www.belfastgiants.com/newsarticleid=55.aspx5 players out injured? Welcome to our world... have the Panthers ever had a season without several players being out injured all at once? Because I'm damned if I can remember one...

Because I'm damned if I can remember one... we have had several seasons with players out injured but these all sound like being major injuries which could spark the signing of replacements ( Tessier)

Perhaps the only surprising thing is that Kelman isn't blaming the Panthers for being Moran's team when he he first sustained a shoulder injury - YET!!! ;D

Using that last one up at this early stage of the season would be a huge gamble. Hadn't thought it was that tight for them... means that the 'Tessier to Belfast' rumour is getting less and less likely.

Saving some clubs from themselves it could be said which in its own way is quite sensible imo

Saving some clubs from themselves it could be said which in its own way is quite sensible imo I appreciate the need to control spending. I just think the ITC limit is too low. I don't think a team that is hit hard by injuries should have to suffer and possibly see out the season low on imports just because of some arbitrary limit on ITC cards. Especially if said team (or their sponsors) can afford the flights. I also think that the ITC limit could lead to players getting in a comfort zone too easily. Take Belfast for example, if they only have 1 ITC slot left all their imports now know that their jobs are a lot safer than players in other teams. Now I'm personally not convinced that threatening people with P45s is the best way to motivate them (if my boss threatened me with a P45 he'd probably have my written notice by the end of the week!) but it is one way and it seems to work with some players. Also, certain teams (no fingers pointed ) seem to attract their fans based on the team's form. If they had to play an import or two down for the rest of the season they'd lose ticket sales totaling a damn site more than the paperwork fees + a £30 flight from Czechoslovakia!

Im with you to be honest i think its to low from a hockey stand point, i dont see sporting wise the need for a limit. Personally i think a few teams in the league resent the ITC system and want to stick the IIHf on this one by not paying the fees. I think Rick Strang has alluded to the ITC's being seen by clubs as unnessecery and that a breakaway from them could be on the cards possibly. Maybe this is a way of going that route who knows, i cant see it changing any time soon though.

The only way I can see that happening is if we become a fully fledged affiliate of the NHL (Or any other Big non ITC league, how many and who they are I don't know). The EIHL won't make any progress if it went on alone. Plus breaking away fully from the IIHF and not joining up with a "big Kid" (ala NHL) will have a big knock on effect for team GB. the IIHF are slowly bringing in the 2 ref system for International tournaments, who knows what other rules that may pass us by in the back waters of hockey.
