Just caught the back end of the televised game that was played during the week. I cannot get my head around the fact they are televising Hull v Edinburgh as their game of the week next week. What a better way of showing people in the UK and Europe just what our game is about. The biggest rivalry, 2 good looking sides, 6500 sell out, atmosphere and probably a real good game.
Just don't understand the logic

What a mess up by SKY again, to miss out the 'Biggest' game of the weekend? Surprised Simmsy did not get his normal prediction in. He must be slipping!!!

I think this is just so every team in the league get to be shown and not just the top 4 week in week out

We were on the first week so its not fair to expect them to show just us all the time as much as we'd like them too, Caps, Hull etc have just as much right to be shown as the 'big' teams

I think the teams that pull the biggest crowds and have the best atmospheres have more right to be shown on SKY - just like the premier league. The fact they're not showing the panthers game is slightly odd.

I disagree actually. I think the teams that pull the biggest crowds and have the best atmospheres have more right to be shown on SKY - just like the premier league. However EVERY team is guaranteed 8 live games on SKY. Next I wouldn't start calling SKY, after all the league are the guys paying for the making of the show, so I guess they are the ones choosing the fixtures.

Why should the Panthers get preference over the like of the Caps or Stingrays, when they contribute just as much to get the sky coverage. Its the EIHL coverage, not Panthers TV. Anyway im sure the Panthers and Steelers will make it on at some point.

Just because they aren't one of the big guys it doesn't mean its going to be a crap game.
Both teams will feel its a game they can win and will probably play good attacking hockey instead of playing defensiveley like they do against the top teams.
Plus all teams have to have the same amount of games shown per year. I'd actually prefer MORE tv money to go to Hull & Edinburgh to give them more money to compete. We don't want it to be like football where most of the money goes to the teams who already have enough.

You do realise that we pay for the Sky coverage not the other way around, hence there is no TV money for anyone.

Wow, awful awful decision. You either show two of the worst teams in the league play out a game in front of a poor attendance or the first Steelthers game of the season in front of a sell-out.
I know we have to share out the coverage, but why not show this as our game instead of the other game?

But there will be time in a season to show the 'big two' again, surely.

Ice hockey fans + other sports fans are missing out on a cracker mind.. Probly the panthers - steelers game they do show will be something like a dour 2-0 win to either team, so hardly an advert for hockey! I won't be tuning in for a hull v edinburgh game, but obviousely would if they were showing panthers v steelers from last night.

Because of the very tight budget Sky games are meant to be on a wednesday. Some weekend games are covered but only the odd ones that can be squeezed in. I think everyone realises moving this game to wednesday would be out of the question

Whilst there are reasons why the Panthers - Steelers doesn't get shown it does suggest a lack of ambition by the league.
If they were serious about building the sport through the television coverage they pay for, then you'd think a game played in front of a capacity crowd with a pressure cooker atmosphere would be more likely to catch the attention of casual viewers than a bottom of the table clash played in an almost empty rink.
From a marketing point of view it seems like a no brainer - but then, are the EIHL into marketing?

I gather the choice of game is linked to the proximity of Sky equipment which may have been covering other events in the area

I didnt realise the league paid for sky coverage. In that case its a ludicrous decision! They couldve trebled or quadrupled their viewing figures by showing our game.

Televideo cover Premiership football for Sky, so they don`t get many free Saturdays.

I didnt realise the league paid for sky coverage. The league pays 50% of the production cost.

To be fair they obviously pick which game to cover in advance. Just because it's the first Panthers Steelers game doesn't mean it should automatically be televised. Recent history has shown that meetings between ourselves and Steelers have often been dour affairs and a poor advert for the game in this country. Just because Hull and Edinburgh supposedly have lesser teams doesn't mean they will automatically produce a lesser spectacle.

Televideo cover Premiership football for Sky, so they don`t get many free Saturdays. However this Saturday gone only 2/3 of the crews were working. 5 Premiership games (normally up to 8)

I gather the choice of game is linked to the proximity of Sky equipment which may have been covering other events in the area As Steve says Televideo cover the hockey and most of the sports ob's for SKY, read about them hereThe only crews SKY actually employ, are the news ones, and they are getting thinner on the ground
