watching the sky game this week and mr simm's said that panthers are looking for a new forward. any one know any thing Neilson would not be doing his job if he didnt continue to keep an eye on who is avialable. I would suggest every coach is looking at potential signings, even though some would deny it. HL

Bergin is good at what he does, but i don't want him to become an out and out "enforcer" Thing is if Bergin was TOLD you are our out and out enforcer every game and that was what he concentrated on he could do a job. Fair enough he wouldnt win but he fights to hurt, and that would pump everyone up on the bench and in the stands. He will never be up there with Corny, Cloots and co but he has proved he can give a good account of himself

As a fighter Bergin is as good as anyone in the league imo, it's when he'd be dropping the gloves with guys who are 6'5 and 230lbs on a regular basis that he'd start losing.
Bergin is a perfect back up guy, can beat anyone on his day, point per game player, adds a good level of toughness to his line and can also play D.
Why when we have the perfect back up enforcer would we want to make him our out and out enforcer? If Ndur is not going to be fit for a long time or is leaving for another job then we need an enforcer, whether it's a forward in the Craighead mould or a D-man in the Ndur mould I don't care, but we do need an enforcer.
Next season I'd like to see two big d-men like Munn and Timmons, Bergin to stay and an enforcer like Craighead. That way we'd be extremely tough but also capable of playing hockey and then no fans could whinge about player A only being able to fight. The guys could share the fighting between them and the Craighead type could handle the top guys meaning all the fighting would be shared out and nobody would have to spend considerable time in the box. Plus with such a tough team most teams would shy away from the rough stuff anyway

Before he fights he becomes garbage. He cant concentrate on 2 things at once. He either plays ok or he fights.

I'd chalk him down as a fighter who's at his best when the red mist decends, but enforcing ...?

Sorry I might not have made it clear, I agree with what your saying and that's why I don't want him as our main enforcer. A back up who may fight seven/eight times throughout the season but not our go to guy by any means

forwards are meant to score not fight!!! we don't need an enforcer we need a goalscorer or playmaker. We have enough goal scorers and playmakers. Arguably in tess one of the best in league. Molin as well if fit. The squad looked good early on. You cant replace Ndur with a lightweight and expect the chemistry to be the same. Its not a problem with the balance of the team but a problem with the player himself. In that situation itd make sense to swap like for like (as we have done with Molin to the best we can) (and we are back onto the same argument again)

Voth would be the perfect example of an Enforcer and Goal/points scorer.
This guy puts up reasonable numbers, puts in hard shifts, fights and winds up anyone and everyone.
He is a power forward who enforces. He seems to be able to do two jobs at once, i'de like a player of his nature on our side anyday. Infact i'de take Voth in a flash. Perhaps there is someone out there we could get. I hope so i really do.
Perfect example here in his stats ......................................GP. G. A. PT. Pen MIn 2005-06 Cardiff Devils EIHL 45 9 12 21 263 2006-07 Cardiff Devils EIHL 41 11 11 22 253 2007-08 Cardiff Devils EIHL 58 29 17 46 314 2008-09 Cardiff Devils EIHL 24 5 12 17 198

I agree a Voth style player would be perfect. It all depends who this mystery guy will be replacing though and how much is in the kitty.
We cant carry an out and out enforcer but if we rely on Bergin as our enforcer for the rest of the season we risk dropping the team morale and spirit and could drop points to teams who go out and push us around.
Weve got enough toughness with Bergin but we need more of an idiot who will go out and get in peoples faces and back it up and give the team a buzz. Bruce Richardson is a good example but going into the back stretch of the season we need him playing hockey and we could do with someone a bit bigger really. Either that or tell Bergin hes carrying the team toughness and he needs to change his role because as has been said, he cant do both.

If Ndur is leaving then I think Timmons would be well worth a look. H e was released from a team in the Dutch league not so long ago.
He's not a top tier heavy by any means but he can fight with the best of them, stands up for his team mates and provides a physical presence on the ice which along with Bergin would get us through the season.
If it stays at ten imports next season I'd like to seeing at least four big guys in the team who can fight but also play and one of them to be a top heavy

Hence the reason Sheffield hate Voth but try to sign him every year. Back to this new forward Simmsy says we are after............I wonder if we have enquired about Cruikshank once Gillies is fit again. Would make sense why Simmsy knows about it but its not been mentioned elsewhere.

We need scorers and playmakers??? What team are you talking about? We have lots of scorers and lots of playmakers.

Timmons and Munn being good examples, yes Munn is probably on a decent wage but that's because he's a top d-man, he wouldn't need to fight at all on an already tough team but would add nicely to the intimidation. Timmons I'd guess would be an average earner, tough and a steady d-man, there must be a decent amount of those sort of guys out there. Well if there aren't ten imports then unless the cost of tickets is cheaper which I doubt, then I won't be going much anyway With possibly anywhere between twenty and fifty new British players needing to be pumped into the league to make up the numbers and not being able to afford the same level of imports due to the value of the pound I can see the standard plummeting. One thing will be interesting though, to see if people who are very pro British players icing more and more are happy to pay £15 to go and watch them

Another problem could be that the better brits go to mainland europe, the pull of the euro against the pound.
