Today in block 219 i have seen something i hoped i would never see at a hockey game,.
In the third period a group of young lads came and sat there blatently with the intention of causing trouble.
All through the game we had been having good banter with the panthers fans around us to the point we were invited for a drink with them tomorrow.
However this group of boys came to start trouble not just with steelers but with a panther family as well.
They refused to sit even when ask and purposely blocked as many people views as possible. They were being very desciptive about sexual activity with a young panther family in front again not happy.
I am a 24 year old girl and when i asked if they minded sitting down i was asked if i was coming to the game tomorrow when i said yes, i was told if i didnt shut the hell up i wouldnt be going anyway. They were swearing and being agressive.
This was about 3 out of the group of 7-8.
Security eventually came and asked them to move then 5-6 of them along with a couple of steelers fans had a mass fight injuring security by punching them and leading to the police being called.
This was a small group from both clubs but i hope for the sake of the sport the lot of them are banned froim all games. The sport does not need this kind of support.
It was a disgrace!!!

Sadly it seems, all clubs appear to have their idiots.
Good to see you're here to post your thoughts.
Hopefully you'll have a trouble free night at the NIC tomorrow.

No one got arrested and the 2 lads that were involved aren’t from block 4. from the information you give either you are speculating or you know them - if it is the later then I hope you are ashamed of them - if not then you are as bad as them and not welcome in the hockey fraternity

All I will say is there were more than 1 incident tonight so lets not all get on our high horse, theres 3 sides to every story and more than one story from tonights game

lets read what monty said shall we? did he say that the block 4 lads were involved?
no.
from what i can read and understand, he said he's had a run in with them before. i think he was making the statement about the fact that panthers fans can be bad to their own fans (just as i saw in 202 today too, but thats unrelated to this thread) and neither side just have angels.

also, to address the rest of the thread, how can anyone be as naive to say that they speak for the entire 'hockey fraternity'? nobody speaks for me. it may have been a lapse in judgement and people losing their cool in the heat of the moment that led to this incident. should these folk be banned and made unwelcome to any further games? i dont think so, but i would rather it didnt happen again.

Arrests were made outside I believe after some 'fans' were caught red-handed by the police kicking dents in car doors.

Arrests were made outside I believe after some 'fans' were caught red-handed by the police kicking dents in car doors. Not the people involved in the steward incident so thats a third incident which happened

We were on a coach with the block 4 lads tonight - they were having words with the stewards after the game and they were in the middle of the incident on the steps in 219, but i walked from the arena to the bus with them, and definately wasn't kicking any car doors in! Whether this was a seperate incident i don't know, but wasn't the block 4 lot. Jamie

WE on the other hand, despite having been roundly beaten in the HOS, had a lovely Christmas drink in the Arena Square at the bottom of the car park with our Steeler friends Bob and Sue. And are looking forward to doing the same in the Bunkers about 6.30 tomorrow!
It's not all doom and gloom you know - he says quickly going out to check the door panels on his car!!
That said, cool often gets lost in the heat of the moment, but there is no excuse for resorting to any form of violence between fans. The Hockey community has a great record for this, so I hope all those involved in the instigation of any trouble tonight between either set of fans, are thoroughly ashamed of themselves, and indeed anyone who has any infomation about the perpetrators steps up to the plate and speaks to the relevant authorities.
Unfortunately if you are the type of person who likes to cause 'aggro' at sporting fixtures then you are unlikely to be ashamed, or indeed feel any remorse.
I was going to say 'Let other sports have their hooligans, we need to keep things the way they have always been,' but to be honest, that element should be kicked out of all sports!

the thing is markus people are only human at the end of the day and if thats the reaction that occurs then so be it, you are telling me that you have never ever wanted to give someone a dig because they have provoked you enough, we are all human and some people make errors in judgement
***** fwiw i was not at the game so do not know who did what or what occurred just putting my opinion forward on the general issue*****

Whatever happened tonight is a disgrace. It doesn't matter who started it (no one seems to actually know the full details on each incident anyways) people shouldn't have let it go that far. I honestly hope nothing kicks off at tomorrows game, we shouldn't let a few idiots ruin a good night at the ice hockey.

Spence, fully agee mate, I know as well as anyone how easy it is to get wound up to the point of distraction, such that you just want to have a dig - we are, as you say, only human.
But being human also comes with it's own set of responsibilities and values that we are all expected to uphold and unfortunately what certain members of society lack is a subscription to these values and any sense of self control or consequence.
This is of course generaly intensified by the amounts of alcohol consumed.
Don't get me wrong, I've had my moments of anger at hockey games, Cruickshank felt the rough end of my tongue as he flounced his way out of the arena, and bearing in mind my size/volume and the fact that he was only about 12 feet away, I am pretty sure he heard me.
But what I shouted wasn't offensive, and I made sure it contained NO swear words. But then I was driving back to Notts tonight. Maintaining the same level of insult with out being offensive might have been slightly harder with a few 'Shefield 2 pint jugs' in me, but I would like to think I would have managed it.
But back to my first point, IF, and only IF the trouble was caused by younger fans, in my opinion it is because of a lack of any direct and unpleasant consequence. If, at the first sign of identifiable trouble they had been warned that if it continued they would be thrown out, and then if it did continue they WERE thrown out, but more to the point if they KNEW this would happen, then they would be highly likely to stop, because if they didnt then they would be out in the cold until the game finished and everyone could get together for the journey home.
Perhaps the stewards at these events could be a little more vigilant in the amounts of alcohol they sell to people who are behaving in a rowdy manner. They wouldnt get served in a pub if they behaved that way, so why do the Arena (both home and away) still serve people who are incapable of holding their ale?
Lets be honest, youth and inexperience (or indeed age and experience) plus copious amounts of alcohol is going to lead to rowdy behaviour, now, in a party setting this is going to be a good laugh with a whole lot of fun for everyone.
Take away the party and add instead losing at an important sporting fixture and a lack of any discernable unpleasant consequence, and what you have is extemely nasty and fun for no one.
But, just my opinion....
And as Clint Eastwood said - 'Opinions are like ar$e-holes, everyones got one....'
(Just a note for anyone wishing to quote the great Mr Eastwood, don't use that particular quote in a Junior School staff meeting, it really doesn't go down well!!!)
