Thought I'd post these on here (as I used to do) to let people know how the non-Panthers teams are doing... Saturday 1st SeptemberNottingham U10s Pumas 49 - 0 Sutton U10s Sunday 2nd SeptemberWhitley U18s1 2 - 7 Nottingham U18s1 Leopards ;D Nottingham U18s2 Jaguars 10 - 2 Solihull U18s ;D Nottingham U14s2 Ice Cats 0 - 7 Sheffield U14s2 I swear that U10s score is the biggest margin I remember seeing for a junior game - or any other type of game for that matter! And this coming weekend, the Pride are on the prowl... the Nottingham Lions hit the ice (and the opposition, the back of the net, etc... ), so there's plenty more to come...

I was in JJB at Mansfield today and a young lad noticed the Panthers logo on my shirt. I got chatting to his mum and found out that the boy plays for Sutton Sting U-12s.
Apparently this was Sutton Sting U-10s first ever league game, they have only been together a few months and you have to start somewhere. I was told that the nettie is only 6 years old, he loves playing in goal and actually saved 53 of the 102 shots. Ok not a great save %age but it must mean a hell of lot to the little guy, he can't wait for the next game. Sutton have a long way to go before they can challenge but it is another junior team that needs some support and more importantly it is somewhere for the kids to play hockey.

I'm sure the challenge for these kids will be to improve on that scoreline game by game. If they can keep Nottingham down to less than 40 the next time they play, that would be progress.....then less than 30 etc etc. You've got to start somewhere, but if these kids love the game and work hard at it, the results will improve given time. I know some people object to these kind of mis-matches, but I disagree, it let's the kids know where they stand and gives them something to aim at. Regards Doom

I say we "adopt" (somehow, however small) the Sutton Sting U10s and give them all the encouragement we can. If the rest of the team has an attituide like the above, just imagine the celebrations when the first goal goes in... I'm filling up.....

Having been involved with sutton sting junior ice hockey club for a short while, can i thank those that have been positive about the result. It was a fantastic day for the kids none of whom have had to pass skate uk grades or hockey skill assessments before joining us. If they want to play, we'll let them.
With the EIHA 'suggesting' that 3rd line players ( at under 10) should be younger and novice players, i think we followed that.
An ethos of 'sport for all' and 'let the kids play hockey' will allow more than just the elite kids to play this sport.
When people talk of 'young brits' in hockey - where do they think they begin?

how many minutes do the U10s play? Would be interesting to know how many shots Sutton had. Still, as has already been said, you have to start somewhere so highest respect to the guys for carrying on! Now bring on 49 goals on Saturday and I'll be a happy panther

Apologies for missing the update last week... a little bit of a problem with those <expletive deleted> at Virgin Media and my broadband... So to catch up.... it was a damned good weekend for Nottingham ice hockey! Saturday 8th SeptemberManchester ENL Phoenix 5 - 9 Nottingham Lions ;D ;D ;D Sunday 9th SeptemberNottingham Lions 4 - 3 Blackburn Hawks ;D ;D ;D Nottingham U16s2 Lynx 4 - 2 Bradford U16s ;D Whitley U14s 0 - 6 Nottingham U14s1 Tigers ;D ;D Kingston U12s 1 - 13 Nottingham U12s Tiger Cubs ;D ;D A clean sheet - including a 13-goal, 4-point weekend for the Lions! Especially sweet, seeing as the Blackburn Hawks are undoubtedly contenders for the ENL North league title... And then we come to this last weekend... although we seem to be missing the result for the U12s home game on Saturday - anyone know it? Saturday 15th SeptemberFlintshire U14s 11 - 6 Nottingham U14s2 Ice Cats Kingston U10s 1 - 12 Nottingham U10s Pumas ;D ;D Sunday 16th SeptemberFlintshire Freeze 0 - 5 Nottingham Lions ;D ;D ;D Newcastle U16s 0 - 8 Nottingham U16s1 Cougars ;D ;D Nottingham U14s1 Tigers 19 - 1 Manchester U14s ;D ;D Newcastle U12s 1 - 16 Nottingham U12s Tiger Cubs ;D ;D Nottingham Vipers 8 - 3 Flintshire ladies ;D And another cracking weekend, nearly as good as the previous one... with the Lions getting an away shut-out, the Vipers starting off their season the way they mean to go on, and high-scoreline wins for several of the junior teams. More of the same, please!

I know it's early days yet, but I make that - from 16 games - a very nice total of 14 wins and two losses... including no less than 4 shut-out wins for the Nottingham Ice Hockey Club. The future's bright... the future's Nottingham!

And then we come to this last weekend... although we seem to be missing the result for the U12s home game on Saturday - anyone know it? Apologies, ladies and germs... a poorly PC prevented me from posting this one. Saturday 15th SeptemberNottingham U12s Tiger Cubs 16 - 3 Billingham U12s ;D ;D ;D Another good win, and stilla clean sheet for the Tiger Cubs... 3 wins from 3, can't argue with that. Must check out the U10s game against Sheffield this afternoon... I think that's on just before the Panthers game. Can't beat watching the pee-wees...

Are the pee-wee games usually on just before panthers games? would be good fun watching them i reckon. not quite the same thing, but was cool to see u10s just before the playoff finals game.

It's that time again.... Unfortunately, not as good a weekend for the NIHC as previous, but still (slightly) in the positive. Saturday 22nd September:-Nottingham U10s Pumas 6 - 9 Sheffield U10s Sunday 23rd September:-Blackburn Hawks 3 - 4 Nottingham Lions ;D ;D Nottingham U18s-1 Leopards 2 - 3 Sheffield U18s-1 Nottingham U16s-1 Cougars 6 - 0 Whitley U16s ;D ;D Solihull U16s 0 - 5 Nottingham U16s-2 Lynx ;D ;D Whitley U12s 7 - 7 Nottingham U12s Tiger CubsSo - two more shut-outs for the juniors (both U16s teams) and a second 4-3 win over the Blackburn Hawks for the Nottingham Lions. A couple of losses, but still doing well overall... And no junior games at all this coming weekend! Just the Lions (at home, hosting Whitley - 7:15pm on Sunday) - the only Nottingham home game at all this weekend!

The little bit of the U10s game I saw was terrific. Real end-to-end stuff and hard work from the lads and lasses.

The little bit of the U10s game I saw was terrific. Real end-to-end stuff and hard work from the lads and lasses. Agreed. I was standing next to Mike Urquhart part of the time (NIHC & Lions Head Coach) and commented to him that the skating from the U10s (on both teams) seemed to be a lot stronger than I remember from previous years. He agreed and seemed very impressed with the quality of the youngsters. This is good. Perhaps an indication that - at grass roots level, where it really needs to be - a start is being made in improving our sport? Watching the juniors isn't just entertaining... it's starting to become an education. More power to them, sayeth I.

Guess who completely forgot to keep up with posting this stuff? However - I think a HUGE round of applause is due to the Nottingham Ice Hockey Club as a whole, seeing as the teams (juniors, Vipers and Lions) have collectively played 11 games over the past 2 weekends... and won the lot! Including 6 shut-outs... Now that's impressive! Combined with 3 wins on the trot for the Panthers over the same period... it's good stuff. Saturday 17th NovemberENL Newcastle Vipers 5 - 6 Nottingham Lions ;D Sheffield U18s-2 3 - 5 Nottingham U18s-2 Jaguars ;D Nottingham U14s-2 Ice Cats 8 - 0 Sutton U14s ;D Billingham U10s 0 - 5 Nottingham U10s Pumas ;D Sunday 18th NovemberNottingham U18s-1 Leopards 5 - 0 Flintshire U18s ;D Nottingham U16s-1 Cougars 19 - 0 Flintshire U16s ;D Saturday 24th NovemberNottingham U14s-1 Tigers 8 - 2 Telford U14s ;D Sunday 25th NovemberNottingham Lions 5 - 2 ENL Newcastle Vipers ;D Blackburn U18s 0 - 18 Nottingham U18s-1 Leopards ;D Nottingham U16s-2 Lynx 1 - 0 Coventry U16s ;D Telford ladies team 3 - 7 Nottingham Vipers ;D Now how's that for a set of results? Special mention should, I think, go to the U16s-1 Cougars, the U16s-2 Lynx, the U14s-1 Tigers and the Nottingham Vipers... all who are still on maximum points - wins all the way!

Apart from the U18s-2 Jaguars, who unfortunately got hammered 10-0 by the Manchester U18s (although we need to remember... that's their best U18s against our second team!) it was another weekend of success for Nottingham hockey. 5 wins out of 6... including a thrilling come-from-behind victory for the Lions. (Two Panthers wins at the weekend and then another on Wednesday only makes it even better, of course! Only the Cougars and Vipers played last weekend... but they both won, so all of these winning streaks still stand... ;D
