Just back in from the game.
We played well but didn't have to play very well to beat what was in front of us with Phoenix missing their main scorer, Tallari, and McMillan on D. Fortunately we were able to get the puck past Fankhouser a lot more easily than previously.
Bergin as MOM - well he didn't play badly but I reckon someone said 29 was our MOM and they heard it as 25.

Some refs don't play the clock, it may seem pointless but I think thats the way it should be done. Well personally I think it's a bit of a cop-out on the part of the ref. If he deems it worth a 2+10 minute major when the game has only a few seconds left, he should make sure that the perpetrator suffers the consequences of his deliberate foul play by handing out something meaningful. As it stands Basiuk could have broken someones arm and effectively picked up and 18 second penalty. Just back from the game... It wasn't originally a 2+10... just a standard 2min penalty. Then he yapped at Boniface, and you know what happens then! ;D (they should have known by then - the other 10min penalty taken earlier by the Phoenix was also for yapping at the ref). Overall - decent road win. The passing was a little shaky in the first period (more sort of 'hit it forwards and hope' than anything else) but they settled down and got to work. Bergon as MoM?.... hmmmm, yeah - I can go with that. He had a pretty solid game - missed one beautiful feed right in front of the net that had "goal" written all over it, but apart from that did good work all game.

just back from the game also. As has been said, we played quite well but i did think manchester missed the players they had out. Bergin- yeh i think he deserved mom. He played quite well and put in a lot of effort..if it wasn't him, it would have to have been Pelts who took his goals very well and worked very hard again. whoever it was that mentioned the tripping penalties by the Phoenix player and Levers, it was because Levers tripped somebody, Boniface put his hand up for the delayed penalty, but before he managed to blow his whistle he caught the manchester player tripping someone also. So by the time he got to blow his whistle, he had to call both penalties!! (does that make sense?!) Well done tonight lads.

Just back from the game Travelling back through snake pass in the snow and fog was a experience lol This was my first visit and most likely will be my last Garbage place, poor viewing , absolute freezin inside, all this for the price of 15 english sterlings, someones having a laugh here Anyway onto the game, a much improved performance, we had good tempo throughout Pelts and a couple of good shots from the blue line on the 2nd their goalie must have been screened as it went straight in. Neilson was immence again Macca, wally, Molin all had good games as did Myers and the brits Bring on Newcastle now in the semi !!!

This was my first visit and most likely will be my last Garbage place, poor viewing , absolute freezin inside, all this for the price of 15 english sterlings, someones having a laugh here Think you're being a tad unfair there, Pidge. The sightlines are bad at Manchester, but - despite them being the same design and built by the same company - I swear that the sightlines are worse at Cardiff. Freezing? Nah... it's not cold until you can see your breath! ;D Basingstoke and Murrayfield are colder... (and you want to try some of the Lions away trips... Blackburn, Bradford and - so I'm told - Whitley all make Manchester look like a sauna! ) Re the £15 tickets... yeah, that's too much - it's not value for money. Thing is - it's not anyone having a laugh, they're having to charge that just to survive. We all know how close the Phoenix came to vanishing completely... all the problems they had just surviving while their rink was delayed and delayed again. It's not right, but there's nothing they can do. I don't like paying out £15 for that bad a view either, but I'd like to lose the Phoenix from the league even less... that's why I'm going to all 3 of our away games there this season - every little bit helps.

Manchester definately missed Tallari tonight, he really is their talisman offensively. Losing Enafatti to a 10 minute misconduct also hurt them badly as they were down to 3 D for a time, perhaps the decision to release the versatile KC Timmons will haunt them there.
On to Panthers, a solid if not spectacular display, but we did the little things right for much of the night, put pucks on net, got men in front of Scott Fankhouser and got our rewards. He didn't see either Neilson's first or Pelletier's second as it came through a crowd of bodies and the Wallenberg goal was also a result of putting guys around the crease, Wally on hand to roof the loose puck.
I thought the officiating was dreadful at times, another poor display from Mr Boniface.
As for Manchester's rink, we know it's not the best but just to have ice hockey in Manchester is a result and a testament to the hard work of a group of people who care passionately about the game, reading the comments from Andy Costigan tonight in the programme, they need the support so please don't be so negative.

Fair point shaggy , so if they are that hard up why not wait til they are a bit more solvent , before setting up a franchise in this league and when they are ready, employ a company who at least think about a layout/design of a rink , Basingstoke isn t that cold Dave

Bergin as MOM - well he didn't play badly but I reckon someone said 29 was our MOM and they heard it as 25. No, it was definitely 25. Whilst Pelts scored twice, Bergin worked hard all night, and was on the PK team that kept Phoenix out on all but one of their PPs. Should have had at least one goal to add to his assist though. Other candidates were Corey, who had his usual solid performance, and Mark Richardson, who is beginning to look a class act. I know Phoenix were short, but you can only beat what is in front of you, and Panthers did that very efficiently - and remember we were our "star" import missing. Rasto worries me. A couple of smart stops early on, but at fault on both Phoenix goals imho. Neither nettie had a night to remember, nor did the officials: the number of offside calls the linesmen got wrong was staggering, and some of Nigel's calls were poor, but not to the extent that Phoenix could complain about. If you yap at Nigel, a 10 minute misconduct will follow. Bring on the Vipers!

Credit where credit is do. Panthers did well to win, any away victory is a good victory. If Bergin got man of the match then hopefully he is starting to make headway. Which is good news for everyone.
