Taken from THF
I have put this on here rather than on the rumour thread as I really believe this to be true.
I have had some information passed to me today from an unofficial but trustworthy source that Newcastle, Edinburgh and Manchester are about to quit the Elite League.
Apparantly the other 6 had a secret board meeting without those mentioned and placed totally unacceptable conditions on these three clubs that they feel they have no option but to turn down the leagues ultimatums.
Apparantly Basingstoke got wind of this a few weeks ago and that just confirmed their exit.
The league appear happy to go with a 6 team league next season.
I really cannot reveal my source but those that know me, also know I am not one for rumour mongering or stirring on the forums.
I am absolutely shocked by the news and really did not see this coming
Just thought it was worth posting as all the rumours seem to be heading one way at the minute, more and more teams leaving.
I know it's a rumour but thought more people would get a chance to see it on this page

If true, good to see the EIHL are learning from the mistakes Superleague made...

Perhaps three teams wanted to cut imports/costs and the others didn't want to so there's a split along those lines. It may well be that no-one wanted to compromise.

Its true... Manchester have applied to play in the EPL and Edinburgh are to play against Paisley Braehead Pirates! No idea what will happen to the Vipers.
When i first saw the post by Tambo on the THF I called someone who would know, and they confirmed that this is infact true and has been decided for a couple of weeks.

Nick Rothwall of Sky fame seems to have given these rumours even more credibility.
Part of me is hoping this turns out to be some kind of elaborate April Fools joke, but there seems to be more and more weight behind these rumours.

also this is my post on the THF from some of the stuff you can find at companies house.
EIHL Ltd has had the following letter issued to it from Companies House -
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Companies Act 1985 (section 652)
The Registrar of companies gives notice that, unless cause is shown to the contrary, at the expiration of 3 months from 17/02/2009 the name of EIHL Ltd will be struck off the registar and company disolved.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Companies House is a little difficult to take as solid sometimes without knowing what the companies registered name is.
There is an Ice Hockey LTD registered to - 8 marine parade, penarth, Vale of Glamorgan.
Ice Hockey UK Ltd is registered in Sheffield and its accounts were due YESTERDAY!
There is a company registered as Elite League Ltd but that company is dormant at present.
There were alot of names registered when the EIHL came to play by the people behind the BNL. Alot of shaddyness has gone on in the past, and that now makes it difficult to know if the EIHL is even registered as that.
If it is one of the above, then it isnt very promising.

I really don't know what to make of these rumours. There's been so much talk about teams dropping out recently that there has to be some weight behind all of this, surely.

Wow, never knew that. How did you find that one out?

I've written a small article on The Cat's Whiskers (LINK) copying the original post by Tambo from here (I haven't named Tambo in the article) and asking questions for people within the Elite League to answer. I'll let you know if there is any reply from the league.

Perhaps three teams wanted to cut imports/costs and the others didn't want to so there's a split along those lines. It may well be that no-one wanted to compromise. That's what I've heard, too... that 3 teams said "this is what must happen" (presumably after meeting amongst themselves first?) and the other 6 seem to be to some extent opposed to it, meeting amongst themselves later on. Sounds to me like the same old egos and politics... each side may well have some good points to their arguments - although I hesitate to imagine any of them being what could be called completely "right"- but decide to adopt the old trench warfare approach. In other words, SSDD... British ice hockey being as dumb as ever.

Or maybe it isn't that they can't agree because of egos, maybe the 6 teams simply cannot do business with the demands that the 3 have. Maybe the 6 genuinely don't think that following the 3's demands would work for the league, and they may well be right. Maybe it isn't as simple as each side being stubborn.

That could equally be the case... who knows? And despite the inevitable entrenched opinions and taking of sides that will occur amongst various fan groups, yet again I doubt it's going to be so clear-cut as to say that one bunch are The Good Guys in all of this and that the other lot are The Bad Guys. Six of one, half a dozen of the other? Or this could mostly/all be a load of cobblers. Who knows?

It's never been simple, demographics in the UK aren't exactly suited to EIHL hockey as is current. If the import level went down there would be an uproar between anonymous internet message board users, and on the flip side we have this situation where the "stable" teams realise this would happen therefore don't wish to bring the level down meaning less "stable" teams have to defect to the lower leagues in order to stay competitive/make a profit and again we have an unhappy customer. Seems to be an intricate balancing act that I wager 90% of members here think they could sort out fairly easily.

I don't like to buy into the whole 'there's no smoke without fire' but you've got to admit, there's a pants (I didn't put that) load of smoke and it's coming from a pretty warm source
Putting two and two together, you'd have a bet there's fire behind this rumour, as much as I'd like to all hope it's an early april fool

Even though its a rumour, its a really bad time for rumour like this to come out! Just before the biggest weekend of the year, that is ment to be a celebration, but the most part of it now will be dominated by this whole story!
With the news coming from Tambo originally, and then me speaking to someone who has always got it right, i can see this one being official. I hope its not, but when im being told that the Phoenix have applied for a place in the EPL fact.... well thats worrying on its own!

The rumour on it's own Keefe is pretty unbelievable to be honest, it's only when you look into it and there are a fair few reliable people backing it up that it gets scary, very scary. I'd imagine it will be a difficult one for the EPL if the Mancs have applied. They would be a very competitive side in the EPL with a good fanbase behind them, only problem being there so far north.
