The Flyers have tied Hitchcock to a contract until 2009, which is a huge relief. What we didn't want was a dead-duck coach situation. Things looking up.

Is he expected to win the cup in that term?
I would have thought another 3 years would be a fair enough timescale.

If we sort the goalie situation out (and i believe that if we wait until next summer and sign Giguere from the Ducks on an UFA we will have) i think we've got a more than reasonable shot at the cup.

If we sort the goalie situation out. We'll never sort the goalie situation out. Niittymaki should be #1 and Esche should be traded for a 'veteran' low profile goalie to back him up. (Theodore or Kolzig standard). Niitttymaki is still on an upwards curve IMO and should now be the go - to guy. JS would take too big a slice of the cap for my liking.

Don't you have any competant goalies within the system that could act as Nittymaki's relief?

Don't you have any competant goalies within the system that could act as Nittymaki's relief? Probably a couple of seasons away. Phantoms have 3 goalies listed 2 of whom are only 21 (Martin Houle and Rejean Beauchemin) and still appear to split their time with the Trenton Titans of the ECHL.

That's pretty poor considering Philadelphia were touted as potential finalists/cup winners last season.

Phantoms also have a 24 year old called Scott Munroe, but he doesn't appear to be on the Flyers Recall list. Not 100% sure how that works and if he would be available if needed.

I agree, start with AN and use Esche where needed instead of the other way round. Kolzig would be a top backup and also maybe help Nittys game

It's widely recognised that a goalie more than any other player can win you the trophy. Whilst we have no clear #1 we will never win anything.
