on the board but I do think Kovacs picks quite a few up due to Guptills brilliance. The way I see it is that Kovacs wil make a very simple pass and then Guptill comes up with some magic to score a goal. Kovacs then picks up a lot of cheap As. It's kind of the opposite of the Ling, Graham relationship. Graham picked up a lot of "easy" goals based on the magic of Lings pass. Perhaps I'm doing him(both him and Graham) a diservice, but for me his is an average player benefiting from playing with some real quality. To add to a point I made before, I dont think any of our forwards are bad players particularly, and when I say average I dont mean it as an insult. Simply about average for this league. I think Kovacs is underrated. Im not saying hes a world beater, hes average a lot then will make a simple but very good play that results in goals. He needs to convert some of his chances though, he blows a lot of his own shots. I would also say he makes some poor desicions in the neutral zone sometimes which has cost us goals.

Take the emotion out of it and you will see that this years team is way more stacked than the 2012/2013 team. Certainly on paper(I am very aware hockey isn't played on paper, simply refering to the point when the players were signed). On paper this team should wipe the floor with that team based on CVs. I would imagine that if you look at the imports for both those teams that on average this years roster is significantly more expensive even if you consider both in todays money. If players with the CVs of most of that team were signed to start this season this forum would be up in arms. Now part of that comes from the fact that the league as a whole is bringing in better quality and the league this year is much tougher with more competitive teams. I am currently as frustrated as most, to the point where i'm seriously considering my ST next year. I do see that we could spend even more if we chose to. The thing for me is, I dont think it'd make much difference. I have said on a number of occasions that we simply cant sign so many bad players season after season. What is it that causes so many quality players to go off the boil in Nottingham after a few months. I feel almost certain that if 80% of those players had signed in Sheffield or Cardiff we would be looking on in admiration throughout the entire season, not just September. Something causes it, what im not sure, but it certainly has something to do with this clubs rotten core. We have a new coach and little changes(Corey had become part of the problem too in my view). The fact he is forced to keep Rick and Green is one of the biggest indicators of what is wrong. Jobs for the boys at the cost of doing whats best to help the team win. I'm not questioning how nice a person anybody is, or even how good they are at their jobs, because actually I dont know that. The club did need sweeping changes though and those 2 will have been kept on because of who they are and not because of how good they are at their jobs. This is it. People who just say throw money at it are using that as a cop out. We've had the best squad on paper loads of times. There's an attitude and culture problem. And i believe its from the GM down. Personally i dont care about Neil Black, hes a light tough owner who gives us plenty of resources imo The only time we had league success was when we had players with a great attitude inspite of the club. Something is very wrong at this club.

Neither Fox nor Werner had particularly stella CVs before they came to us, certainly nothing that would look out of place on any EIHL roster. We just got lucky that they ended up being good Elite League players. Had nothing to do with spending lots of money. 100% agree.

One outside the box here.I think we're going to lose some well known Brits end of this season...,.. Then there might be a new era of sorts. Lacho needs to go he offers nothing i can see except legs. Lee as well and give Tetlow his spot, hes better. We have a bunch of forwards who just want to cycle it round the boards, its like watching a Neilson team again. The only 2 guys who are confident of turning into opposition defence men are Gutpil and Pither and they are our 2 highest points scorers. And what in earth has happened to Perlini. If we come across a team thats moderately solid defesively we look lost going forward. What i wouldnt give for a Jade Galbraith even with his off ice antics. Just some raw ability to open a team up.

This team is garbage. We clearly have some decent players but we suck as a team. We cant manage a game, and my god our passing. All a team has to do is leaving thier 2 dmen back and we cant break teams down.
Im not fussed about having any of our import dmen back. And my god can we get someone who knows how to trasition out the zone properly.
It strikes me we have no leaders. When things arent working our only plan is 'give Gutpil and hope he makes something happen'
But until things change high up in our club it'll be groundhog day. New era my ass.

This team is pathetic. Can't blame Darnell for conceeding 5 goals. No, but it's a decisive moment, and a very soft call. It changes the game massively. But our team is garbage we switch off constantly, the 4th goal is a shambles.
