The best hockey movie ever - "Slapshot" - has just lost it's biggest star... Paul Newman, who played coach Reggie Dunlop, died last night o cancer (aged 83). How about this for a tribute? A minute's silence at the NIC tonight, followed by the entire crowd shouting out of of the best lines in cinema history - "Suzanne sucks p***y!!" RIP Paul/Reggie. Let 'em know you're there...

I'm sure this thread was on talk off topic a couple of weeks ago :s yeah you're right, i made a post about him when he went public about his cancer. im absolutely gutted. its very rare i get upset about someone i have never met dieing, but as far as my favourite actor, and someone who gave so much towards childrens charities, it saddens me for the loss. i hope his kids carry on the 'newman's own' range of food products and continue to give all their profits to good causes. i must say i find it to be quite direspectful to name the thread after one of his characters. yes old reggie is synonymous with hockey/hockey movies but newman played so many more characters and so many more that deserve a mention. cool hand luke, butch cassidy, eddie felson (i think) and henry gordoff. *edit* least of all, he was paul god damn newman. /*edit* great actor and a stand up human being. god bless.

Oh, for pity's sake... so I only mentioned one character... so I didn't see the thread on the other forum... so I have a different way of showing respect to the man. Big deal. Some people...

well a friend of my missus who isnt a cinema buff didnt know what films he was in but knew him from his salad dressings, how bad is that, although you could say setting up that company to just plough all the profits into good deeds sums up what a great bloke he was.
A sad loss to the film industry and the world in my view!

I loved Slapshot - obviously - but I always knew him more for his motor racing team - When the likes of Mario and Nigel have driven for it, you knew his team was worth racing for.
