Sorry if this has been on previously but does anybody know why there was no National Anthem played in the match against Sheffield on Wednesday? Was it anything to do with televising the event?

In my eyes it was silly. Why should we not have the national anthem. They could and would have edited it out. Maybe it was a time thing. Still dont think it was correct not to play it. Rant over for now. Roy

maybe silly but if sky dont want it, i can understand why they would agree,
sky are giving the sport something everyones been asking for, and from the first show did a really good job of it aswell
it is part of the build up to a game but sky are the pro's and maybe something that might be changed over time to make it more popular on the TV screens

to be fair though.... if we are changing the sprt itself just to suit sky... should we be encouraging it?
Id rather have the national anthem and clean blood up straight away than skip them becuase sky have a tight schedule... they can always edit it

Its hardly changing the game is it
Belfast never used to play the NA, not sure if they still do.
Unfortunately too many lily livered liberals and we cant go upsetting the minorities can we.

As previously said, Sky could easily edit it out so I see no reason for it.
Of course the more pertinent question would be why bother playing it in the first place? It's an American idea and there's no reason for us to copy them.
Anthems belong before internationals.

Sky rarely have anthems for non-national events. This used to happen when we were last on Sky.
I do agree though, editing it out would be a better option. That is certainly what they used to do.

Thats because the majority of Hockey fans are insular to their sport They dont want the high profile that SKY could bring, they like the exclusivity of the sport. I'll use the word majority liberally like yourself. To summarise the majority of hockey fans, in particular Panther fans do not like change. Im surprised coming from a multi cultural hot spot like Nottingham you can get away with playing the Anthem, or is that all part of the club.

Playing the anthem before the game is part of hockey though and personally I like to hear it played. I think it's great that Sky are covering the sport once again but I can't understand why things like the national anthem isn't played, blood isn't cleared off the ice and a sky technician tells the referee when to drop the puck, especially when the game isn't going out live.

I asked about that Jonoand can shed a little light. Prior to face off the cameras all pick up a set 'target' round back the team look at these targetsand decide if they are happy. If not, another target is selected and looked at; once the producer is happy he has all the best shots covered, he lets the game go able to move from shot to shot already knowing he has every angle he needs wherever the re-start goes. The blood I don't know, this too could have been edited out IMO after they had cleared it. I would say though that the players seemed to have been informed this is what would happen as none made a fuss. I thought the coverage was decent and should get better. That's if PI don't get their way and bring the deal down as they are trying to do by banning filming in all their rinks + the PI in disguise rinks like Manchester. This is the reason you are on again instead of the advertised Manc game. Why oh why do petty agendas always have to try to pull this sport apart? This is the biggest step forward publicity wise in recent years and from the off PI are trying to stop it? What on earth is their problem?

I think your right in saying people dont want changes. Id like the sport to be high profile but then there you get the problems that come with that i.e. tv deals mucking up games like sheff, PI having this agenda that creates a split between the league and the fans.

The only people who think that the anthem could cause offence to 'minorities' are extreme left and right nutjobs. It sounds like sky have asked TeleVideo to film this in real-time so it can be 'as realistic to a live event' as possible. Not unusual for tv companies to request that even for events they are showing on a tape delay. It may not be the case on Sunday where there is a long delay between the taping of the 'show' and its broadcast.

As a republican not having to listen to song about the Queen doesn't worry me too much. However, surely blood on the ice poses a health risk (however small), surely it should have been dealt with?

I'm not for the anthem myself either but won't be rude against it at a game. No one should think rude of me either if I stayed sat through it but I do stand if not to stretch the legs and view the players etc....I think worst things have been changed in the game rather than this. Like what seems like changing the Cup competitions each second season.
