Yes indeed - RIP Jimmy.
A great servant to Notts and highly respected in the game. Have fond memories of him from the days when I used to watch County. Think they broke the mould when they made Jimmy - as you say Kim he was a Great man - albeit quiet and unassuming.

Even as a Forest fan i can appreciate what he did to Notts. Probably their biggest legend.

RIP Jimmy,.. Far too many childhood memories for me to list here,..
Reading Dawns' post made me think of my Grandad who took me to see Notts from when I was 5 til I was 16 or so,..
I can still taste the Nuthalls mintoes,...
Jimmy, (and my Grandad) WERE my Notts County.

am a Nottingham Forest fan - but still appreciate what a local legend the guy was. A true Gent, that WILL be missed by all football fans here in Nottingham

Forest had BC, Notts had JS, both legends. Jimmy's after match analysis were great, although I could never understand a word he was saying. ;D RIP Jimmy

Met him couple of years back when he opened a fete that the junior hockey guys were at, looked frail but not in spirit, never supported county but i could tell he was someone to admire though!
Another soccer legend who can join the management team above, alongside Clough, Paisley. Stein, Busby, and of course Shankly!
RIP Jimmy

Started going to watch Notts at the start of their rise from division 4 after tiring of the turgid dross dished up by Forest in the early '70s.
Fantastic days, great matches. Notts had a really big side in those days. Only Willie Carlin was under six feet tall. Sirrell used to get two of his bigger defenders to go and stand outside the visitors' dressing room as they came off after warm-up and give them the eye.
I remember Sirrell being interviewed on Football Focus. It went something like this:
"Well Jimmy, who do you think will win the game today" "Whichever team scores the most goals" "Er, well, do you think you will win?" "If we score more goals than them, yes" .....and so on for 3-4 minutes.
Mind you, I'm not sure about his alleged habit on away trip journeys, after having put sauce on his chips at the service station, of licking the top of the bottle.
Bill Shankley, with characteristic modesty, once said Jimmy Sirrell was the best manager in Britain apart from himself. What Sirrell achieved with what he had to work with was remarkable. A proper football man, and I'm sad at today's news.

Absolutely gutted.
I had the pleasure of talking to him on several occasions and he ate slept and drank football. True gentleman and any tributes or accolades will be merited without doubt.
Thank you for the good times.
Good night and god bless Jimmy.

Never met the man but know what he did for the club. Will be greatly missed.
Wasn't going to go on Saturday - but now it's going to be a Notts/Panthers double.
RiP Sir Jimmy.

As a Forest fan, who visited Meadow Lane on more than a few occasions, I was saddened to hear of Jimmy Sirrel's passing. I only watched Notts under his leadership once....and that was as a 14-year-old ballboy. i don't remember anything at all about the game. I do remember Jimmy in the tunnel as we were waiting to come out saying something like "Get the ball back to us quickly, not so quickly to them, especially if we are winning!" My favourite quote of his was " If ye dinnae score, ye dinnae win!" We had Clough, the Magpies had Jimmy Sirrel, both legends for their respective clubs. I won't be at Meadow Lane on Saturday though I should like to be, just to pay my respects (charity work), but I will tune in to Radio Nottingham and join the applause. Rest peacefully, Jimmy

I'll be there today to pay my respects to Jimmy Sirrel with my Dad, who played for Notts many years ago. Both Forest fans, but thought we'd come down today with recent events taking place.
Let's hope I can keep my 100% win record at Notts alive at the same time!

Heartbreaking to lose Jimmy but everyone apart from the pavis stand fans put in a really good send off for him yesterday. He was before my time but as part of a Notts family all the stories are always about him and his record at the Lane was incredible.

Think this video sums up beautifully what Jimmy meant to us. I hope you have better luck getting to the end than I have. I've tried several times and just can't do it.
