From todays Evening Post
"Two city bars could lose their licences for serving under-age drinkers.
Broadway Cafe Bar and Bunkers Hill are the first city venues to be caught out three times in undercover police operations.
Officers have passed files to Nottingham City Licensing Committee, which has the power to revoke licences, close premises for three months or alter opening times.
The owners of the bars accept staff made mistakes but believe other pubs pose greater problems. Jonathan Webster, managing director of Hardy's and Hansons, owner of Bunkers Hill in Hockley, said: "The police should be discussing with us where the problem pubs are and targeting those pubs rather than just trying to catch people out."
Julian Grocock, managing director of Tynemill, which runs Broadway in Broad Street, Hockley, said: "It's arguable as to what they are trying to achieve."
Inspector Paul Winter said the pubs were caught serving a 16?-year-old on three occasions: "When you've asked them to put things in place and they've clearly not been doing that, you've got to take it to the next level."

There have been large signs up about age/ID in the Bunkers for the last couple of weeks at least, so I guess that report explains why.

All Pubs in Nottingham were given plenty of notice by the Police that checks would be carried out, so to get caught THREE times is inexcusable.

It's all down tho the new legislation.
Automatic £80 fine for the server if caught, plus the Desiganted Premises Supervisor gets into trouble, plus the Premises Licence can be revoked and/or have conditions imposed and/or the pub can be subjected to a closure order of varying lengths.
The Nottm Police mean business too. They were instrumental in The Works losing it's Licence (and rightly so), and also for Long Island being changed from a late night venue back into a bar/restaurant.

ye most pubs/clubs have started saying you must look 21 or expect to be ID. Which is a good way of doing it IMHO

It is so bloody annoying though having to get my ID out at every bar i go to, if i ever go out with people who arent 18 more than likely they end up going home as they cant get in anywhere whereas a year ago they would get in ANYWHERE, so its definitly changed dramatically. THERES TOO MANY OLD PEOPLE IN TOWN THOUGH LOL

It's just a matter of changing the norm.
I got ID'd in Canada last year and I'm 34. I asked the Mountie(in full boots, jodphurs and daft hat get-up!) why they do it, and he said they are expected to ID everyone who appears under 40! He did say however, that because people expect it, they don't see it as a problem.
The 21 thing is a scheme called Challenge 21. It's a way of operators showing the authorities that they are serious about their standards. Very favourably looked on by the Police/Council.

I'm all for places asking people for ID.
I'm 26 and still get asked for ID at my local Co-op. It doesn't bother me, I just make sure that I take ID if I go to buy booze.

Im 20.... but as some of you know.... rather baby faced....
I get asked for ID a lot in notts.... not so much in derby because im always in the same places and the barstaff and bouncers recognise the regulars....
Its quite annoying but id rather they ID everyone and anyone... stops me being surrounded by hordes of underage kids on their first night out when all i want is a seat and nice chat with my mates!

I think the I.D. card idea is a good idea, but its stupid with these kids they should stay at the park with 20-20 and white lighting

I always get ID'd, without fail, walk into bars with my ID in my hand nowadays!! It's typical though now I'm nearly 20 and I know they've toughened up lately but I've been going out since I was 16 and never had a problem until I turned 18! It's good though 'cuz it means less ratty little kids in bars when you go out !

I work at Morrisons and we are told to ID anyone who looks under 21 as well...............but i never have, i need to though or im gonna get into trouble one of these days lol. In town these days though i feel like such a baby, unless im out on student nights when everyone is my age but at the weekends the average of people seems to be about 30, they're arent many nice young ladies to pull anymore since the tightend up the ID thing lol

My girlfriend gets asked for ID a lot. When we were out with 2 of our friends last summer all three of them got asked for ID on the way in to a club, when the bouncer looked at me, my girlfriend told him I didn't have any ID & I just shrugged. He grinned and said "neah, I don't need to see ID for that old b*****d"

None of this explains why Jono#72 was asked for his ID in Sainsbury's the other week though. ;D
