To night I think I could possibly say I have now heard it all. In Block 4 where I have sat for the last 2 seasons, there was a guy, and several of his mates chanting their hearts out ;D. Some of the stuff they were coming out with was really funny (Taxi for the Stingrays and Who needs Dan Tessier we're playing Hull today were very funny), and in my opinion not at all offensive. I joined in as it was really getting to the Hull fans. In fact when Hull scored their second, we started something along the lines of "We'll celebrate your goal for you, Na,Na,Na", as they were very quiet, and we broke into the Chelsea Dagger chant as well, you get the picture. ;D Well we did all this after we had been told to tone it down, YES TONE IT DOWN. Now I know swearing, fighting and threatening behavior cannot be allowed (there was none), I want a safe environment too enjoy my sport in, as much as anyone else. But come on security, tone it down, tone what down the volume, do you want us to whisper. Or sit with our finger pressed to our lips like naughty school children. Most of those chanting that got a finger wagging, were with children of their own and their wives or girlfriends, in other words FAMILIES. You know the ones you are supposed to be encouraging to attend. On the way out I actually heard some one complaining that the atmosphere spoiled the outing for them, WHAT! . This guy who ever he was (dressed in what looked like a seersucker beige jacket) reminded me of a maths teacher, apologies to any maths teachers. So the atmosphere had spoiled their enjoyment. Well all I have to say is "GET A LIFE", its Ice Hockey for goodness sake. A blood and bandages sport, that is not only fast and skillful but sometimes brutal, and the fans shout a lot. And like I said earlier there was no swearing that I heard, so what can be wrong with that. If it bothers you so much don't go, pick a more quiet sport, like..........Crown Green Bowling that's quiet , but not Formula One that is definitely not quiet, although you would not be offended by the noise of the fans, cause you would not hear them. ;D On the way out I saw the guy who had been the instigator for most of the singing and chanting, he was putting his kid into a pushchair. I thanked him for starting my season off on the right foot, and I asked him if he was coming next week, so we could continue were we left off. Good game, and a damn enjoyable evening out, despite being told to tone it down. Apologies again, I know similar threads have been put up, but I had not witnessed it myself first hand before, so decided to put this on. Our chant next week "We're not chanting, We're not chanting, we're not chanting anymore,we're not.............

Sadly the NIC is the most politically correct hockey venue i have come across and the sport is too often seen as entertainment and not as an actual sport and thus a lot of chanting is deemed far to anti social by the people in charge. It's not the first time its happend either, i remember the block 11 pandas being told the same thing about 2-3 seasons ago.
If people dont like chanting and singing they dont have to join in, but to moan about other people doing it...get a life and please dont come back to Panthers again i wont miss you.
We need more people chanting, more noise, the dead atmosphere half the time (i put the finger of blame on a 'family atmosphere' myself) is the main thing that bugs me about my hockey nights.

Can't believe you were being told to tone it down. Fan's getting behind their team and enjoying themselves, what is the world coming to?! I was sat in Block 11 so I couldn't quite make out the chants, but reading them on here.... how funny! Have to say I thought it was hillarious when you guys were doing Chelsea Dagger to them scoring!

a quote on the post game thread says that our GM apparently asked the stewards to ask block 4 to not chant so to not offend visiting fans?! This is the same GM who says, quote: 'make some noise'?!

Whilst i don't join in with every chant, it is ridiculous expecting people not to chant at a hockey game. As has been said, if there's no swearing then what is possibly the problem. if people don't like it then move to a quiet block. Provided there's no swearing then away fans won't get offended, surely.

Block 4 have bought a new dimension to the home games,.. and a good few of them travel away and are very vocal. Long may it continue.
(I hope Antons dancing improves too,.. as its awful.)
However,.. I do know that there is a certain chant regarded David Beauregards disability that is growing in popularity, and according to a couple of Phoenix fan friends, was apparently used against him in this weekends games. It really annoys and offends Phoenix fans.
I would be disappointed if our more vocal fans followed this thread.
But this is a minor issue,.. but I think we should be aware that there is a line,.. and it shouldn't be crossed. Perhaps that is the GM's concern.

I was sat with keefe tonight (the guy putting his baby girl into pushchair) and were told by the stewards to keep it down, I understand the guys at the back were asked the same thing.
I heard no swearing, abusive language or gestures but were told 'We would be crying if it was the other way round'. WTF?? the only response the hull fans could muster was to turn round and shout angrily at individuals. Funnily enough that didnt get picked up on and didnt upset anyone, if anything it funny to watch their reactions
The excuse given? It was instructions from Gary Moran and the guy was doing his job.
Id like to think there would be some clarification from the club but i cant see it. How do we create an atmosphere worth tunring up to? Stick to panthers and lets go panthers?
The particular chant that included abusive language, gestures or swearing was 'Its all gone quiet over there'

My advice would be to the GM if you dont want supporters to support the team by chanting but not swearing then i think you need to have a rethink pal!
We could have shush its a library placards for next week, Simms has the opposite problem he is trying to find a fan who will chant after sat night!

Hello.... I guess it will come as no suprise to some people to know it was ted and myself making the noise and at the centre of a scandle!!!! I make noise no matter where i am, or who im sat near, at any game and regardless of the score or the situation! When i was a kid, my dad used to take me to the games and we would sit in the OLD block 11. I didnt understand the game, or really know what was going on, but it was the noise the guys in the old rink made that got me hocked, it was the block 11 lot that now sit in block 7 that got me addicted! This is something i have always remembered and want to carry on. First and foremost im a hockey fan, and i want the sport to develop, and the kids, as everyone knows, are the future, if my chanting and noise-making gets them hockey, i have a sense of acheivement. I had the kids with me tonight, my 9 month old daughter and sonias other 2 boys who i have become step dad to who are 4, and 7. Now, i spend every day of the week trying to teach the boys the rights and wrongs of behaviour (ok, im not the ideal candidate for this job, but im trying!!!), we try to show them that violence is wrong and bad language is not tollerated! Im not going to undo that by swearing at a hockey game! I want them to enjoy the sport, get into it (even contemplating taking bed the 4 year old to skating lessons so he can start to play), i want them to cheer and chant and to have fun. Last night i had them sat next to me, and yes i was making alot of noise, but all of it "family friendly", so i felt patronised when a steward came up to me and asked me to "tone it down"!!!! what? Ive been watching hockey nearly all my life and have only once been told to shhssshhh before and that was in block 11 in the NIC when the girl came and told us to be quiet! This really is a joke, what planet are people on? Anyway, the steward had really offended me, and his little visit was followed by an onslaught of swearing from a Hull fan aimed at the ASBO lot at the back of block 4!!! Now i know these guys are young, and can be annoying ( i know them all, and like them, but they can annoy me sometimes! lol) but to aim swearing at them is a) not fair as its winding them up and could ultimatly get them in trouble as stewards would no doubt take the older guys word, and b) unacceptable as i have my kids with me and there were other kids in the block too! I addressed the guy myself on the way down in the period break, and in all credit to him, he appologised and accepted he was out of order! So i thank him for that, but what annoys me is that the steward did nothing about it! One rule for one, and one rule for another! I spoke to the steward also, and his response, and these were his words not mine, "that moron (not moran, he called he moron!) has told us these are the rules, what can i do, we have been told you are not allowed to chant to the other teams fans"!!!!! If this is the case, then shame on you GM, shame on you! I remember occasions where GM has asked me to make sure there is plenty of noise during the game, and now we are being told to keep quiet! I am seriously starting to lose all interest in going to the NIC.... i am a panthers fan, and always will be a panthers fan, but its at a point where i would happily just go to the away games and skip the home games! I have always offered my time to the panthers and said i would love to help in anyway i can! I offered to do the match night announcing once, and was taken up on the offer, but at the time i was at the Oak tree with my ex missus and were sponsoring the panthers, as soon as we split and i no longer had any involvement in the sponsorship GM pulled the plug on the announcing! I am at present helping the Telford Tigers and loving it, i am living my dream, but it upsets me that this isnt with the Panthers! The Guys at telford treat me fantastically and i love and respect them for that, but at the moment everyone at the panthers games is getting treated like a mug! Boswanga, thank you for your comments outside last night, it was very warming for someone to come up and say something like that! Makes looking like a tit worth while. I shall continue to make noise and im sure ted will too.... and as i said last night to the steward, i will not be stopped from making noise, if i swear, become offensive or my banter goes to far then fair enought please eject me, but if its none of those then im not gonna stop, kick me out if they want like i was threatened with last night, but i shall sure as hell kick up a stink! Its a shame that the NIC can spoil something so fantastic! ps - forgot to add.... nearly fell of my seat last night when block 5 the libary block started making noise, even baiting the Hull bench! Fantastic, my upmost praise goes to the guys over in block 5 who started all that!!!!

I was sat in Block 4. They were asked to tone down the chants that were directed at the Stingrays fans. While I in no way agree with what they asked I do see their point. It's not like the chants were directed at a 'block' of fans - they were at a dozen people, a majority of which were women and children. They 'MAY' have felt intimidated. (Keefe's got a big loud voice!) Having said that, (just playing a little Devils Advocate) I do think it was wrong to ask them to be quiet - there were no abusive chants and no bad language displayed at any time. (Well not loud enough for the Hull fans to hear anyway!)

GM should take a trip to Cardiff and see some real atmosphere, that is what the NIC [sorry forgot] The Fabulous NIC needs, not the 3rd period library feel we have.

(I hope Antons dancing improves too,.. as its awful.) Agreed - my dancing sucks lol. But I was proud last season to be part of Block 4's Barmy Army - and I can't wait to get back again on Saturday!! If only I could get the wheelbarrow song going...hehe. Oh, also agreed with the statement about that Manchester player - tad over the line IMO.

Seriously, having been told to 'keep a lid on it' myself in the past..for doing sod all wrong (Making gestures to the Giants fans...when I was merely waving at a friend Gavin/Gordie the Gorilla) I can 100% sympathise. The club seemingly is only too quick to forget what some of us fans has done to help in the past.

Keefe don't stop going to the home games, that would be like giving in to them. I am sure the majority in Block 4 would like to see you back every week, I know I would. As I said before, last night to me, was an almost perfect start to my season. I did not realize that one of our fans had used bad language, and that you had to have a word. This only adds to our argument though, because in a way we as fans were policing our own, without assistance from the nanny brigade/security. I am sure if he had not listened to you, you as a parent would have gladly told the officials to eject him, quite rightly so.( just read again what you wrote about swearing fan, got wrong end of stick again. But I am sure if it had been one of ours, you still would have had a word)
I would just like to add, that I saw at least one Stingray fan (a woman), stick two fingers up in our direction. And although I could not hear her, it was obvious what she was saying, and it was not "I like your chants guys". And although she continued with her tirade, under the watchful eyes of at least 3 security officials, the action taken was NIL. If they are not going to take action against visiting fans, and allow them, but not us, Carte Blanche to chant whatever, then we might as well play every game away. Because the atmosphere when such as Blaze or the Steelers visit us will make it feel like an away game anyhow.
So come on GM if it was you who asked us to tone it down, well think about what you were asking. This game is to be televised, can you imagine someone watching it, and seeing a crowd of fans sitting there in almost utter silence. If they were thinking of coming to a future game, well they would certainly think again, I would. And after all, the more bums on seats the better for the club, and the sport in general. ;D

They should concentrate their efforts on reminding visiting players that they are supposed to be professional sportsmen. Getting told to "sit in the f***in nose bleeds" if their language in the penalty box offends my 8 year old son isn't the behaviour I'd expect from a professional sportsman, but I guess Hull goon, professional sportsman is one of them there oxymorons!

The noise from the fans is an important part of any sport, but especially one where people are as mad and passionate as hockey fans. For me and how I "grew up" in hockey, with first Invicta and now the Nottingham Lions, it is on an equal footing with the game itself and I remember more about great chants than I do about great goals. I know for a fact that what I do at games annoys a lot of people, but if anyone shouts at me then it's more likely to either spur me on or try to get them involved. Even though that sounds like a warning, I'd like to think it's more of an invitation to anyone thinking of coming along on Sunday

I was sat with keefe tonight (the guy putting his baby girl into pushchair) I wasn't there, but as soon as I read the first post I just knew that the head choirboy being spoken about just had to be Keefe! So they're trying to silence 'The Donk' eh? Yeheah .... good luck with that!!

Right.... ive had my coffee and cheese now, so ive chilled out a little, and i realise my original post was a little extreme!
The situation re the NIC really does annoy me, it just feels like nothing in the place works! Not so fabulous National Ice Centre!
The biggish woman with the Hull fans did make me chuckle! She spent the whole evening shouting abuse at Andy French!!! Whats he going to do? And the blonde lady that spent more of the game watching us than she did watching the game lost it towards the end. In the majority the Hull fans were and are lovely.
I just want to have a good time, and i want everyone else to have a good time. Its nice when you get a block of fans chuckling, adds to the fun of the game. If at any point i offend anyone in anyway, i will always welcome them talking to me and i will always respect their comments. Those that know me i hope would back me up on this one.
The Panthers management and the NIC organisation need to decide on what it is that they want... do they want an intimidating bear pit that other teams are scared to visit like it used to be at the old rink, or do they want the Sheffield'esq silence where fans will drop like flies and we end up playing games in the olympic rink!!!!
Well i want it loud, and i will keep doing me best to get it that way! Anyone that wants to join in feel free.... anyone that wants to start the noise please do... my voice is knackered today!
Thank you BJ, do people really see me as that loud!!!! lol.... i quite like "The Donk", well that kinda branding worked for the hoff!
