Hi All, Just thought I would drop you all a line to say we have just been to our first match Toronto v Colorado. Leafs lost 4-1 but the atmosphere from start to finish was worse than a library. I must say come the 2nd period I was wishing block 11 was with us, absolutely no singing or chants, no clapping etc what a disappointment. The highlight of the night was a certain stewards asking us if we would like to meet the teams, unbelievable. We were escorted downstairs and got to meet the Avalanche players and one or two leafs, tried to see Belak but he'd done a runner..... not in the mood being as they were hammered. Off to see Buffalo and Carolina Hurricanes on Friday night and hope the atmosphere is better, then back to Toronto for Leafs v Ottawa on Tuesday. Missing you all, give the guys a big cheer from us. Luv Elaine and gangxxx p.s Keefe your needed over hear BIG TIME they would wonder what had hit them if they heard our lot singing.

You must have a look at my programme when we get back, Sakic is on the front cover and I have it signed personally by him, he was very interested to know we had just flown in from the UK for the matches. Everyone has been very welcoming. Can't wait as we are seeing Sundin on Tuesday night. I must admit its unbelievable that we come all this way and also get to meet playders you could only dream about meeting. The kids were facinated.

According to my Canadian friends, Toronto fans are notoriously quiet during games.

The game between Rangers and Sabre i saw last january in MSG had a fantastic atmosphere, mass cheering, wouldnt say there was many chants but lively all standing up on semi to full break aways, goal celebrations lasted ages too all in all a great atmosphere, and ide say the atmospere at the Devils vs Islanders wasnt much different although i was sat alot higher but there crowd all got involved there too. Must just be those pesky canadians all quiet and boring

Atmospheres in North America are never the same as in Europe, they find the idea of chanting and singing alien

i just got back from the u.s.a and when we was out there we went to see lighting v panthers. the atmosphere was a bit funny cos the only time they made any noise was at the start of each Period and the end or when they was told to . but the fan give aways wow. one lady won 3 nights stay any where in the u.s.a another won free Mobile phone bill for a year . and last off when ever Tampa score 4 or more goals every one in the rink wins a free MC chicken sandwich. do you think panthers might start that over hear hummm lol

Go to a playoff game, then you will get an atmosphere that is unlike anything in the EIHL.
As said above, I would trade NHL hockey for an average atmosphere anyday.

Thats because NHL fans live for the play offs. Take a season opener against a game 7 conference final match, then you d see the difference instantly. The next time i chose to visit Detroit, i ll make sure its in play off time, as the last time i went was in feb, even though the atmosphere wasn t that bad for 20,000 fans

Don't get a seat where your heads touching the roof.
Shell out on a lower seat - It's worth it.

That was my point.
The atmosphere instantly gets better at the Playoffs or similar in any sport.
The NHL fans don't need a good atmosphere to make the night an enjoyable experience. The hockey on show is the best in the world.
When I was at Tampa Bay, I just couldn't take my eyes off the action or concentrate on anything else apart from the hockey. I was awe struck at the speed, skill and passion on display.

Go to a Calgary game and see if you think the same way about Canadians fans being quiet. I can vouch for that - plenty of atmosphere when the Avs were in town! Not witnessed a Flames - Oilers game in the 'Dome but by all accounts they tend to be lively.

I can vouch for that - plenty of atmosphere when the Avs were in town! Ditto for Flames vs Canucks. The Saddledome is a fantastic place to watch hockey in terms of the hockey on show, the match night experience and the atmosphere. We're planning a trip over to visit the in-laws next October. We'll be sure to catch a game while we're over!

Or sell all his belongings to buy from a tout! Well i paid over the odds last time for one, but got decent seats. I expect it to be very tough come play off time when i get round to going back. Its a awesome night on game night , all the fans meet up and have a rink at hockeytown cafe, and they lay buses on to take them down to the game. ;D

I'd love to go. The north americans don't tend to chant as much in any sport really. There are no real away fans as such, because of the distance to travel. That's what starts a lot of the chanting here with the fans trying to outdo each other.

For me though the atmopshere of a game makes a massive part of it for me, the game is the main attraction obviously but i enjoy games a hell of a lot more if there is a lot of singing and chanting
