I'm considering getting a Nintendo DS Lite or a Sony PSP Slim, and wondered if anyone had any views on either of them.
I participate in a points collection programme and nearly have enough for either of them, and am looking for a few pointers please.

Very tough choice. Really depends on what games you like.
I have a PSP and my girlfriend has a DS. I love them both, but they both offer different things.
PSP is a general entertainment system. You can play videos, music, store games videos and music on memory cards, great graphics, and offers serious gameplay (i mean the games are identical to what you can buy on the PS3).
The DS doesnt have as much option in terms of entertainment, but the games are more querky and fun. Things like nintendogs, big brain academy, mario.. games that kids and adults both like and can play. But lacks the more serious titles such as pro evo, NHL, Tom Clancy series etc.
Personally, i would use my points to get the PSP as its the more expensive, and then go and buy myself a DS!

Guess it depends what you're looking for, Luke summed them up pretty well. I personally think my PSP was a waste of money, because I've no desire to play stuff like GTA on a handheld - that's what my console and telly are for, where they look and sound better and are easier to control (the analog control on the original PSPs is frankly a waste of space - I hope they've improved that). Being able to play video and music on it is a nice extra I suppose, but again I've no desire to watch a film on a 3.5" screen, and I've got an MP3 player for my music. IMO, the DS does the gaming side far better. They might not look as flash as the PSP (although we're only talking PS2 standard graphics) but they offer something different to what you get from a console, a bit of originality.

listen to luke... the DS is for mini games, games for commuting, lunch breaks etc. The PSP is full of games you sit down and play when you have ages!
DS games are fun, as you would expect from nintendo and the touch screen adds some much needed interaction for a hand held device.
I played Cats DS much more than my PSP, which I eventually just sold
