Avram Grant has been sacked.
I'm not sure that being runners up in the Champions League and Premier League is necessarily failure but I felt pretty much from day one that a manager who no-one had ever heard of and was lacking in emotion and charisma probably wasn't the best choice to replace Jose Mourinho.

I think you're spot on about him not being charasmatic enough Martin. I have to admit I am surprised at how well he did and how close to Silverware he got them. However he is a dour professional who is low profile and just gets on with his job.

I wouldn't be too suprised if mourinho is back at chelsea within the near future, also i have heard that in the last few days that him and abramovic(sp) have been having chats with each other and the chelsea owner has just brought mourinho a 2 million pund ferrari.

does a manager have to be charasmatic, or just good at his job?
i think thats an atrocious example to use. did he succeed this season? yes, he might not have took the team to the winners enclosure, but for a first season with the club, he did remarkably well. personally i think he just wasnt given a fair chance.

did he succeed this season? yes, I have to disagree with you, he didn't succeed at all. 2nd is first loser, they got knocked out of the f.a cup by barnsley and at the end of the day if he had met whatever objectives he was given he probably wouldn't have been sacked. For a team that spends like chelsea finishing 1st is a demand he couldn't manage it.

thing is though man unt spent as much if not more, they cannot both win it and rafa gets stick for not winning it with even less money, only one who seems to be coated with teflon is wenger.
Personally considering chelsea position in the league was 5th when he took over so he did well there and i think player power had a lot to do with it, but if you have terry, drogba, ballack, lampard, all with strong personalities you need a strong minded manager to cope and i think he was too laid back rather than lacked charisma, cannot compare him to jose he thought he had a charisma the size of a third world country!

well its looks like hiddink has ruled himself out (via his agent). whoever takes over will better be prepared for a tough job, i wonder whether RA is monitoring Sven's position at Man City?

I would put Mancini as fave for Chelsea. Wouldn't be too surprised if Sven came in with him.
Seems to be between Mancini. Scolari and Hughes for the job. I'd love to see Hughes upset Man U fans and take over City.

I think Avram Grant will start the season as the Man City boss. Whether it'll end that way is anyones guess.
We may have to rule out the Wally with the brolly from the poll as I think he's taken over Dutch EreDivisie side FC Twente who will be in next years Champions League.

Didn't Mancini say he was leaving months and months ago? He said he was going to quit after Inter went out of the Champs league but got persuaded to stay by the President of Inter at least until the end of the season. After they won the Scudetto he said he was going to quit again.

Looks like Rijkaard won't be in charge either:
BBC 16:32 GMT, Thursday, 29 May 2008 17:32 UK
Ten Cate sacked as Chelsea coach
Chelsea have terminated the contract of assistant first-team coach Henk ten Cate, the club has confirmed.
The decision was reached following a meeting on Thursday morning.
The news comes five days after manager Avram Grant was sacked despite the club reaching the Champions League final and finishing second in the Premier League.
"As a result of the changes, and in light of any forthcoming appointment, it was clear this is the correct decision," said a club statement.
Former Ajax manager Ten Cate, 53, had said the club told him his position was safe following the dismissal of manager Avram Grant.
The Dutchman joined Chelsea as assistant manager in October, but his fate appears to have been sealed by the club's failure to win a trophy for the first time in four years.
His dismissal suggests Frank Rijkaard is not among the candidates to replace Grant - Ten Cate was assistant to his compatriot at Barcelona when the club won the Champions League in 2006.

see you missed the mancini link yet as in henry mancini! Alf Too much alcohol I'm afraid. Mancini wrote Pink Panther but that's about the limit of my knowledge with him TM. I think Mancini's departure from Milan owes more to Inter wanting Jose Mourinho than anything else. Where anyone else ends up is anyones guess.

He said he was going to quit after Inter went out of the Champs league but got persuaded to stay by the President of Inter at least until the end of the season. After they won the Scudetto he said he was going to quit again. There were big problems with the Inter squad this year, too many personalities within and Mancini couldn't control then. As an Inter fan I'm disappointed he's gone as he did a remarkable job and three consecutive Scudettos is something I never thought would happen as the team have always been the nearly men of Serie A. But it was much the case this season as Adey in 2002-03, good squad but the coach couldn't control then. Mourinho (if true) will be a sterner test for the likes of Figo to mess with, and I hope Jose brings Lampard with him who I think would be well sutied to the Italian game.

Sparta.
Do you think the likes of Ibrahimovic will be shown the exit door if Jose is appointed as Inter coach? Or would you prefer him to say,Drogba who is also touted as an Inter target?

I think Drogba and Ibrahimovic are similar, both talented but prone to being akin to mardy school boys. Personally, I'd rather keep the Swede.

Still if Jose does get the job he wont be forced to sign Shevchenko..........
