Nigel Clough has left Burton Albion to become the new manager of Derby County.
Clough said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for me and one that I relish. "I know the club inside out. It has always had a special place in mine and my family's heart, and I know that this is one of the most exciting jobs in football."
Blimey! Clough turns down Forest and takes the Derby job.

I thought i read he was approached but said he was happy at Burton perhaps it was journalistic license!
I think anyway Billy Davies will do a better job for you than Cloughie could!

Billy davies is a safer bet, on the face of it, Nigel Clough is high risk tbh, it took him 10 years to get burton to where they are, i doubt Derby fans will have the same patience to get them in the prem. Davies knows whats required

What doesn't make sense for me is the point that he left a club, who are 10 points clear at the top of the conference and look pretty certain to gain league status (for I think the first time in their history) to join a Championship team that are clearly struggling. Now without experience of the Championship, surely it's going to take him a while to adjust. I don't begrudge Nigel going to Derby at all. He clearly believes he is ready for the next challenge so fair play to him. I just don't understand how you can leave a job that is totally secure, with a very good chance of achieving something with Burton that no-one else has. On the other hand, it could be a cunning plan to take Derby down (I'm kidding of course)

It was on BBC East Midlands Today and in the Mirror and the Daily Mail that I know to that he was on the shortlist. For what it's worth, I think that as underwhelmed as some Forest fans may be, Billy Davies is a good manager who is proven at this level and could, if given the right backing, be a valuable asset to the once-proud Forest.

The Panthers don't do league titles. Not even Carlsberg can manage that!

Nigel was never in a position to take the Forest job. Sam and then Billy were Doughty's targets apparently. Doughty would not replace one young boss with an even less experienced boss.
Derby fans are mixed on this. No matter how you cut it he's got the job because of who his dad was. He's not got it on merit. He doesn't even have a playing past with the club.
If it goes wrong he'll have his Forest past thrown at him. Billy has the same problem with Reds fans but at least Billy has experience behind him.

If he wasnt Brian Cloughs son, then nobody above League One at best would consider him.
Working part time at a non-league club for ten years, without an awful lot to show in the trophy cabinet does not really make him a stand out candidate.
As has already been said, he has no experience of the Championship so will need longer to adjust to the players required at that level etc, and Derby have said there is no money available to him.
An almighty gamble by Derby.

Yes i am sure, Clough jnr was never considered as he didn t have the required experience. It was to be expected that he d be linked with us through various newspapers but all it ever was were rumours
