How is it that 59 instances of speeding police officers in Derbyshire all come down to the fact that none of the officers concerned was guilty of anything? And how can it be that an officer driving at 159mph can say he was practicing driving fast and that be ok?

My own force policy is that if you're caught speeding, you get prosecuted like a memeber of the public. I know of colleagues who've been flashed by speed cameras while driving police vehicles, and they've been prosecuted. Obviously different if you're on a blue light run.

Your force sounds like it has a fair policy but I understood that all the derbyshire cops got the standard ticket and then gave their "reasons" and were subsequently let off by the derbyshire force legal boffin who even made such excuses as "the blue light was on but the camera flashed it in between the blue light flashing". On the face of it 59 tickets and 59 let offs serves to breed contempt for the police in general if you ask me. If there's one thing people can't stand its one rule for one and one rule for another.

I even know of one officer who parked his vehicle on double yellows to assist a WMP officers engaged in arresting a violent male, and a traffic warden put a ticket on the vehicle. ;D
