Is it me or has he not had much of an impact (if at all) to say he was the star signing?
Obvioulsy, we all see the game differently and I hope he improves and i hope his injury isnt anything remotley serious, so if anyone else thinks differently, please inform me.
I'm not having a go at Rod........just that he hasnt impressed me yet.......

GOD matt jesus on the back of yet another player already, as a team we are great, working together as a unit, passing, scoring (though not many against manchester) and as a team yes TEAM stevens has done his part, worked hard, it was unfortunate that he injured himself on a breakaway that ended with him clattering into their goaltender/net.
Either way will you guys just get off ALL the players backs until a time when such as 10 games in where all players have settled and maybe ome weakness in certain players game can be identified and picked up on. until then and a time we have dropped more than 1 point, LEAVE off all the players and be thankful we have a hard working, point scoring team to watch and enjoy!
As for stevens it's too early to say anything about him, and now he's injured it will be alittle longer before anyone can pass judgement!

I'd say Ree's has made less of an impact.

I'd say Ree's has made less of an impact. That's because he's a stay-at-home D-man... the least noticeable player on the ice unless he gets it wrong - if you don't notice him, then he's probably doing his job right.

I'd say Ree's has made less of an impact. rees is awesome, you don't notice him because he never makes an error the only time i have noticed him in 2 games one in bracknell and tonight was when he fanned on a shot and stevens is doing whats needed eg hard work he will find his scoring touch but at the moment the lines are all messed up with cooke injured, meyers and moran injured

Stevens is doing all the hard , little things in the opposiitons offensive zone that allow others to make the big impact plays, he's doing fine for me, the injury last night was very unfortuate, but he has w eek to recover with no serious game tonight, hpoefully its not serious.

Stevens is a very unassuming player who works his socks off for the other forwards. Clarke being our top scorer is no coincidence. If you watch Stevens he draws defenders away from the play, is very unselfish with the puck. A lot of our goals have been scored from where there was no d coverage simply because Stevens has worked the defender and drawn him out of position. His stats suggest he hasnt been succesful thus far, but he has given 110% every game and is a definite asset for the team. HL

A) I already said I wasnt having a go, simply that he hasnt had the impact I expected...........so maybe you should have some reading lessons! B) "On the back of another player"?? Who elses back have I been on?? I believe I was one of the ones saying lay off Evan Lindsay!

Thats great, thanks. Someone doing what I asked and giving their opinion!!! Its hard to notice all 16 players, some stand out more than others depending on your own out look of the game. ashotinthedark = the only one who can read properly!

"Is it me or has he not had much of an impact (if at all) to say he was the star signing?" that there was your dig at him whatever way you look at it.
I dont wanna get into a fight with you over this matt, but clearly after 3 games there is no need to say anything about any player along the lines of he was meant to be a star, or he's playing c**p or anything from anyone.
That post earlier was more fustration at everyone who has jumped onto the back of any player so early in the season so dont take it too personally matt.
As for the reading lessons, wanna make this a personal attack take it off the boards!

he didnt say he was playing crap...
To be honest I hadnt really seen him that much. When we signed him I was expecting a more big show type player with fancy moves (in a similar mould to tess)
To say he hasnt had a massive impact isnt a dig. Its an observation.

I'm liking Rod Stevens! 110% everyshift, taking D men out of play and letting other players have more freedom the zone

So, Rod Stevens isn't having the desired impact? ? Makes me wonder what he's got to do. If his injury IS serious enough to see him missing a couple of games, I'm sure you'll see a weaker team because of it. ... But then again, next week we're away in Edinburgh, so most of the whingers WONT see a weaker team, will they?! Get off the guy's back.

no one IS on his back. All we are saying is thathe isnt the big impact player. Yes we will see a weaker team for losing who said we wouldnt?
Why has everyone got a monkey on their back about it? He does a job and he does it well, but players like Neilson and Simoes and Clarkie all make themselves more noticed, As I said its not a BAD thing cos looking back he is working hard and doing a great job but I expected a star igning such as him to be a bigger (personality and playing wise).
Im NOT slagging him off

Christ, even i'm not on the back of anyone just yet! Stevens hasn't been too bad at all, his problem is that the likes of Clarke, Simoes and the Scottish Lion have started excellently

the team have won 2 lost 1 on penalty shots and sit top of the league at present so to me all the players are doing ther jobs correctly and doing what M.E has wanted them to do as long as we keep winning everyone is doing there bit

Ok, guys, this is my point:
He was probably THE star signing and looking at his scoring record over the last few seasons I expected him to be a goal scorer over here. But he hasnt. I cant really remember him having many chances.
However, it has been pointed out that he's doing all the hard, dirty work and pulling people out of position etc.......... which, if that is his game then fair enough.
As I mentioned, everyone see's different things from different players, depending on the individuals out look on the game of hockey and its hard to notice every player.
No ones having a dig at anyone.....was merely an observation.

I thought that the whole philosophy was not to go down the 'star player' route, but to have a selection of players who can step up to the plate and start swinging (so to speak...). Stevens is just one of them - so equally, in my view, are Clarke, Simoes, MacAslan, Neilson and Krajicek at the very least. We're 3 games in. 3 games out of 54 (56 if you count the two CC games against Sheffield). At some point or another, I fully expect all of the above to be dominant. No more Tessiers, Ivans, Drouins.... no more prima-donna 'star' players.... give me a TEAM any day. And that looks to me like exactly what we've got. Someone said in the game thread from last night that last season's team would have given up against that Manchester team (and that brick wall of a netminder they've got)... and I think they were right. Stevens not looking like a star player? I'll take that.....

Argh Jeesh everything I was gonna say Shaggy has written, weve got to stop agreeing on things im getting scared.
Back in the old days (Stay with me its not a grandad story) We had a team full of good players, but all worked hard for the badge. We didnt have these players who used us to go to bigger things or for a quick paypacket we had depth and rolled 3 solid lines. This season we are getting back to that.
Long may it continue. So far iv been to 3games and felt iv got value for money, thats more than the whole of last season I reckon

people see things differently. for me the first few games of the season are always difficult to watch, when there are so many new players and this year we have alot of new guys to watch. at the bison game i only really noticed Krajicek, yet my hubby only seemed to notice Simoes.

I thought Neilson was THE star signing. I thought that Baz, then again any import signing could be classed as the star signing. I'm going back to my classic case Tvrdon was annouced as the star player from 04/05 as he had played for the Washington Capitals in the NHL the previous year, and due to injury he was realesed. and KK just another winger from the ECHL not a bad goal scorer, then goes on to be 2nd highest goal scorer in the team, and was Paul Adeys MVP from that season.
