I really do tend to find some panthers fans so arogant. People expect us to walk into every game and walk out with all the points without breaking sweat and when it goes wrong its the end of the world and the fingers start pointing ( until we start to win again and the blamers are still there but no where near as many ). on top of that i find it insulting to the other teams in the league to be disgusted when we dont easily beat such quality teams as phoenix . I am well aware this post wont go down well but thats what this place is about people airing there views. I am and always will be a panthers fan but i am realistic and ok we made some mistakes in this season but still think we have the potential to be the team to beat. I look forward to the critacism and hopefully some people agree. Exactly friend , people also airing their views but I won't say your moaning. We understand that Panthers may have tried hard yet to be a title winner we have not showed this. Sheffield have only lost 10 games of which 7 went into OT and gained an extra point.Thats 13 poits lost from 80. I'm still here on the forum but not to aim my concerns at posters who want to say the positive. I don't claim that people are wrong for what they say, although I may debate the opposite. I'm just pointing out that it always seems a struggle for Panthers.

At the end of the day we won 4-2 and if that meant playing well for only 10-15 mintues to do so then so be it, we got the 2 points and that is all that matters at the end of the day. We did what we needed to do.

Ah well!! That was a very very nice end to a game! Think the reason behind the 1st goal dispute was that Dunn was let out of the Peno box to early by the penalty stripey and thus when he exited he was on his own and clear to shoot as noone saw him there...thats what i wwas told by a steward who was standing over the players bench anyways.. There cant have been to many men on the ice from them as it would have made it 5 on 3. Anyyways we played great in the 1st peroid. Was in there zone at least 75% of the time. Then it was an even 2nd with them hitting us when we had lsot concentration withe the hoo har about the goal.. £rd changed the lines abit and the opertunitys fell to us and we put them away... Nice though for it to happen to us for a change.. Galbraiths goal was a top shelf rocket! Bergins 2 where being at the right place at the right time and coreys ENG.. Last 20 or so seconds Robo lost his stick so had a bit of squeeky bum time with that... There player missed a sitter at theis point and had half a net open to him and relived he fluffed his shot.. Enjoyable time in Alty though.. Nice to get a 4 pointer

Hill did alright. Our defence is a lot more solid now Danny can be paired (most of the time) with an import D man. I didn't notice many struggles to clear the zone that we've had in other games.

and thats the difference, they are happy that they have secured the most important thing which is the 2 points.
They are pretty much coasting to the league title now, if doesn t admit to that , then they re seriously deluded

Just got back from the game, & am delighted. We had to battle hard for this win, Stephen Murphy was awesome & i thought nothing was goin to get passed him. We dug deep though & came through when it matted. Well done boys.

tinyurl.com/NEP-ReportGreat game. Didn't think it was going to happen the way Murphy was playing - and commented as much when he denied Tess with a superb glove save mid way through the last period. We didn't panic though, kept our shape and stuck to the game plan, and after Jade's superb first-timer, Bergin finished the move of the match for the second, and we deserved the luck that went with his 2nd as it bounced in off Dunn. The goings on at the end of the 2nd period are explained in the NEP report. Dunn and Galbraith are sitting minors for "unsportsmanlike conduct" and we are 4 on 4: Toneys is then sin-binned, leaving it as 4 on 3. Levers is also sin-binned, but as we are already down to 3 his penalty won't start counting down until Jade's is over. When Jade and Dunn finish their 2 minutes only Dunn should have been allowed back on, to let the Levers penalty start, and give Phoenix a 5 on 3, but the Penalty box judge in the Panthers' box got it wrong and let Jade out. I understand a Lino spotted this, but rather than whistling to stop play to sort it out, compounded the error by telling Jade to get to the bench, or he would be penalised again. Jade did as instructed, but the other Panthers on the ice weren't aware, and thought Jade was marking Dunn, who was left all alone to skate in and score. Thanks to the grit and determination shown in the third period it didn't matter in the end, but was another example of poor officiating (on and off the ice). I'm sorry, but Dean Smith is just not good enough, and one of these days he will lose control of a game in a big way (as he nearly did in Cardiff last week).

Another example of game very nearly ruined by poor refereeing, step forward Mr Smith who made a hash of almost everything that came his way.
Panthers edged a poor first period which had a few of us wondering about the condition of the ice, I've never seen so many players slip over or miscontrol the puck. Stephen Murphy was the busier of the two netminders but neither side really created any clear cut chances.
The second was a parade to the penalty box as Smith seemed intent on calling the little things but missing the big ones including a high stick that left Luke Boothroyd with blood pouring from his nose and another that felled Matt Myers in front of the net but was not called. Panthers wasted a golden chance 5 on 3 when Luke Fulghum inexplicably fired the puck over the boards to give them almost a minute on the two man advantage. But Murphy stood strong and it was the Phoenix turn to threaten, David Beauregard's shot deflecting off the crossbar via Robinson's shoulder.
But after that lucky escape a mad minute at the end of the period looked at though it would cost the Panthers.
Alex Dunn stepped out the box to score in controversial circumstances, beating Michel Robinson with a wrist shot high to the glove side after Jade Galbraith had mistakenly been allowed to return to the ice, then told to leave the ice by the linesman, allowing Dunn a free walk in on Robinson.
With the Panthers still fuming, Lucas Burnett doubled the lead, shooting a loose puck over Robinson's shoulder just 20 seconds later. Neilson called a time-out to steady his side and see them through to the second intermission.
The Phoenix looked intent on shutting the game down in the third but the Panthers, inspired by the relentless fore-checking of Myers and Dan Tessier, who had been taunted throughout by the Phoenix faithful, dragged the Panthers back into the game.
Tessier was brilliantly denied by the glove of Murphy, who plucked his goalbound slapshot out of the air but the British netminder had no chance moments later as Galbraith's one-timer screamed into the net over his left shoulder, leaving a trail of smoke behind it.
Then great interplay between Tessier, Johan Molin and Kevin Bergin saw the big man slide a low finish beyond Murphy to tie the game, to the jubilation of a noisy Nottingham travelling support. Panthers had their tails well and truly up and on the next attack Bergin threw a centring pass across the crease and it deflected past Murphy of Dunn's skate.
The Phoenix looked deflated but still threw everything at the Panthers, Robinson making an excellent blocker save to deny Beauregard before Corey Neilson iced the win with a long range empty netter as time ticked down.
Two points, but is it too late?

Two points, but is it too late? Excellent write up on the game, was an entertaining game throughout and we played well, Murphy was excellent in goal again for the Phoenix and we had by far the better of the 1st period. Phoenix first goal was a farce, we were complaining that Galbraith shouldnt have been let out of the box so we were complaining that we had too many men on the ice! It looked like it could all kick off towards the end of the 2nd, Bruce richardson was making a nuisance of himself winding up the Phoenix bench with his chicken dances (I love the guy, he's just the player we need). Corey earnt his money in the second break IMO, he was able to calm the players down who were clearly rattled by the 1st goal. 3rd period was great, we stuck to the game plan and when Galbraiths goal went in we got the momentum and there was only one winner. 2nd goal was pure quality, third was lucky went in off a Phoenix skate. We were helped in part by Boothroyds injury (can we have him next season, he was excellent on D) and Garbutt apparently has severe bronchitis and could hardly stand after the game. I guess Phoenix just tired badly at the end. Just a note to whoever decides to comment on us turning up for the last 10 minutes last night and getting a win, youre talking out of your back bottom mate, try going to the game instead of basing a judgement on stats on ih-update. This was a really good, chippy, in your face type performance and they came good despite feeling hard done by. They could have easily caved in but they didnt. Well done lads.

For example Phoenix have parris injured but cannot replace him due to a lack of cash, something that panthers as one of the so called big spenders do not lack... Given that we can outspend any problems encountered then isnt it a surprise the fans are a little arrogant that we should be able to beat the lower spending teams? Also if we compare ourselves to the other four (especially sheffield) we see their results and then anticipate that it is not unreasonable to be able to at least match them... No?... Also i will add, speaking to tambo at the game in nottm it is partly the fact that being bridesmaid continually given that in the past teams like storm, knights eagles and before them the steelers and devils have bought their way to league titles, it is no brain buster that now panthers can be big spenders we as fans would like to think we should get a turn... is it?

And so would i Messier but that isnt the point i was making...
It isnt the fact they cant spend its the fact panthers can yet they cant beat these teams regularly and still underachieve year on year... And that we as a fanbase get called arrogant for having an attitude that we have more money to spend and so should have better players and so should be beating them....

Interesting to note from posters who had been to the game and in the NEP report that Manc seem to fade badly in the last period in both games, and did so against the Coventry fans a few weeks ago. Hope still yet, if we do have them in the first round of the play offs.

Hope still yet, if we do have them in the first round of the play offs. Equally important last night was the switch to two all import forward lines and a Brit forward line. Good though our Brits are, Marc Levers has one goal in his last 31 games, Matt Myers isn't a natural sniper (his goals tend to be hard worked) and Clarke, before his injury, was in a bit of a scoring slump. Count how many times a chance is created and it falls to the 'wrong' guy.
