Keefe, Robins wasn't good at wandering out of net. He got caught with his pants down almost every time he did it. It was the one flaw in his game. On some occasions he could be found in the vicinity of the skate shop when 3 attackers were marauding around our net !
I didn't realise how much I'd missed hockey until last night. You turn up at the Arena and see all those folks that you see every week for 6 months and then not at all for the next 6 or so. I haven't jumped up and down and cheered and shouted so much since last year either. Points on the game:
Zero Tolerance seems to have stopped all that tap tap tap with the stick blade on someone's elbow as they are ahead of the defender and I didn't once see Clarke having to unravel himself from sticks and clutching as he carried the puck. These things were commonplace last season. However, slight collisions seem to get called penalties as well. We don't want this to become a non-contact sport. I think we need to look at whether there is actually an intent to Hook and Hold and Interfere. It'll be good if the players get used to it and amend their play accordingly.
The new banner looks ace and is a fitting tribute to our retired shirts. One thing though, is that a Steeler halfway down the left side of the '0' ? He seemed to be wearing teal and orange. Surely some mistake !
I like the new music and they played a few of my suggestions which was cool. 'Been Caught Stealing' by Jane's Addiction was one, but I'm at a loss to understand why its being used in conjunction with sponsoring a Storage company. Do they store stolen goods ?? I think we should be told ;D If the penalty box sponsor was still Jackson Quinn Solicitors it would make sense. Maybe they chose the music before the sponsor came in.
The first period had me hiding my face in shame. What on Earth were we doing ? But one inbetween period team talk later, and the team hit Warp Factor 9 and scored something like 6 unanswered goals. Our powerplays look vastly improved and it was quite funny when we were a man down on the PK to notice that our team seemed to just be ignoring the fact and attacking anyway.
Players in particular:
Krajicek - Pron. Cry-check ? Someone tell me. He looks great. Big lad who gets in the way like a good defender should. Seems to end up in front of the forwards behind the opponent's goal a bit too often. Very impressive though. If not for the hat tricks, I thought he'd have a shout for MOM.
Neilson - Not convinced. His positioning was out for the first goal and the second could have been stopped if he'd checked the player on the boards earlier. Maybe he'd taken too many steps and it would've been Boarding or the ZT scared him off doing it, but I thought he should've stopped him there. Early days though.
Lindsay - Hmmmmm. Erratic. Did some good stuff and some bad stuff. Set his pads for the first goal and I'm looking at a gap he's left for about 2 seconds before the puck went through it. Also managed to deflect a shot with his stick over his own pads by the look of it. Surely a netminder's stick should be at an angle where that can't happen. Did a great one on one stop later though. Like I say, erratic this game.
McAslan - Didn't impress in the first, but then who did ? Then found his gear and was lethal. Great hat trick. Good chaser of the puck.
Clarkie - My boy. Back to his best which is great to see. ZT will suit him as he won't be clutched and grabbed out of the game. Fantastic hat trick and he pointed to me after the game as I was jumping up and down with my Clarke shirt turned around. Cool.
Emersic - Solid. Glad we re-signed him.
Neil - Good to see the young lad getting some shifts and doing well.
Shymr - Fiesty character, who is gonna get into trouble, but will be entertaining to watch. Decent player.
Simoes - Can't say I particularly noticed him to be honest. Early days.
Good stuff. Roll on Saturday and lets have a win on my birthday ;D
By the way, the programme mentioned that the Hull games won't be on the season ticket. Is this a strange new definition of the term season ticket where it doesn't mean all home league games are covered ? Management, stop harping on about '24 guaranteed games' when it was always 'a minimum of 24 guaranteed games'. Nothing surprises me at this club any more.
