From today's Hull Daily Mail:
EXCEL Hull Stingrays' Rick Kozak will play this weekend, after having his 10-match ban cut to six games.
The 23-year-old was suspended after an altercation with Nottingham's Marc Levers, which left the Panther needing 20 stitches in a head wound.
Stingrays initially failed to have the ban overturned on appeal, but a further Elite League meeting has agreed the ban should be reduced to six matches.
The supplementary 10 games - only to be served if the forward is found guilty of sucker-punching or bringing the game into disrepute again this season - have now been split into six for each offence.
Team owner Mike Pack welcomed the league's decision and said: "We would not have gone to appeal if we didn't believe the original suspension was harsh, so clearly I am pleased it has come back closer to what I thought the offence merited.
"The whole appeals process had complexities in it which resulted in the whole process needing further review."
Kozak has now served all six games and so takes his place in Stingrays' line-up, adding spice to Saturday's clash against Nottingham Panthers at Hull Arena.
Fans are already anticipating fireworks between Stingrays' forward and Panthers' enforcer Rumun Ndur, who made his presence felt in the now notorious battle at Nottingham.
Ndur escaped without a ban for his punch-up with Stingrays' duo Jake Riddle and Stuart Kerr.
"I suppose it's a coincidence we're playing the Panthers" said Pack.
"I'm sure it will be a distraction from a fan's point of view, and I expect it will not be a surprise if something was said on the ice.
"However, we will be concentrating on securing the points, whoever we are playing."
With Kozak returning, it should dampen speculation the former NHL draft is ready to quit the club.
One website has even run a poll on who will be next to leave Stingrays, prompted by Jon Bernier quitting and Jake Riddle being axed.
"I'm very aware fans are going through some sort of fantasising about all sorts of issues about the club" said Pack.
"I find it unbelievably amusing, it's one of the highlights of my week.
"Seriously, I have not got a crystal ball, but I'm not aware of any player considering leaving.
"It's fascinating the partners of some of the names being bandied about are arriving this week, and that would indicate the players are fairly happy here."

a completely spineless act from the league but tbh i'm glad his first game back is against us, quick retribution ( a toe to toe fight, not a similar act from one of our players) and i'm a bit gutted i'll be missing this game now.

What a farce. The EIHL look even more like a bunch of bleedin' incompetent amateurs. No wonder the sport doesn't develop & prosper in this country. TIN POT LEAGUE

Kozak is such a half wit he will offend again and get another 6 game ban anyway.

How does the league justify making a decision, reviewing and ratifying it and then back-tracking at exactly the right time time to create the most potentially explosive situation imagineable? Beggars belief.

This is a total joke, how can this happen when the appeal has been heard and upheld. I will tell you how; Eamon Convery & the E.I.H.L. Board (team owners)
This shows complete disrespect for the disciplinary committee and the players that get injured (Mark Levers) by such dangerous acts, these bans are supposed to prevent.
It was said over the summer (by Convery) that the disciplinary committee would be free from any outside intervention; this has now been proven to be a complete lie. If this is not outside intervention, I don’t know what is !!
Also the whole Thornton affair stinks, two weeks to make a decision is disgraceful. Professional sport, your having a laugh. Convery & the rest of the E.I.H.L board are now influencing results through their complete incompetence.
It’s now official E.I.H.L = Beer League.

So the league have back-stepped again.
I wonder if the £2,000 appeal charges have been returned?
Also begs to ask the question, what about Cruckshank's ban. I understand he has now completed his 5 game ban (missing all 5 games), does this mean that he is owed a couple back if he re-offends again?

Awesome. Zukiwskyfan is smiling. Forget Kalmikov now the game is worth going to. If the score gets out of hand we should go out and hurt a couple of their players too just to prove a point. Saturday should be a war and now I cant wait.

Anybody think that Convery has got involved in this so as to oil the wheels in relation to a reduction in Thornton's ban? As it stood a reduction in Thornton's ban would look like favouritism unless a comensurate reduction was forthcoming on Kozak, and I would expect Voth.

now now Mark there is a conspiracy theory... bloody good one though It's ridiculous that people with a vested interest in the participating clubs have any say in disciplinary matters. The system is wide open to abuse and manipulation and therefore speculation as to the real reason behind the crazy decisions that the EIHL make. Anyone remember the the excessive ban Barry Nieckar got for essentially removing his shirt? Wasn't Convery involed in that decision?

I'd have said 6 was fair for what he did personally (just my opinion of course), but by backing down from upholding their decision at appeal, they've made themselves look completely clueless. They need to sort that whole process out though, get it working quicker so we don't have players playing for weeks while on appeal etc. Also begs to ask the question, what about Cruckshank's ban. I understand he has now completed his 5 game ban (missing all 5 games), does this mean that he is owed a couple back if he re-offends again? Very good point LPS. They had another guy suspended too didn't they? Patrick was it? I bet he's served the full tariff too. Anyway, hopefully Rumun'll batter him this weekend.

While ever the team owners run the league, its going to happen.
All those in favour [hands go up], against [Panthers hands go up]
Maybe its time to build some bridges, eat some humble and get some friends on the board, at present we have none (it would seem)

Whether the bans were too harsh on each player is beside the point - thats what the appeal was to discuss. If they'd have just given Kozak a 1-2 game ban, fans would have been in uproar, but providing they EIHL stick with it and hand out similar ones each time, most fans would say "at least they're being consistant so noone's getting an advantage from it" - I know I would
Its just the consistant implementing of rules then revoking them thats making them a laughing-stock. Just like what happened with the 4-official rule

two ways we can handle this one to turn this into a gorefest, i know at least one would like that or we can skate and pass his team off the ice and hammer them were it matters on the scoreline, we dont need some teresterone circus show to divert us from the job which is two points.
Maybe many would want to see ndur have him but the two points in the bag first guys please!
As for the picture if i was a jelly baby i would sue, they have more backbone and better intelligence than those muppets in the Elite.

So the league have back-stepped again. I wonder if the £2,000 appeal charges have been returned? Hull were not given the right to appeal, hence the reduction. cardiff were allowed to appeal, and so expect Voths ban to stay in place. HL

Saturday now has the potential to be carnage. If someone gets seriously injured and let's be honest there is a very real possibility of this happening, Convery and the board will have blood on their hands.
