Red Socks Fans pay Up!
Am also looking for footage I saw on Score Tonight of the Yankees fan who was hit in the face by a stray flying bat that slipped from the baters hand.
With blood dripping down his face, the bat in his hand, being led away by the stewards for treatment... he was still able to stop and start the crowd in a "Boston Sucks" chant.. Quality! ;D

Bobby Abreu and 1 other (can't remember offhand) dealt to NY Yankees for 4 prospects. Time will tell if it turns out to be a good trade for us Phills but at the moment I'm a little pessimistic. We can kiss the wild card goodbye for this season I fear....

Jays slumping again It looks like a case of 'next year' again. We appear to be going in the right direction though. Chase Utely had a 35 game hitting steak ended on friday.

It was Corey Lidle who went to the Yanks with Abreu, again the Evil Empire pulled off a ridiculous trade without giving up a single front line prospect...utterly unbelievable, it's like they brainwash people into trading with them! As for the Red Sox we've hit a slide, unsurprising when you consider Varitek, Nixon, Mirabelli, Wakefield, Clement and Foulke are all on the shelf, Wells isn't properly fit and the bullpen can't throw for toffee. Makes me churn to see Arroyo being lights out in Cinci, hopefully I'll get to GAB next week to see him since I move their tomorrow! All that is made worse by the fact we can't hold a 4 run lead in the last 3 innings last night agaist Tampa of all people...things are looking very bleak unless we turn the corner sharpish and get some miracle healing oil.

It seems all is not well within the Toronto camp, with Vernon Wells indicating he wont sign a contract extension with the Jays. Ship him out now!

This is the most infuriating and pitiful baseball weekend I've ever seen.
I sat in a bar in town last night till 1:30am watching the Sox bullpen hurl the win down the toilet. The only reliever who seems capable is Papelbon and you can't ask your closer to get 6 outs...he managed 5 and then Jeter got the fortunate jammed bloop to tie the game. Follow that with a shocking bunt from Youk and a waste of a bases loaded one out chance for the walk off and the bullpen implodes in the 10th. It was gut wrenching...not to mention soul destroying.
We've well and truly stuffed this one up...play our worst ball in years over the most important weekend of the season. Game over. Enough said.

I'll have a punt now (22 games left) that the Phillies will miss out on the wild card by 1 game again. Last year it was the Astro's and this year my guess would be the Padres.

Bye bye New York. What a horrible shame that the Yankees season ended so abruptly! Handled the injuries (albeit lesser injuries) better than we Sox did but then couldn't do it when it mattered even though the injured players were back. Again. Looks like messers Torre and A-Rod are on the way out, the axe falling on them as a consequence. Torre likely to be replaced by Piniella or Giradi and A-Rod possibly being dealt to the Angels. The contract options on Sheffield and Mussina likely to be ignored too so that makes 4 taking the brunt of the underachievement. With all the resources (whatever one thinks of that) that the Yankees have it's a great example that a team full of All Stars doesn't gaurantee trophies...6 years and counting for the Yanks, far, FAR too long for the patience of a certain Mr G Steinbrenner.

A terrible tragedy.
Puts perspective on sport, the Play Offs and the Yankees (and Red Sox) going out. Shocking news, my heart goes out to his family and friends, especially his wife and son.

Jeter wins the Hank Aaron award for the best all round hitter in the American League after hitting 14 homers...what a complete pile of crap, you have to be kidding me? How in the world he can be considered for that award against the likes of David Ortiz and Vladimir Guerrero beggars belief. By fan vote as well...no one but Yankees fans can have bothered voting.
Watch the Jeter love in get him the MVP too.

though my money is still on the Cardinals. The law of averages said I had to get one right sooner or later ! Sincere congratulations to the Cardinals though. I must admit they haven't really looked as good as they did last year but they still got it right when it mattered.

Having watched every game but one there's no doubt that the Tigers LOST the World Series as opposed to the Cardinals winning it!

Sorry Andy have I mistyped my previous post or have you misread it? The point I am trying to get across is that the Cards' lokked a better side last season as opposed to this. Sorry if there's any confusion.

Sorry if there's any confusion. No it's Ok, I certainly agree that they looked a FAR better team last season than this, I was referring to your saying they got it right when it mattered. They definitely did that in the NLCS against the Mets (although they were fortunate about the injuries to Pedro and El Duque) but in the World Series I don't think they got it right I think the Tigers got it wrong.

I haven't seen any of the WS games myself so I'll take your word for it. On face value though the Cards put uo a 7 - 2 win in game 1 in Detroit and another good margin win at home (4 - 1 or something in game 4?)

I'll throw another stat out though, the Tigers made 8 errors in 5 games, all of which cost them runs.
