I forget did we go a whole season without beating them last year?
Best games of the season, bobbins, biggest money spinners.

Best games of the season, bobbins, biggest money spinners. Don't they amount to the same thing to the Panthers management?

"The biggest rivalry in the sport will go centre stage in this season's Challenge Cup final!"
I think it's true. There is no bigger rivalry in the NHL or any league on the continent. Steelers v Panthers is as big as hockey gets anywhere on Earth.

Those so called money spinners as you suggest, ensure that you can afford to play some of the other teams in the league

Spin and Tripe.
WHy oh Why.
Ide rather they hyped up the whole FINAL as being a top event final, the top dog of the cup matches etc etc and not the teams in it so much.

Is it still the case that you and the other small clubs still consider a Panthers visit, like a cup final. The small clubs, Steelers included need Panthers more than we need you. I for one would still like us entered in the German league, bring some decent hockey to these shores.

Same debate every single time. Yeh, its a rivalry. Yeh, its overhyped. Yeh, of course the club promote the rivalry cos that brings in more people and more money and the clubs need money. No, nothing is in the slightest bit surprising about that.
As for myself, I much prefer a cardiff or basingstoke game, but a game's a game, and I wanna see hockey so bring it on!

Do we need this EVERY time we play the Steelers, it is the respective press agents job to promote these games, can't we just roll our eyes, have a little chuckle, and get on with the important part, the hockey!!

It's all Gary Moran with the "biggest rivalry" bit.

It wont change, its the way GM does his PR, we just need to accept that it wont change and stop getting upset about it

OK. League games between the two are the dullest thing since someone came up with a paint drying similie/metaphor (I may be a journo, but am rubbish at grammer and spelin). But was the last cup final between the two teams midly interesting? When it matters, I would guess that it probably is the biggest rivalry in british hockey. Just since other teams(well coventry then) started winning things it maybe has lost its edge?

"Biggest rivalry in the sport"?? - PR fluff, but I can live with that one... because you can assume that they're talking about the sport in the UK. Is it the biggest? (in the UK, that is) - quite possibly... in terms of fan numbers, certainly.
I'm glad they've dropped the "biggest rivalry in Europe" dreck... now THAT was one that I did object to, because it was so obviously a load of cobblers.
Teams are naturally going to 'talk up' games and rivalries... that's what this is. At least now they're not going OTT with the aforementioned Europe thing. I personally don't regard the Steelers as our "biggest rivals", nor do I think that fxtures against them are "the best games of the season". But hey, that's personal preference...

this is soooo boring, every time we play each other!! whatever you say there will be still a huge loud crowd of people getting more pasionate about the game than any other league game. so id it dead? only according to the forums as the 6000 packing arena seem to think it is still pretty hot!!

It's not dead nath, just old hat.
I suspect that those 6000 odd fans would turn up without a single word of hype, even though the actual games are a shadow of those of past seasons.

I keep asking this question everytime people knock the Steelers v Panthers rivalry.
Since you moved to the NIC, how many games that didn't involve the Steelers have attracted a gate of over 5,000?
Steelers v Panthers games regularly get over 6,000, so although this fixture may get boring to those who attend week in and week out (more than likely the type of people who post on this forum), for the casual observer it's the game they want to watch.
Financially both clubs benefit from these games, because an extra 1,500 supporters makes a big difference to both our clubs budgets.
Regards
Doom

I for one would still like us entered in the German league, bring some decent hockey to these shores. That would be the death of your club: No rivalries. Competing with teams financially much stronger. I can't imagine it would take too long before the good folk of Nottingham start to lose interest. The bottom line is the Panthers need the Steelers, just like they need Cardiff, Coventry, Manchester etc. I really don't understand this obsession that a few have with Europe.....It's where we go for holidays, not to play our bread and butter hockey. Regards Doom But you miss a obvious point what milkman was making Its BETTER HOCKEY in europe, and we, the panthers would jump at a euro leagur, Mr Black has made that clear too . i would say the league need the panthers (full the revenue we bring in) more than they need us Take the panthers out of the league , and the league would struggle to carry on
