Cold callers/canvassers are my PET hate. I have several ways of dealing with them, these include: a/ Blowing a whistle at them down the phone - thus potentially bursting their ear drums. b/ Interupting them & saying 'Before you go any further..I want your home phone number, so I can phone you up at really inconvenient times, & bug the life outta you'' c/ Offer to sing them a song d/ pretend to be foreign..& keep saying nothing but ''I no understand...I no speaka da english yes'' in a variety of accents e/ say ''Can you just hold on whilst I go get a pen''...& see how long they wait till they hang up. Just tried this one a few minutes ago, & the guy from StayBright windows stayed on the line for a total of 7 minutes before hanging up. They never phone me again. I know you can apply to have your named removed from files etc... but where's the chuffin' fun in that?? You could just try saying 'no thanks' and putting the phone down.

I'm sure every branch of Staybright windows has rang us up, we used to get about 3 calls a week from them - all different branches though!!

Amber Windows here in Coventry are annoying. They must have asked us 5-6 times now if we want our windows replacing, and if so, how many? They just ring people up from a list. Infact the girl rang up last week, I said no thanks, and hung up. She rang again about 10 minutes ago and didn't realise

I put the phone down the second i find out its a cold caller without saying anything, esp how my number is ex-directory so they shouldn't have it anyways!

Whilst these people can be a pain in the proverbial you've got to remember that they're just doing their job. You might not want them ringing you up but all they're trying to do is to earn a wage. So hang up on them if you like but at least try & be polite about it & as for saying that you blow a whistle down the phone at them because it might burst their ear-drums, well that's just reprehensible - how would you like it if someone did that to you just because you were doing your job?

i politely say no thanks, but then leave the phone off the hook for a while, so the caller remains connected, unbeknown they are still being charged for the call.
my wife has a good way of dealing with cold callers, she hands the phone to my 5 year old daughter and tells her to sing to the nice person on the other end of the phone.

What's happened to Vertigo's post on here? I can see my post first! Now it makes no sense! Also, i'm on the front of the forum as having the last post in the NHL forum, although that was over a week ago. Is it just me who can see that?

Vertigo has deleted his account on the Cage which is why the posts have disappeared.
Certainly makes a nonesense of the thread as you say!

On the "Celeb name game", it says that I started the thread off, however I know I didn't! Plus, the instructions have vanished from the person who started the thread! Very strange indeed....

My Get rid of cold callers especially at the door is when they knock I put something , a cup/plate/spoon in the oven before I answer the door. I then give them a couple of minutes and say "sorry I cant talk now I've something in the oven". Quite polite and no lies. If they get pushy I say "No thanks, No money" They usually disappear at that.

when they tell you who they are invite them excitedly explaining they are more than welcome. Apologise for been so unfriendly on the doorstep, and tell them you thought they were another baliff or debt collection agency. Or even better tell them in a slurred accent you are deaf. *I used to cold call so know what its like, we only target certain houses that fit the product, some stand out like sore thumbs
